How to Wear a Polka Dot Pencil Skirt in Any Season

The beauty of a polka dot pencil skirt is that you don’t tend to associate it with a season.  For example, with boots you immediately think “fall,” but a polka dot pencil skirt is a piece that seems to transcend seasons.  Excellent piece for your closet.
Today I’ve compiled a collection of ways I’ve worn my black and white polka dot pencil skirt year round.

Spring – Somehow pinks and yellows seem very “spring” to me, and that’s exactly when I wore this outfit.  I’ve also worn it with a white top and bright yellow cardigan which felt very springy too, but I’m too lazy to hunt down that picture.  (It was quite long ago.)

Summer – I paired it with a vibrant green and a strip of neon for summer.  I threw on some tan shoes rather than black or a dark color to keep the outfit feeling upbeat.  And of course, bare arms!
Winter – Layered with a long-sleeved shirt, sweater cardigan, and tights.  You could also do a sweater rather than a cardigan, which is another way I plan to wear this skirt this coming winter.

Fall #1 – This look is more for the transition between summer and fall rather than in the thick of fall.  It’s not too far off from the spring and summer looks, but with longer sleeves and a more “fall” color, maroon.
Fall #2 – I don’t know what says “fall” more than a chambray top and boots!  Haha.  This is a simple way to wear a polka dot pencil skirt in the fall, and I love it!

I think my favorite are the fall ones.  Do you have a favorite?

Sorry, to all you non-pencil skirt wearers.  I tried to look for affordable, cute non-pencil polka dot skirts, but I only liked the one shown above, number four.  I’ll keep being on the lookout!

Audrey, I really like the multiple outfits you created around a polka dot pencil skirt. I have an A line Black and White polka dot skirt that I love wearing with different coloured tops. In case you want to have a look, you can see here:

Great looks! I wear my polka dot skirt all the time. It's my oldest closet item and still a favorite. I really need to find a replacement before mine completely falls apart!

This is such a great post! I don't have a polka dot skirt but I do have a houndstooth skirt that I could remix in a similar way! Thank you!

I bought a polka dot skirt from Target a few months ago, and it has quickly become a closet staple! My favorites are the spring and summer looks. 🙂

You inspire me so much. I'm leaving my appartement soon and France in about 8 months for a very long trip around the world. So, my priority is not about adjusting the content of my closet. But, I try to make the best of it. And thanks of you, I getting better at that 🙂

Thank you…and THANK YOU. For one, I always love how you help make things more wearable. And two, I have that identical skirt and it hangs in the back of my closet. In the summer, I can never seem to pair it with any color but navy or white. Yet, it always seems too 'summery', here when the weather gets blustery in Michigan. Now you've give new life to it.

I think the skirt looks best with your maroon top. Such a great combination! Maybe it's because darker colors like maroon look terrific on you? Love when you do these posts!
