Comfy At-Home Outfits to Going Out Looks Made Easy + Reminder for PMT Challenge

Cute Comfy Outfits at Home

I don’t know about you, but when I’m at home I’m mostly in comfy clothes.  This is especially true during the holidays when I’m visiting family and we’re just hanging out at home most of the time.

Several people have asked about loungewear or what to wear when hanging out with family at home and still look cute.  I don’t have great recommendations for loungewear or cute pajamas, rather I usually just wear comfortable “regular” clothes with leggings.  What I love about this is, besides getting double duty use out of my clothes and besides not having to pack extra loungewear, when we have to head out the door quickly for lunch or an errand I can just add or change a few pieces and be ready to go!

As we all head to holiday vacations I want to share a few combos that will allow you to be comfortable at home and then take a matter of seconds to change and still look decent.

All the at-home comfy outfits feature leggings because like I said, I usually just wear comfortable regular clothes with leggings.  I’d love to add joggers to my comfy clothes, but until then all I’ve got for you are leggings outfits.  ðŸ˜€

For the “out of the house” outfits, you could either wear the leggings or substitute them for black jeans.  Well, you could just as easily wear regular blue jeans too, but if you really don’t want to think about anything and need to wear jeans, just go with black.  The color scheme and look are basically the same, but sometimes leggings feel too casual or I need pockets or something.

The leggings I wear out of the house are Zella (found HERE, reviewed HERE).

Tee + Cozy Cardigan
How sick are you of seeing this grey cardigan?  Haha!  As much as I’ve worn it around the house, I’ve also worn it at home as loungewear.  Leggings and a striped tee, or any long sleeve tee, is a great combo to lounge in.

Then, when we’re about to go out I change to black jeans, add a scarf, and put on shoes.  Voila, a “real” outfit!

Cute Outfit for Lounging at Home

Comfy Sweater –> Athleisure
I reviewed this sweater recently (HERE) and have worn it a bunch since then.  It was only $20 and makes an easy, cozy outfit.  It’s nearly sold out online, but there were plenty of sizes in store.  Underneath, I either wear the striped tee in the last outfit or a HEATTECH from Uniqlo HERE.  (HEATTECH is a really thin layer to keep you extra warm.  The sleeves are shorter on purpose so that they don’t peek out from underneath your clothes, and I get the scoop neck so that it doesn’t show under my top’s neckline.  I’ve been wearing these for at least 7 years!  I wear Medium.)

For a quick errand I’d wear my new Nike sneakers (that I still need to review–sooo comfy!) and add a tiny pendant necklace to finish off a simple athleisure outfit.

Please note that the leggings don’t have to bunch at the knees, but I bunched them up in this picture to make the leggings ankle length with sneakers.

Jersey Dress + Cozy Cardigan
If you don’t own a dress that feels like pajamas, you’ve really gotta give them a try.  They can be unstructured like the one shown above, or they can have seams and structure and give you great definition like ones in THIS post and THIS post.  They also come in varying thickness, so if you’ve tried really thin ones and didn’t like them, keep searching for thicker ones.

Anyway!  The at-home look is kind of like a nightgown, especially because the dress feels like pajamas, hehe.  Wearing leggings with it will not only keep you warm, but it allows you to move around without having to be self-conscious of flashing anyone in a dress.  Then, when you’re about to head out all you have to do is put on your shoes.  Tell me that’s not easy!

What to Wear to Lounge at Home

Comfy Sweater –> Dressy Casual
This at-home combo is the same as Outfit #2 but we’re turning this into a dressier look for going out instead of an athleisure look.  I lounged at home in both this sweater and the one in outfit #2, and they were both cozy and very comfortable.

When going out, I’d change to black jeans (though you don’t have to), add a statement necklace, and put on my shoes.

Shop for the Look:
Sweater: Nordstrom (exact)
Leggings: Zella via Nordstrom (exact)
Slippers: Dearfoams (exact)
Jeans: c/o Paige Denim (exact–on sale, similar cheaper)
Necklace: c/o That’s Mine Boutique (exact)
Bag: c/o Gray Monroe (exact–search Amy Fold-Over, similar, similar)
Boots: Fergalicious via Famous Footwear (similarsimilar)
Watch: c/o Daniel Wellington (exactsimilar–half the price)

These aren’t necessarily super special, but I like that there’s overlap between my daily outfits and being comfortable at home.  It means I can be really comfortable at home and be ready to head out the door in an instant–and without much thought.  That last part is most important to me.  It also means I don’t have to pack a lot of extra loungewear.
