It’s crazy to think that school starts for my oldest daughter in a week and a half! This start date is several weeks earlier than what it was where we used to live, and I’m still getting used to it. But I can now understand why so many of you ask for back-to-school help in July, especially teachers and anyone else who is getting ready to return to a regular work schedule once kids are back in school. So, if you’re in the back-to-school mode, I’m sharing some awesome and affordable finds to help you out! I’m partnering with Nordstrom Rack and ShopStyle Collective to share back-to-school clothes for teachers and for moms.
Nordstrom Rack is SUCH an awesome place to shop because they have clothes from the great brands that I tell you about all the time, but for way less. As I was sifting through all the pieces they currently have, I couldn’t resist popping 5 things in my cart—they were too good!
I’ll share some pieces I found for workwear and for casualwear and talk through some styling ideas with them!
The ruffle tank blouse works well under blazers and cardigans and can be paired with pants or tucked easily into skirts. Very, very versatile! It comes in several pretty prints and solid colors; it’s honestly hard to choose!
The ponte pencil skirt should be fairly comfortable and is under $18!
The eyelet cap sleeve top is really pretty and adds a nice detail to outfits, and it’s only $21.99! It comes in several colors and would work well with any of the pants here as well as jeans.
The short puff sleeve blouse at the bottom left is a great elevated basic with sleeves that are elegant but not overly dressy, so you look professional but not stuffy. You can dress it up with slacks or wear it with jeans.
The ribbed balloon sleeve sweaters and the drapey oversized mock neck sweaters in the second row are under $30, and the shorter mock neck sweaters in the last row are only $19.97! All of them can be worn with any of the pants here for work or paired with jeans for casual outfits. I love that they offer alternative silhouettes to keep outfits interesting without being over the top. All of them come in several colorways.
The crop kick flare jeans are by Democracy, which is a very similar brand to our PMT favorite brand, Wit & Wisdom, with stretchy legs and a stretchy elastic waistband. These pants have a modern silhouette and come in a few colors. They would pair really well with the shorter mock neck sweater, the eyelet cap sleeve top, the short puff sleeve blouse, and the ruffle tank blouse.
Shorter button-up cardigans like THIS one and THIS one are very current and are great with any of the pants shown here but can also be worn with jeans.
The straight leg colored jeans are by Wit & Wisdom, so you know they’re going to be comfortable with stretch and a stretchy elastic waistband. But they’re only $44.97!! They are technically jeans but would be easy to wear in more relaxed work environments. They come in several neutral colors.
The plaid pants are ponte and add some fun to your workwear! They come in two colors, but the color I’m showing would work well with the short puff sleeve blouse, shorter mock neck sweater, and the ruffle tank blouse in some of the neutral colors.

Shop Back-to-School Clothes for Teachers:
Now for that mom life! Here are some great options for looking stylish but still comfy and casual for drop-offs and pick-ups, as well as some pieces you can wear to meet with teachers or other parents. You might notice that a lot of these are repeats from the workwear highlights and that’s because these pieces are versatile and can be worn in both settings as well. Below are notes about some of the pieces we haven’t mentioned yet.
Any of the sweatshirts in the top row would be great with both jeans or leggings. I own the zip-front shearling jacket (in Rust Cherry) and wore it so much last fall! It’s cozy but lightweight and moves well with you. I wear that in size S, and it comes in 7 colors, HERE.
The brushed knit oversized hoodie has GREAT reviews and looks like it would work well with leggings.
As for jeans, Nordstrom Rack carries some fantastic brands of denim! The distressed straight leg jeans are Madewell, but much more affordable! There are also Liverpool Los Angeles jeans, like the black pair above, which are very stretchy and great quality, but you can get them for 65% off, HERE! The girlfriend jeans are another pair by Democracy that are likely to be stretchy and comfy! Nordstrom Rack has so many good brands for a fraction of the price!
And BTW, how cute would either of the button cardigans or the short mock neck sweater look with the Madewell straight leg jeans? VERY cute!
