Packing List for a Spring Trip or Small Spring Capsule Wardrobe: Affordable Items + 20% Off!

Spring Getaway Packing List

Huge thanks to Kohl’s and ShopStyle Collective for sponsoring this post

I know you all love packing lists, so I’m excited to share with you today a packing list for a spring trip, and I’m doing it in partnership with Kohl’s and ShopStyle! If you’re not taking a trip anytime soon, no worries—this post works well for a small spring capsule wardrobe, too!

And, Kohl’s is running their Friends & Family Sale right now, and you can get 20% OFF the General Public Offer with code SHOP20 until 4/3!

I love the variety that Kohl’s offers, carrying really great basics and cute statement pieces so that you can create a great wardrobe and feel stylish for all of life’s activities. And friends, Kohl’s has some GEMS at a STEAL that I can’t wait to show you! Also, Kohl’s offers in-store and curbside pickup so that you can get your order quickly and conveniently.

SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes. I’ll share sizing info for any of the items I’ve tried.

Packing List for a Spring Trip

Let’s talk through the packing list! This list is full of items that are very affordable and have great reviews. I’ve also tried a few of these pieces firsthand, so I will share more detail about those. You can of course choose pieces with designs, prints, and colors that suit your style, and a lot of the items I’m showing today come in multiple colorways, so hopefully you can find something that works for you!

1-3 T-Shirts

These are easy to pair with jeans and shorts and can be layered under cardigans and jackets. I personally like to pack a mix of plain t-shirts and t-shirts with a print or graphic to keep outfits interesting.

The first tee in the collage has cute tulip sleeves to just give it a little something extra compared to a basic tee, and it comes in 8 colors and in sizes XS to XXL, HERE!

The middle tee has 900+ reviews and 4.4 stars! It has a great, classic silhouette and comes in 12 solid colors and 9 prints, HERE. And, it’s just $9.59 with code SHOP20!

The third tee is a great graphic print tee that has lots of good reviews as well! It’s just $11.99 and comes in a whopping 27 prints(!!), so check them out to see if any of them speak to you, HERE.

1-2 Nice Tops

Include a couple of nice tops if you want to dress up a little! I love both options above!

The first top with the peplum is really cute, and the material is that perfect balance of being nicer than a t-shirt but not as dressy as a blouse. I’ve tried this in person, and while it’s not cropped or anything, it’s on the shorter side. It works perfectly for me since I have a shorter torso. It would likely be fine for someone with an average length torso but would probably be too short if you have a long torso. There is elastic at the arms, but not around the waist at all. That said, the waistband is pretty loose on me. It comes in 6 colors, HERE! I fit size S best.

The pretty floral print top can be worn with jeans and heels (like the open toe heels in the collage), as well as dressed up for work with slacks. It has great reviews and comes in 11 solid colors and other prints, which you can see HERE!

Dress

If you’re headed to a nice dinner, add a dress to the mix! The one shown above comes in 4 prints and can be dressed down and paired with the white slip-on sneakers shown in the capsule or dressed up with the open toe heels. Check out all the prints HERE.

Another option is this smocked swing midi dress which is a bit more casual and really lightweight. Comes in 9 prints, HERE!

Completer Pieces / Layers

Of course, you’ve gotta add some layers! A cardigan is a helpful layer when it’s a little cooler, or when you just want something that’s softer and easier to move around in. This cardigan by Sonoma Goods is super affordable and comes in 10 colors! See them all HERE.

A denim jacket goes with nearly anything and makes outfits instantly cuter! This denim jacket by Croft & Barrow has really good reviews and is very, very affordable at just $27.99!

If you want an alternative layering piece, try a cute bomber jacket like THIS one! I love that it provides a cool, sporty, and slightly edgy vibe. It comes in 5 colors, HERE!

Sweatshirt

You all know I love a good sweatshirt, and I own this one by Sonoma Goods and can tell you it’s great for spring! It’s lighter weight, so it’s not super warm or toasty. Again, great for spring. It comes in 15 prints and is only $12.96 with the current sale!!! See them all HERE. I wear size S.

1-3 Pairs of Jeans

Add a few pairs of jeans, depending on how long your trip will be. I always try to have a pair of blue denim and at least another pair of jeans or bottoms in a different color. Black is an easy one that goes with a lot of other things!

Both pairs above are the same straight leg jeans by Sonoma Goods for Life. They are called “Super Soft” and have over 2,000 reviews and 4.4 stars! Any pair that says “super soft” has my attention, and given that I’ve tried two pairs of Sonoma Goods for Life’s denim shorts and can attest to them being soft and stretchy, I have high hopes for these jeans! And, they’re only $19.99 right now! They come in 10 washes and are available HERE. Definitely worth trying if you are in the market for straight leg jeans—especially ones that don’t have a raw hem!

Another pair of denim to check out is this pair of pull-on girlfriend jeans by Croft & Barrow. They have really great reviews, are also currently only $19.99, and come in 7 colors, HERE!

1-3 Pairs of Shorts

If you’ll need some shorts, I go by the same rule of thumb that I shared above regarding jeans: I always try to have a pair of blue denim shorts and then add shorts in other colors as needed.

This pair of blue denim shorts by Sonoma Good for Life is a REALLY GOOD BUY! I bought them to try them out, and they’re definitely keepers! They are very comfortable with a good amount of stretch, and they’re really affordable for stretchy, comfortable denim shorts. The inseam is 4.5″ by my measurements, and the leg opening is a little over 11″ when laid flat. These are just $19.99 and come in 9 colors, but note that some of them are a different style with utility style pockets. See them all HERE! I wear them in size 6.

These Bermuda shorts are another great option if you want something longer. I tried those too, and while the denim is pretty thin, they are also soft and stretchy. The leg opening is not sewn in, at least not on the black pair, so you have the option to roll it up. Note that the material underneath is a different color, so it will add contrast if you roll them up. One review said that the legs were baggy on them, but that was not the case for me as my fuller thighs filled in the shorts. As with all clothes, they work differently on different body types, so if you have thin limbs, this pair will have a bit more room around the legs for you. These come in 4 washes, which you can check out HERE. I wear these in size 4.

Another option is a pair of soft shorts, which I love to have in my wardrobe as a break from denim shorts. This pair has a fully elastic waistband (i.e., comfy!), and one review says that the fabric is breezy and doesn’t wrinkle—yes! They come in 5 colors, HERE!

Shoes

For shoe options, slip-on sneakers are always my top recommendation for something versatile that can be worn with jeans, shorts, and even dresses! The mule sneakers I’m showing here have really good reviews for comfort, are pretty affordable at just $31.99 with code SHOP20, and come in white, tan, and black! Great option for comfortable, everyday shoes that go with a lot of things. Check them out HERE.

The pair of sandals I’m showing are a personal favorite as well as a big PMT community fave! They are COMFY, with a squishy footbed, and they’re under $40! And, they’re RUBBER and work for the water, so you can wear them to the pool or to the beach. But, they also look good with jeans, shorts, and skirts and dresses! I own them in an embarrassing amount of colors 😆, but the metallic one I’m showing above is a really versatile option that goes with basically everything else in the capsule. Metallics are GREAT neutrals! Check them out HERE. I wear these in size 8. (I’m normally size 8.5 to 9!)

Last, add a pair of simple open toe heels if you plan to dress up a little. This silhouette is really versatile, and the low heel makes them easy to walk in. They come in 6 colors and are pretty affordable with good reviews! Check them out HERE.
