Three Casual Outfits With a Utility Jacket for Early Fall

Huge thanks to Gap and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post

If you don’t have a utility jacket yet, I don’t know what you’re doing with your life! 😜 As the weather starts to cool, I love being able to pull out my trusty utility jacket to throw on as a light layer. It makes life sooo easy because it goes with so many things, and today I’m partnering with Gap and ShopStyle to show you three outfits you can wear with a utility jacket!

Gap has some really great basics and cute, comfy elevated basics—meaning basics with a little twist for extra style. They have great leggings, loungewear, t-shirts, activewear, sweatshirts, and denim! One of our PMT team members loves Gap’s denim because they’re comfy with a little give, but not too stretchy so that you’ll still feel supported in your jeans, like they’re holding everything in for ya. Also, Gap carries a variety of sizes, including straight, plus, petite, tall, and maternity options. They have denim options for every body type, plus lots of cuts and washes to choose from! Plus, Gap has programs towards sustainability efforts, such as their Washwell program which reduces water usage and using recycled and 100% organically grown cotton and more.

Let’s talk through three outfits you can wear with a utility jacket!

SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes.

1. Jeans + T-shirt
This is the easiest and probably most common outfit to throw a utility jacket over. If you want to spice it up a little, opt for jeans with a little character, like these light wash distressed boyfriend jeans. These jeans are lightweight and soft, giving you that comfy worn-in feel, and they totally upgrade your standard jeans + t-shirt look. They’re available in sizes 24 to 35, and in petite and tall lengths! Find them HERE. I wear size 27—they run a little big.

Another way to upgrade the look is with a t-shirt in a fun color. This tee has a flattering scoop neckline, and this color is fantastic for fall! It’s pretty thick, too, as opposed to a super thin tissue tee. I know some of you appreciate thicker t-shirts, so check these out HERE! They come in regular, petite, and tall lengths. I wear size S. There is also a similar tee that has more colors and more sizes available HERE.

This utility jacket is thick and sturdy. It’s not super heavy, but it does feel like true outerwear. I love that it has good structure but also nips in at the waist thanks to the drawstring waistband. And of course, pockets are a big deal so that you can be handsfree! It comes in both this green color and a beige tan color which you can see HERE. Unfortunately sizes are limited, but check if yours is available. I wear size XS—size down in this. There is a similar jacket that has a cute quilted detail that is available in more petite sizes, HERE.

2. Leggings + Tee
I love wearing a utility jacket with leggings since the jacket tends to be longer and able to cover more of your rear. Here, I’m wearing the same tee as in the outfit above, just with leggings instead.

These leggings are nice! They’re SOFT, smooth, stretchy, and comfy! I feel like they breathe a bit better than other leggings, and they don’t have much compression, so they don’t feel suffocating. If you’ve been looking for some leggings that are flattering but don’t have a lot of compression, these are a great pair to try. Plus, they have upright POCKETS along the legs! They’re available in regular, petite, and tall lengths. Find them HERE. I wear size S.

3. Sweatshirt + Jeans
As the weather cools, throw your utility jacket over a sweatshirt for an extra layer! If you really want to upgrade your style, go for a cute, printed statement sweatshirt. This one is soooooooooo cute, and thanks to its raw hem, semi-cropped length, and puff sleeves, I feel instantly stylish in it! Not to mention the lighter colored leopard print is stinking adorable! It comes in gray, a cute light rust orange, this light leopard print, and a gray and black leopard print, which you can see HERE. I wear size S.

I paired it with straight leg distressed jeans with a raw hem to, again, give the outfit more character. These jeans are lightweight and comfy with a little stretch. They’re available in regular, petite, and tall lengths and sizes 24 to 35! I loooove how many size options are available at Gap! Find the jeans HERE. I’m wearing size 27/4. If you’d prefer other cuts or washes, Gap has tons of other great pairs of denim, HERE!

Those are just a few of the many ways you can wear a utility jacket right now and as we head into cooler weather!
