Outfit 1
I paired this skirt with a pretty yellow chiffon top, intending to tuck it in and blouse it out a bit at the waist. I love blue and yellow together, but since I know a lot of people who think they can’t wear yellow I was playing around with some green top options too. Something like this one.
(BTW, I used to think I couldn’t wear yellow because of my skin tone too, but it turns out there are many shades of yellow, and I was surprised when I found some that I actually liked on me!)
I know some people who get really anxious about whether or not the whites/lights in your outfit match exactly, but I personally don’t make a huge deal about it unless it looks really strange. It’s way too stressful otherwise! 🙂
This could be worn to an office paired with the blazer and sensible shoes as shown. Or wear it sans blazer plus shiny bangles and a smaller bag for a night out. And go for some sleeker shoes like these if you want!

Outfit 2
I wanted to make a more laid back outfit with the skirt, but I couldn’t decide on how simple or laid back to make it. My first inclination with a patterned skirt is always to go for a plain tee on top, but since some of you have written to me over the years asking what else to pair with a patterned skirt besides a plain tee, I wanted to provide a different option. Try a graphic tee! Yes, with a patterned skirt!
This umbrella tee is more interesting than a plain white tee. And whereas I’d normally pair a graphic tee with jeans or shorts, pairing one with a pencil skirt creates a cool mix of being laid back and a little dressed up at the same time. If you can wear fedoras, rock one with this outfit to complete the look!
