Mix and Match: Striped Skirt and Graphic Tee

For this week’s Mix and Match feature I was inspired by this striped skirt from Target.  Beautiful, bold stripes, but less than $20!  WHAT!

Outfit 1
I paired this skirt with a pretty yellow chiffon top, intending to tuck it in and blouse it out a bit at the waist.  I love blue and yellow together, but since I know a lot of people who think they can’t wear yellow I was playing around with some green top options too.  Something like this one.

(BTW, I used to think I couldn’t wear yellow because of my skin tone too, but it turns out there are many shades of yellow, and I was surprised when I found some that I actually liked on me!)

I know some people who get really anxious about whether or not the whites/lights in your outfit match exactly, but I personally don’t make a huge deal about it unless it looks really strange.  It’s way too stressful otherwise!  ðŸ™‚

This could be worn to an office paired with the blazer and sensible shoes as shown.  Or wear it sans blazer plus shiny bangles and a smaller bag for a night out.  And go for some sleeker shoes like these if you want!

Outfit 2
I wanted to make a more laid back outfit with the skirt, but I couldn’t decide on how simple or laid back to make it.  My first inclination with a patterned skirt is always to go for a plain tee on top, but since some of you have written to me over the years asking what else to pair with a patterned skirt besides a plain tee, I wanted to provide a different option.  Try a graphic tee!  Yes, with a patterned skirt!

This umbrella tee is more interesting than a plain white tee.  And whereas I’d normally pair a graphic tee with jeans or shorts, pairing one with a pencil skirt creates a cool mix of being laid back and a little dressed up at the same time.  If you can wear fedoras, rock one with this outfit to complete the look!

Outfit 3

Here’s a casual summer outfit with the umbrella tee.  Instead of pairing it with standard blue jeans I opted for coral shorts to give the outfit more pop.  Since I recently got on board the white sneaker train I couldn’t pass on a chance to put them in.  You can go for the infamous Converse All Stars, but I also found this great pair from H&M that doesn’t have the red stripe.  If it cools down at night in your area, opt for a cargo jacket as a light layer.  Hat and sunglasses are optional, of course!
