Taking a Summer Outfit Into Fall

Top: Forever 21 (similar)  |  Shorts: Loft  |  Jeans: Target  |  Cardigan: H&M (similar)  |  Sandals: Target   (shop, similar)  |  Boots: Dolce Vita via Macy’s (shop similar: one, two, three, four)  |  Necklace: Nordstrom
Today I’m showing you two looks!  I wore the top outfit on Tuesday, which is another result of my summer outfit formula.  Even though it’s pretty standard and you guys are probably sick of me wearing yellow, I got compliments all day.  If you’ve been reading for a while you might recall that I haven’t told most of my friends about this blog (and now some of you newer readers are shocked to hear that for the first time! haha).  Anyway, since my real life friends don’t really read my blog, they are still amazed with all of my yellow, statement necklaces, and tank top + shorts combos yet.  Muahaha.

But since it’s old news to you guys and since I’ve finally let myself think about fall, I did a fall version of this top and necklace.  I just switched out the grey shorts for grey jeans, added some boots since boots instantly make an outfit look “fall,” and threw on a cardigan.  And that’s the new formula for you to change any shorts and tshirts looks into an outfit for cooler weather.

I'm curious–is it easier to write the blog knowing that your friends won't read your posts?

Also, while we're chatting, it's high time I mentioned how awesome I think you are. 🙂 Your posts are consistently helpful and engaging. I love your style, but more importantly, I love how you've figured out what works for you. You must put a lot of time and effort into your "how-to" posts especially, and they've been super useful to me. Thank you!

Super cute!! This week has been on a major Indian Summer kick, so I got to utilize my summer stuff one last time. Today I think begins the real Fall weather so I'll have to work on combining the two wardrobes. Glad for the inspiration! p.s. I really want to start a fashion blog again (obviously the first one broke it's leg and quit lol) but I think I would start it and not tell anyone I knew either. 🙂

I really love your blog!!! I also have the problem that I am always wearing the same outfit – Jeans and T-shirt – even though I have a closet full of clothes.

I have a kind of general question though: It seems like most of your outfits work because you wear shoes without socks. I am totally opposite: I feel like I need to wear socks to not get blisters, and also, to not sweat in shoes. So how do you wear shoes without socks without killing your feet with blisters and not sweating in them which would make the blister problem worse? Trust me, I have tried and failed numerous times and that is one of the main reasons I go back to shoes with socks and long pants to cover up the socks that I am wearing. Totally boring, I know.
Lately, I discovered the short socks in popping colors which makes it a tiny bit better, but fashion-wise with a skirt or something a total no-go. Any ideas?

I love making summer clothes last into another season! I honestly don't have money to have 4 separate wardrobes for each of the seasons, so I later a lot and make things work.

Love your fall outfit! 100% agree that you can easily transition summer clothes into fall/winter. Now if the weather will cool down just a bit so I can even wear jeans 🙂

I like your outfit, but this comment is more about your overall blog. Seeing this post makes me realize how much I like your blog! It is one of the few blogs that shows your outfit of the day but also gives ideas and tips on how to build your wardrobe. Everything is well written and clear – the "formulas" that you give are straightforward and easily done for most people. LOVE your blog! Thank you, Audrey!

I love you blog and style. So simply put together yet still stylish. Your writing is very concise and makes perfect sense. Trying not to sound cheesy, your blog is a God sent. I stumbled across your blog soon after our financial circumstances changed as a family. Money became tight and I longed for the days I has loads of cash to spend on clothes. Since reading your blog, I am having a lot of fun mixing and matching the items I already possessed and have hardly needed to go out and buy new stuff. Even my husband and sister have commented and on my outfits! The shopping mistakes your discussed a few days ago rings so true for me – in the past I bought 4 blazers all in the same style (different colours though!) and they only look good with jeans!
Please keep up the good work. I look forward eagerly to further posts.

Your blog is fantastic and has inspired me to try to rework my own wardrobe. I have the same dress from Target that you showed August 28th, the purple with hi-low hem. My question to you is I want to wear it on a Boston evening dinner cruise this weekend, How would you wear this dress for that occasion, or should I be looking at wearing something different? It's going to be cold out there! Thank you for all the effort you put into this blog 🙂

I totally dread having smelly feet too! That's why I usually stick to flip flops. But I turn out looking cheap. lol.

Anyways, I have read somewhere before that applying deodorants on feet can prevent blisters. Since sweat is what causes blisters, putting on some antiperspirants should help, it was so obvious I dont know why I never thought of it. lol. Use the spray kind if you dont want to make your feet all slippery. Hope this helps 🙂

Would it be ok if I shared the infographic image on my Facebook group page? I sell thrifted items, and right now I have a lot of summer stock left over. It might help my customers get some ideas for how to keep wearing some of their summer items. You can check out the page at http://www.Facebook.com/TheThriftedStudio.
