Affordable Coats Worth Checking Out + Outfits for Casual Holiday Activities

Though the holiday season is one of the colder parts of the year, my family and I are outdoors a ton!  We love walking around to see Christmas lights, spending evenings at the nighttime zoo for shows and more lights, and going to things like Christmas at the Park.  It’s so fun to be outside for all the festivities, but it can be chilly!  Fortunately for us, “cold” here is pretty mild ?, but in case you’re not so lucky, today’s post is for you!  I’m partnering with JCPenney to share some GREAT but affordable coats to keep you warm this holiday season.  Let’s get straight to them!

SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes, 8.5 to 9 in shoes.

Puffer Raincoat
First up is this water resistant puffer jacket.  I tried three puffer jackets, and while the other two also felt really good, this was the warmest and most heavyweight.  But, it’s comfy to wear.  And despite its puffiness, it’s got a REALLY flattering cut!  Seriously.  So so so flattering!  Not to mention this color is gorgeous!  It comes in other colors like black, olive, navy, and pink, but I love the life that this color adds while still being sophisticated and versatile.

Other great features on this coat are a drawstring waist that offers a more flattering fit, fleece lined pockets, slanted pockets so that you can comfortably put your hands in them, a lined detachable hood, and the fact that it’s water resistant!  This is SUCH a great coat!  It’s originally $200, but right now it’s ON SALE for only $70!  Get it HERE.

I paired it with jeans and this green sweater for an outfit I’d wear to look at Christmas lights with my family, to the nighttime zoo to look at lights, or to a Christmas in the park kind of event.

This sweater has been on repeat for the last couple of weeks!  It’s a gorgeous green that is richer in person than in these pics.  (Pretty true color to the website HERE.)  It’s a lighter weight and comfy to wear.  This color is almost sold out, but it also comes in a gorgeous berry, off-white grayish version, and black.  See them all HERE.

I also tried THIS coat which was good but not as warm, not as flattering of a fit, didn’t have lined pockets, a drawstring waist or a hood that was detachable.  It made me realize how amazing the one above is!  Size S fit me best.

I also tried THIS shorter coat that has some good features.  It wasn’t microfiber like the one above, but it had a fleece lined removable hood, fleece lined pockets, and elastic around the sleeves to keep cold air from getting up your sleeves.  It’s a bit lighter weight so the one above is still warmer.  Size S fit me best, but it has a *slightly* tighter fit than the two above.

Water Resistant Trench oat
Another great coat I found is this classic raincoat.  A lot of times I feel like trench coats have too much material and don’t look good when they’re open or aren’t flattering around my hips.  I was shocked that this one fit perfectly!  It’s got a removable hood, single-button closure on the pockets, and looks flattering closed and open.  It comes in khaki, black, and olive and is currently ON SALE!  See it HERE.  Wearing size S.

I paired it again with the same green sweater, but went with black jeans and black boots this time.  This is an outfit you can wear to a Christmas concert, dinner with friends, or a casual Christmas Eve service.

I talked about these black jeans recently HERE, but the longer I have them, the more I love them.  The legs are really, really stretchy, but did not sag or stretch out after a full day of wearing them!  I sized way down to a size 4 though.  I think I would have felt they were saggy if I had gone with size 6.  The ankle is very skinny, which is great with booties and boots.  Can’t speak to fading yet since these are still pretty new in my closet, but so far I’m loving them!  Plus, they are only $18.74!  WHAAAAAT?  Yes!  Find them HERE!
