Alright, let’s talk about tops that you can transition easily from winter to spring and what to look for!
SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.
What to Look for in Tops that Work in Both Winter and Spring
There are two key things I look for when searching for tops that work in both winter and spring.
First is that the color works with both my winter and spring color palettes. For me, usually tops in softer neutrals do the trick. They work with my darker winter colors and my lighter spring palettes.
Second, I look for tops in a medium weight fabric. If it’s too thick, I’ll overheat in the spring. If it’s too thin, I’ll be cold in the winter. A medium weight is great for spring but can also be worn over and under other layers to make it warmer for winter.
I’ll share two tops that fit this criteria, and I’ll show them each in winter and spring looks. I’ll also round up a few more options at the bottom of this post.
First up is this adorable puff shoulder top! This top is VERY COMFY, made of material that feels like a t-shirt, but it’s fairly thick so it’s a great weight for spring that can also be layered over and under things for winter. It’s on the pricier side, but it’s super SOFT and STRETCHY and feels really good. This top makes you look like you’re dressed up, but you’ll feel REALLY comfortable. I LOVE tops like that! It’s also incredibly versatile. You can wear it for casual and work outfits, and you’ll be able to wear it in the winter and spring! It comes in 4 colors, HERE. I wear size S. Definitely worth checking out if you need a top that works a ton of different ways and feels comfortable!
For a look in colder months, I paired it with pants that have a heavier texture, like these STRETCHY corduroy pants! They come in 10 colors, HERE. I’ve shared these before, and the texture makes them great for “winterizing” pieces, regardless of whether the color is darker or lighter! I wear those in size 4.

For another casual look with this top, pair it with black jeans and booties! These jeans are by my favorite super duper comfortable brand, Wit & Wisdom. This pair is very stretchy throughout the legs but is a little thicker and helps you feel a little more supported than some of the other pairs. It also has the ultra-comfy stretchy waistband that I can’t live without! Check out the jeans HERE. I wear size 4.

You can also wear this top for winter in a really cute outfit for work with plaid trousers like THESE and THESE. By the way, this brand has INCREDIBLY comfortable work pants, so definitely check them out!
Another top that transitions seamlessly from winter to spring is this sweater! It’s SOFT and COZY without being super heavy. It’s a medium thickness, but it feels very lightweight and easy to wear. And, it’s ONLY $16.97 right now!! It’s somewhat cropped at 20” long, which is a fairly popular style these days that works well with high waisted bottoms and create a fresh and modern silhouette. This color is another great example of something that works with darker colors for winter and lighter colors in the spring, and I’ll show you both in a bit! If you’re interested in a similar sweater that’s NOT cropped, try THIS one. The “Tan Boulder” color is very similar, but it’s much longer at 27″. I reviewed it once before, and it’s really SOFT and cozy and comes in 6 colors, HERE. I wear this in size S.
For a winter look, I paired the sweater with dark wash bootcut jeans and booties. These are my favorite bootcut jeans, as they are also SOFT and STRETCHY with the super comfy stretchy elastic waistband! Sizes are limited at the moment, but I’ve seen them fully restocked time and time again, so check for them HERE. I size up to 8 in these for a better fit around my thighs. However, other PMT readers who don’t have as full of thighs as I do have stuck with their regular size (which means I would have worn size 6).

For other winter looks, you can pair this with the stretchy corduroy pants I mentioned earlier. Those things are really versatile!
Come spring, wear these tops with lighter colors on the bottom and shoes that don’t appear as heavy to easily create spring outfits!

Here is the sweater in a spring look with chinos in a medium to lighter green. This is a great combo for relaxed work looks.
