January Reviews: Winter Finds Under $50

A behind-the-scenes look at my office ā€“ boxes, packaging, and clothes strewn everywhere. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« It’s nuts over here, but that’s because I’ve ordered and tried a lot of items lately. I found some great winter clothes under $50 that are definitely worth checking out, and I want to share them with you today! Also, we have some fun current favorites from one of our teammates, Crystal. She lives in a VERY COLD area, so hopefully those of you who are also battling -30 degrees will find her recs helpful! šŸ„¶

SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.Ā

1. Old Navy High Waist Wide Leg Trousers ā€“ wearing size S
Great for work, but people are also wearing these trousers casually with tees, sweaters, and sneakers these days! The material is thick but drapey. The seams look a tiny bit wonky from the front on me, but given that they are very affordable on sale, they are good enough for me at the moment. Available in lots of colors and in sizes XS to 4X, along with tall and petite lengths.

I haven’t worn a belt in AGES and had to pull this one out from the depths of my…packing boxes!! Boxes I still hadn’t unpacked from 2.5 years of living here! šŸ˜‚

2. Fleece-Lined Flare Leggings ā€“ wearing size MĀ
I tried sooooo many pairs of fleece leggings and found a few good ones, but ultimately I landed on these. I learned a lot through trying so many different flare leggings and decided that I wanted a pair that has a larger flare, is on the longer side and falls over my shoe quite a bit as opposed to sitting right on top, is NOT super fitted at the knee, doesn’t show VPLs (duh), preferably doesn’t have prominent seaming down the sides (at least not the double lines of seams!), and has vertical pockets.

This pair was the winner! Warm, good fit, larger flare, longest of all the other flares I tried, minimal VPLs compared to others, looser around the knees, and pockets! They’re available in a 29ā€ and 32ā€ inseam, and I got the latter. I wear size M.

BTW, great thing about flare leggings #1: Covered ankles! They keep you warmer.

Great thing about flare leggings #2: Flares still contour the shape of your hips and upper thighs, so you don’t look shapeless in them!

3. Amazon Sweatshirt ā€“ wearing size MĀ
This sweatshirt is soft and fluid but thick and cozy. Comes with a hood! I like that the zipper is the same color as the sweatshirt. Plus, thumbholes!Ā  I sized up to M because S was a bit short in both the torso and the sleeves, and it wasn’t as comfortable when I raised my arms. In size M, the sleeves are plenty long on me. It’s available in 16 COLORS and in sizes XXS to XL.

4. Floral Print Blouse ā€“ wearing size MĀ
I shared this one, and itā€™s in both the Casual Winter Capsule Wardrobe and the Workwear Winter Capsule Wardrobe. Oooooooh this is pretty! And it is SO STINKING AFFORDABLE at just $9.95! Pair it with dark wash jeans for a cute outfit to go out to lunch or wear it with slacks for work. Size M fits me best as this blouse runs quite small.

5. California Sweatshirt ā€“ wearing size M
I love this graphic print sweatshirt! Itā€™s thick and pairs well with both leggings and jeans. Comes in several colors, HERE. I wear size M.

Its shape is a bit off from a standard crewneck: the shoulders are dropped and the area around the hips is narrower than I expected. However, I have curvy hips and even though it fits around my hips comfortably without riding up throughout the day, I opted to size up to M for an overall looser fit to begin with.

Note, since the shoulders are dropped this sweatshirt will broaden your shoulder line, so pass if that is not what you want!

6. Smocked Blouse ā€“ wearing size S
This is a great top that is a step up from a T-shirt and even a plaid shirt, but not quite as dressy as a blouse. It is flowy and drapes well. Very affordable and available in several colors and prints! I wear size S.

7. Magnetic Eyelashes
I don’t have a pic of these, but I wanted to share about them anyway! I need them for an upcoming event, and the magnetic part is what got me. I havenā€™t tried them yet, but the promise of no glue and the variety of eyelashes that come in the kit is why I tried them!

8. No-Show Socks ā€“ wearing size M
I’ve been wearing Gekk’s socks when it comes to slip-on sneakers, but I was looking around for other options. Because, why not? These no-show socks hit the right length, not showing under slip-on sneakers like you can see here, and they actually stay on! Ultimately, I needed to pass on them because the M was a TAD small for me and because I could feel the elastic at the top of my foot. I tried size L, but they were way too big for me. So for fit reasons, they didn’t work out for me but I wanted to pass them along for you to try!

9. Sweatshirt Pants ā€“ wearing size S
Are they officially called “sweatshirt pants”? No, but they should be. SO SOFT and COMFY! Fully elastic pull-on waistband that is extremely forgiving. Feel COMFY at work, like you’re in loungewear, but look polished and professional. Two colors available!

Crystal’s Recent Recs

Now here are some of Crystal’s recent finds! I’ll let her take it away…

Ā

10. Button Front Cardigan
I am absolutely loving this cardigan and am wearing it (I actually own it in three different colors!) on repeat whenever I want a cardi rather than a pullover. It’s textured and cozy, but doesn’t feel heavy or add unnecessary bulkiness. It’s also a great length, especially for short-waisted people like myself since it hits right at mid-hip. It’s available in 5 colors and in sizes XS to XXL.

11. Naturalizer Loafer
I snagged these Naturalizer loafers in the camel color (they’re available in other colors, also) for UNDER $50 (reg. $100+ according to Amazon). They’re comfortable and the slight heel makes them work well with wide leg, flare, and/or bootcut pants.

12. Wool Socks
I just found these particular wool socks around Christmas. They’re SUPER soft, super warm, and very cozy. They’re 80% merino wool, which is what makes them so warm. They’re also on the thicker side, so they’re probably best worn with boots or around the house. I got them in a pack of 6, which is a great value!

13. Conditioning Leave-In Mist
I’m loving this mist! The static we have here in the winter with the freezing cold temps and dry air outside and the warm, dry air inside is INSANE! Most products designed to help with hydration, shine, and static control are overpoweringly scented and either don’t work or they weigh my hair down. This product nourishes, moisturizes, and keeps static under control. Plus, it’s lightweight with no smell!

I hope this helps you find some items to keep you WARM (and stylish!) this winter!
