Three Easy Pairings for Your Colorful Tops

Like I said in Friday’s PMT Lately post, I’ve been focusing on adding colorful pieces to my summer wardrobe.  I get asked a few times a week about color pairings or how to style colorful pieces in general, so today I’m partnering again with ModCloth to talk about that!   (Catch last week’s post with ModCloth on why you should add some casual statement tees to your wardrobe HERE.)

I always say that ModCloth is one of my favorite places to shop when I’m looking to add personality and FUN to my wardrobe.  If you look at my summer capsule wardrobe you’ll notice on the list was a nicer green top.  I found this BEAUTIFUL one from ModCloth, and it fit the bill perfectly!   BTW, if green’s not your color, at the end of this post I rounded up 12 colorful tops for you to choose from!

The way I mix and match is pretty formulaic, but it totally works to utilize your closet.  Not to mention it makes getting dressed really easy, and most importantly it means each of you can do it too!  Without further ado, here are 3 very easy pairings for any colored top.

Outfit #1: Bootcut Jeans
I’ve mentioned before how I really like bootcut or boyfriend jeans for the summer.  While I’m an enormous fan of skinny jeans, in the summer I find bootcut jeans more breathable on those days when it’s not quite warm enough for shorts but maybe too humid or just still too hot for skinny jeans that suffocate your legs.

Nicer tops like this look really classy with bootcut jeans.  Pair them with wedges and add some jewelry, and you’ll have a super easy outfit that will make you feel pulled together and really chic!  I used all white accessories to help darker hues pop a little more.

Outfit #2: White Shorts or Skirt
Colorful tops always work with white!  I know many people are wary of white jeans, but white shorts feel much more doable since there’s much less material to worry about getting stained.  Pair any colored top with white shorts and it’ll work!

White denim shorts, as casual as denim shorts are, can totally work with nicer tops like this.  The tops dress up the denim a little, and adding jewelry polishes off the whole look.  Bold or bright colored tops look soooo good against crisp white skirt or shorts!

Outfit #3:  Printed Skirt or Shorts
Lastly, if you want to work with more color, the easiest thing to do is find a skirt that has the color of the top in its print.  The print does the hard work for you of tying together any colors in your outfit.

Above I paired my green top with a floral skirt that has green in its print.  There’s also yellow in the print, so I pulled that out and wore yellow shoes!  The print ties together the yellow and green for an easy, but colorful outfit!

These three pairings work with any colorful top, so don’t be scared of adding some color to your wardrobe!  Below are a bunch of really pretty ones from ModCloth.  They range from being on the more casual end to being able to be worn for work or dressed up a little for parties.  Go get your color on, people!  ;D
