Tis Olive Season

I (think) it’s been a long time since I’ve worn an outfit that’s void of an elastic waistband or comfy stretchy material, so this is a BIG accomplishment, my friends.  I gave myself a huge pat on the back for it on Instagram and treated myself to ice cream–on my way to the dentist.  True story.

(Wishing I had rolled the cuff of my pants for these pictures, which is how I wore the outfit but didn’t do it when I photographed it.  Boo.  Little details like that can make huge differences.)

And finally, I’m no gardener, but I’m pretty sure it’s olive season.  Jeans, if you didn’t catch that.  I was a little shocked by how much I wore them last year and decided that they’re a staple in my closet.  You can see all the ways I’ve worn mine by clicking here, and there are a bunch of great options out below.  The first row is all denim while the second row contains olive pants made of material that might be better suited for more professional looks.

I would love to see a post on which materials/styles to look for when building a wardrobe that needs to function casually and at work (business casual). I don't have that much trouble with tops but with pants/skirt/dresses it seems like they only work for one or the other. Any chance you can offer up some guidelines and examples of how to pick out crossover pieces?

As little as I wear this shade, I have a pair of straight leg olive chinos that get worn all the time in the spring and fall. I don't know what it is about them, but they just work for those seasons to me.

So thanks to your post ages ago about buying colored pants, I finally bought olive over the wknd and kelly green at Gap last Thursday (more Spring Summer). The lady at Lucky Brand tried to get me to buy cinnamon cords, that was a push. But one day, maybe, one day. Best decision ever, buy colored pants EVERYONE 🙂

The way I see it, you've gotta make the dentist work for their pay. 😉

Don't wait too long to get them! For some reason they're hard to find the majority of the time and I CONSTANTLY have people asking for good olive jean options. Since there are a bunch of good ones now, get them while there are options!

Aw, I feel honored to be part of your inspiration for a pair of olive skinnies! I haven't done blog reading for today yet, but I hopped over to your blog–you are totally working the olive pants. I love them with the pop of pink!

I totally agree–I was wearing them from fall through winter and into spring. (Probably cuz a San Diego winter is more like everyone else's fall…)

That's a great idea, Amber. My friend asked me how to do that a few months ago and I spouted out some pieces she should try. She told me two days ago that she bought them and loved how they really did work for casually (with her two young kids) and for business casual. I don't even remember what I said to her except that one item was a jersey pencil skirt.

I love olive jeans! I just bought another pair which now makes three. Is that too many? To be fair, I don't love how the other two pair fit. Anyways, good job on wearing pants without elastic! lol. You look so cute!

Olive is a great colour for cooler weather! 🙂

Congrats on ditching the elastic waistbands post baby too! It is a big accomplishment! I developed an insane fondness for elastic waistbands over pregnancy though and I won't ever give it up, but squeezing back into non-maternity pants is awesome and widens the wardrobe! 🙂

Option one is actually a khaki material from Old Navy and it fits great! Might work for you?

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has trouble with it! I'm actually waiting on a jersey pencil skirt from Old Navy (the black and white polka dot one you've shown before), as you've shown a similar one in both work and casual setting, so I'm hoping it will be a good fit.

I have a pair of olive cropped pants but olive jeans would be a great addition to my closet too! And I agree, cuffing the jeans would have made this perfect, but we all forget things sometimes!

You look so great in these jeans, Audrey! I have a pair of olive leggings that I love to wear with longer sweaters and tunics, but I feel like legit olive pants would be such a well-loved addition to my closet, given how much I wear my olive vest and jacket. I really like this top on you as well – the lacey detail around the neckline is so pretty!

I recently purchased a pair of olive pants that were on sale, and you were the inspiration to decide I could actually expand my wardrobe and wear them. After checking out I realized I had no idea what shoes to wear with them. Of course I immediately went to your blog and looked through your outfits to get some ideas. Thanks for sharing your style and congratulations!
