I recently posted on Instagram an outfit full of wardrobe basics and said that my self from 5 years ago would be laughing. Back then I considered basics a waste of money–especially plain basics. Over the last 5 years I have not only realized how vital it is to have good basics in my closet, but I also realized that not all basics are alike.
For example, I’ve tried quite a few plain tees in my life, but it wasn’t until I found this tee at Nordstrom that I realized why anyone would pay more than $3 for a plain t-shirt. I’ve talked about this tee a ton in the past. I have it in both grey and olive, and it’s my very favorite t-shirt ever! I can wear the grey tee, regular blue jeans, and white sneakers–all very plain pieces–and look really cool and stylish simply because this tee is awesome. The grey and olive versions are kind of heathered, and that texture makes the tee more interesting. But more importantly, they fit and drape so dang awesomely!
Today I’m partnering with Nordstrom to style this very favorite basic tee in olive!
I’m remixing the olive one today as a fun deviation from a standard grey or white tee. I love how olive can make an outfit a little more interesting or sophisticated, and I especially love how it allows you to mix and match a bunch of other neutrals like I did with today’s looks.
For sizing, I’m normally S/M or 6/8 and got this in S as it runs a little large. It comes in 9 colors HERE!
1. Going Out – Adding Statement Pieces
Isn’t it awesome when you can dress up a t-shirt to go out? I love doing it by adding a few statement pieces, like a statement necklace and printed pumps. Throw on a leather jacket to give it a little edge and you’re golden! Turquoise is one of my favorite pairings with olive, btw!
I did a post that was the same outfit formula a while back but with different colors HERE. However, I like this color palette much better! It’s fun to mix up fall looks with a lighter color palette sometimes, you know?
This is the same cardigan as the maroon one I’ve been wearing a ton on Instagram. Loved it so much that I got it in grey too, haha! There are just a couple of sizes left in each color. I wear S in this too, and could even get by with XS as it runs quite large. Find them HERE.
Also, I get asked about these boots all the time because they have the cutout in the front. It’s hard to find a similar pair these days! I found ONE similar one, and though it is not cheap, you can find it HERE in 8 colors.
Man, olive just looks so good with all neutrals! I’m telling ya! Being a pseudo neutral, it can pull together any combo of neutrals and make it interesting. It’s awesome.
I love the addition of the huge scarf here. It’s probably gonna be my go-to scarf for the season. Nordstrom has an incredibly similar one to the one I’m wearing above HERE(and you get free shipping and free returns on it–yay!)
Also, this bag is my newest addition. I never thought I’d say this, but I was feeling like there was too much tan and cognac happening in my bag collection, so I looked for a grey one for a slight deviation. This one caught my eye in-store but not online because it looks more off-white online. However, in person it’s a beautiful light grey that I’m really happy to have found!
Several of you have told me that you bought this tee after my recommendation and love it too. Makes me so happy! But if you’d rather be wearing long sleeves right now you can do all of these looks with one of my other favorite basics from Nordstrom: THIS tunic. It comes in olive, and I have it in white and a sort of mauve or blush and looooove it.
Are you into olive as much as I am? 😀
Huge thanks to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!
