This is a list of my closet staples that I am frequently asked about with updated links for where you can find the items.
I’ve recently had a lot of people ask me where to buy particular items, especially ones seen in the Building a Remixable Wardrobe Series. Since stores stop carrying items and links expire, instead of linking from each of the posts in the BARW series, I created this page instead so that I can update it more easily.

August 31, 2012 at 4:38 amthis list is awesome. i just found your blog and i LOVE it! i live in san diego with my husband who is attending seminary. We love Jesus and i've never found a fashion blog that is modest! you are a blessing and an encouragement to me…especially in the times where i feel like i have to give up fashion for modesty. 🙂

September 4, 2012 at 11:38 pmI agree with everything written here 🙂 Love your blog Audrey, love that you love Jesus, and love that there are clothing inspirations out there that can worship Jesus but not take away fashion! Thank you!

October 2, 2012 at 4:07 pmI couldn't agree more!! Though not for religious reasons, I only feel comfortable at most with my forearms showing!! It is so difficult to find others who dress well, but are not letting everything "hang out"!!! I am so grateful for finding your blog! Conservative, Classy, CHIC!

December 5, 2012 at 9:31 pmClothing inspirations that worship Jesus sounds like an oxymoron to me…

March 6, 2013 at 2:50 amI know this is an old post, and I don't know if you'll see this, but I also recommend stylecovered.com. Hana is a Muslim woman living in Britain, so her style is going to be even more modest than your Christian needs suit, but… oh, that woman is an absolute inspiration in her style choices.

August 23, 2013 at 4:36 amI have tried to view stylecovered but the page doesn't load. Is it still there?

September 5, 2013 at 10:50 pmI am so perplexed on how people are calling this modest. To me it's just normal/average (but cute!). I don't consider myself modest. If you all want modest you should look up some Utah Mormon mom's blog (I don't frequent them but I know there are tons out there). By Utah standards this blog is not modest at all. (sleeveless shirts, tank tops and shorts above the knee would never fly with Utah Mormons) I guess it's all regional. LOL

September 3, 2012 at 6:04 pmI agree…"modest" is the key word with your wardrobe! It's beautiful and stylish, and still MODEST!!

September 4, 2012 at 2:39 pmLove your style and your blog, Audrey!
Always look forward to your posts, you are
inspiring me to create a remixable wardrobe,
something I have strived for for a long time!
Thank you and God Bless!

September 5, 2012 at 4:03 amAudrey, What colors would you recommend for colored jeans that are versatile, but not screaming little kid bright crayon color?
audreytom
September 5, 2012 at 6:09 amHaha, great question! My favorite pair of colored denim is my burgundy pair, because they're colored but the shade is mellower and not as in-your-face. I know most of the colored denim in stores these days are BRIGHT, but you can also try colors in darker shades, like forrest green instead of kelly green, burgundy instead of red, darker teal instead of bright teal. Or, if pastels don't seem too bright to you, try those too. Tilly's has some options of darker shades of denim to get an idea of what I mean.
Or, go with other neutrals, like grey, white, or black. I think a medium-shade or light shade of grey can be a great alternative to blue denim, but they're not scary at all! But if it's too dark, it might end up looking like dark wash blue jeans, so make sure the color is something different.

September 5, 2012 at 4:29 am@mindy, I wondered the exact thing! I went to the mall to see what colors were out there, came home confused! I took a long hard look at my closet and there seemed to be a trend of colors I'm comfortable with (all shades of coral, navy and recently aqua, as well as neutrals). I went back to see if I could find colored denim I would actually wear with things I already owned. Came home with a coral pair from Aeropostale and an aqua pair from American Eagle Outfitters.
I figured the jeans were not a good thing for me to branch out of my comfort zone on, and I have already worn them, HUGE deal for me!
Hope I didn't butt in, but figured I'd share my experience since I was just thinking the same thing as you!
Mindy
September 6, 2012 at 4:18 amNo, I don't think it was butting in. Your insight was totally helpful.

September 6, 2012 at 1:58 amAudrey, this is a fantastic blog! Thank you for posting this list, as well. I'm at the point where I want to clean out and start over with my closet. When you helped your friend, Hannah, around how much was her new wardrobe? 🙂 I wish I had a friend that could help me shop – I'm not a good thrifter, but I want to be! Are you ever in Atlanta?! LOL!!
audreytom
September 6, 2012 at 5:05 amHaha I'm not ever in Atlanta, but my friend who grew up there swears we all need to go. If I ever go, I'd love to help you shop! Hannah's new wardrobe was about $800 if I remember correctly? I don't think we spent all of it, though, because we couldn't find a few pieces she still needed. But remember, we started from SCRATCH. She had literally gotten rid of EVERYTHING except what she was wearing that day.
Whitney
September 6, 2012 at 12:42 pmLet me know if you do decide to come down south! 🙂 I'm planning to start from scratch, too, so that gives me a good idea of how much I'll be spending. I'm on the heavier side, so I'm a little worried that some of these pieces won't be flattering on me. Any additional advice?

September 10, 2012 at 4:03 pmHi Audrey 🙂 I just found your blog via Pinterest, and I love your outfits! You look so polished and I wish I could duplicate all of your looks! I was wondering where you purchased your striped top, or where I can find a similar striped top?
audreytom
September 11, 2012 at 10:00 pmHi! Thanks for your very sweet words! I actually have two striped tops that look almost exactly the same. The first one was from Target and it was cheap ($8) and dying. So I replaced it with one from H&M that was also cheap ($10) but better quality. H&M still has them in stores! I also added a few links to the Where to Buy My Closet Staples page.

September 11, 2012 at 9:48 pmAudrey- I have a question for you about a shirt in one of your pics: There is a (I think) a dark blue shirt that you have on with dress pants and 2 other ways….may I ask where you purchased the top from?
Cheers!

September 12, 2012 at 6:46 pmHey Audrey, I love this blog! I want your riding boots but can't really spend over $100 on one pair of shoes. Do you have suggestions on where to get a less expensive pair without looking cheap? Thanks!

September 25, 2012 at 6:32 amconfession time. i have been checking all past posts and outfits with the cognac boots & i am super surprised how versatile they are. i am likely to get some in the morning. it's funny, hubby and i were talking about shoes & how i don't usually spend much unless it's for workout specific shoes. i try to pinch pennies where i can. it's in my nature of having grown up in a very large family. but i go thru too many cheapy pairs of shoes each year. gotta start investing better on a few pair that'll last awhile.
Mindy
September 25, 2012 at 6:33 amwould cognac pair well with chocolate brown? i've got a dress that needs some loving but i am always stuck on what shoes to wear with it.
audreytom
September 25, 2012 at 6:06 pmHey Mindy! I LOVE my cognac boots. I wince at spending more than $25 on a pair of shoes, but I've ripped through so many pairs of boots because I wear them so often and in some harsher conditions/terrain. So when I got some birthday money I used it to splurge on boots, seeing it as an investment. I have not been disappointed by them. It was hard to not wear them nearly everyday in the fall and San Diego "winter."
I definitely think you can wear chocolate brown with cognac, but you can wear a lot of others with chocolate brown too since it's a neutral. See this picture when I helped Hannah with her wardrobe: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jqnGEI9lgsE/TjcrDK7BvrI/AAAAAAAABb4/IGDjxWqBNME/s400/h02.png

September 27, 2012 at 5:55 amThanks. It worked very well. I did a quick outfit change last night to test out what completer pieces & accessories works with it. Will have to get someone to help me with taking pics this weekend.

September 29, 2012 at 10:01 pmThis list is awesome! Thank you so much! I've been wanting to remix my wardrobe for the longest, but I've realized that most of my pieces just don't work well with others (the result of emotional shopping). I need a list of workable clothes and this is the perfect starting point for me!

September 30, 2012 at 1:34 amIf yellow looks bad with my skin, what other color would you suggest for a mustard cardigan?
Thank you for this blog! It's the first that makes me think I can pull my wardrobe together! And last week I bought two camis and two skinny belts, then today I just bought a striped tee!
One last question will keep us on track when styles change? You just make it all clear. It helps to have someone translate the new styles into what everyday girls like us wear!

October 6, 2012 at 11:18 pmI have the mustard cardigan from ModCloth, and it's really, really pilled, so beware about buying theirs! I'm thinking I'll get a new one from Land's End (of all places…). Love your tips!

October 11, 2012 at 8:17 pmJust found your blog the other day on Pinterest and I am hooked! I normally don't care about style magazines, blogs, etc., but yours is SO RELATABLE and I can't wait to re-vamp my wardrobe and work what I already have in my closet. I worked out a deal with hubby that when I reach my goal weight (~21 lbs to go) I get to go on an all out shopping spree for a new wardrobe. I'm so excited and I will be reading your blog in preparation!
(I also love how most everything you post is from Target, Old Navy, H&M, etc. I told myself for a long time that my wardrobe troubles were due to not shopping at places that were "pricey" enough, but now I know that this is not true!)
audreytom
October 13, 2012 at 2:38 pmCongrats on the weight loss! (And good luck on the rest. 🙂 ) I'm excited that you get a shopping spree for your new body and as a reward for all your hard work. How fun! Thanks for taking the time to write 🙂

November 4, 2012 at 11:23 amThankyou so much, Audrey, for all you are doing. I am 48 years young and live in New Zealand, and I find that your common sense and practical fashion advice is just what I am needing. Just wondering if any of these shops you have mentioned ship to New Zealand?

November 7, 2012 at 7:10 pmI love your blog. I'm a new reader and addicted! Question on the mustard cardi-I want one, but I like 3/4 sleeves better. Any idea where to find it? I'm considering getting the Tilt one from tillys that you got. Any regrets on the sleeve length after having the 3/4 one?
audreytom
November 7, 2012 at 9:06 pmThanks, Lacey. 🙂 Absolutely no regrets on full-length sleeves. I prefer to buy full-length sleeves even though I always push up my sleeves to be 3/4. When it sometimes gets chillier at night, I love having the option of being able to pull down the sleeves for a bit more warmth.

January 8, 2013 at 8:54 pmHi! I just found this blog on Pinterest, and I love it! Already tried a tip about putting a button-down under a cardigan, and the outfit turned out much more put together than before. My question is: where do you buy your belts?? Many of your outfits look so cute and put-together from belting…tips?
audreytom
January 9, 2013 at 2:43 amHey Maddie~ Most of my wide belts are from Lulus.com (I bought them with a gift card that I won). The skinny ones are usually from Target or Forever 21 (super cheap at F21) and sometimes H&M.

February 3, 2013 at 7:27 pmI absolutely adore your website and feel that I'm learning quite a bit. I love fashion but sometimes feel overwhelmed. I have two kids so I need something that can really move with me without having me hanging out all over the place..lol. I think your outfits look terrific and have just enough modesty. Thank you so much and I can't wait to see what you have in store for us for spring and summer!
