Styling a Top for Work and Play + Crazy Comfy Pants and Cute Frayed Hem Jeans

I know that many of you need business casual outfits while many others of you only need casual outfits, so today I’m excited to bring you both in this “Work and Play” post!  It’s got something for everyone!
I scarcely need to dress business casual anymore, but when I did, I always loved having clothes that weren’t limited to only business casual attire.  Today I’m partnering with ModCloth to talk about how to find and style pieces for both work and play!
The maroon striped top I’m featuring today inspired the whole post.  It is somewhat of a standard classic striped button up, but it has some details that make it cuter than your average button up and make it a better fit for wearing casually.  One thing ModCloth does so well is takes standard pieces and elevates them with really cute details!  This top’s cute puffed shoulders add a feminine touch, and the material itself is flowy rather than stiff.  That helps it feel more relaxed and makes it easier to dress down.  I think this top is adorable, and given that maroon is one of my favorite colors for fall, this color makes me extra happy!
The top is sheer, so you will need some sort of camisole or shirt underneath.  I’m wearing a nude camisole in both of these outfits.
SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and typically 6/8 or S/M and wear this shirt in M.  I’m size 8.5 to 9 in shoes.

For the work look, I went with maroon, maroon, and more maroon–and a pop of yellow!  You could pair it with a neutral completer piece, like a grey or navy blazer, but you know me, I love kicking up an outfit with a pop of color!
These ponte pants are from ModCloth, and they are SO COMFY and SO STRETCHY and seriously might as well be yoga pants except they have a zipper.  If you’re in need of some ponte pants for work, you’ve gotta check these out!  They also come in black and a slate grey HERE.  I wear size M.
This mustard yellow cardigan is a ModCloth staple that comes in a billion colors and a has been a staple in my closet for years.  (I have it in 5 colors!)  It’s super duper soft and comfortable!  I love that it comes in so many colors and how much fun they can add to your outfits!  I wear them in M and you can see all the colors HERE.  Highly recommend filling your business casual wardrobe with these.  (There is also a cropped version HERE which are great for creating more defined silhouettes with dresses and skirts.)

For the casual look, instead of dressing the top down with a regular dark wash skinny jean, I paired it with distressed jeans with a frayed hem.  I feel like the distressing adds an extra bit of casualness to the outfit.  Plus, these jeans were just TOO CUTE to pass up!

I’ve been slow on the frayed hem trend, but this is such a good pair and I’m glad I gave them a shot!  I was surprised by how well they fit, especially for jeans that are numbered in junior’s sizing (odd numbers).  Those usually don’t work well on my hips, but these fit great.  They are also thick, stretchy, and soft!  My friend thought they were so cute that she got a pair after seeing them on me!  ðŸ˜€  Check them out HERE.
