PMT Lately + Instagram Outfits #25: Summer Style!

Summer Outfits
Hope you all had a fun July 4th (for those in the States)!  Here’s what’s been going on lately, what I’m working on for the blog behind the scenes, and
  • Vacation!!!  We didn’t travel anywhere, but I’m off work on a staycation for the next week having a blast in San Diego with our friends who flew into town.  So excited!
  • Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  I’m getting ready to dive into this after I get back from vacation!  It’s one of the hugest sales of the year and begins early on July 13th for those who have Nordstrom cards.  I’ll write more about it when it gets closer, but you can read my last year’s intro it all HERE and see my previous posts from it HERE.  If you don’t yet have a Nordstrom card, you can get $20 to spend at Nordstrom if you sign up for one HERE, and you’ll also get early access to the upcoming sale!
  • Summer Wardrobe.  I’ve been working on my summer wardrobe, slooooowly.  But it’s getting there!! While I’m not done, (I’m still shopping for a variety of sandals) I’m really happy with what I have and what I’ve been wearing during the last couple weeks of a heatwave.  Some of the outfits are below!
  • Summer Style Posts.  Now that I feel like I have a good handle on summer things, plus our weather finally heated up in the last few weeks, I have so many ideas for summer style posts!  What kinds of things would be helpful for you?  I can do a roundup of dresses, skirts, outfits, colorful pieces, basics.  Just let me know!

Here’s what’s been happening lately on Instagram (@puttingmetogether) and Facebook. If you don’t follow on either of those, you can see the outfits as they’re posted (instead of waiting for these roundups) here on the blog over on the righthand sidebar. If you click those images, you can also shop the outfits–no need to sign up for!

I post many outfits on Instagram and Facebook that never make it to the blog apart from these roundups. And often by the time I post them here, the sales aren’t happening or they’re sold out. So, make sure to glance over to the righthand sidebar every once in a while!

For sizing reference, I’m 5’6″ with a short torso, and normally size S/M or 6/8.  Usually size 8.5 to 9 in shoes.

striped tank swing dress + cognac and gold accessories
I recently reviewed this stretchy, soft, pajama dress (as I like to call them), but here is how I wore it to church last Sunday.  Man, this dress is awesome, and it’s on sale right now!  It comes in several solid colors and a few other prints.
If you’re worried about swing dresses looking like a huge shapeless sac, try adding a long pendant necklace or statement necklace.  Often times they’ll anchor an outfit and solve your problem!

light blue striped skirt + white top + blush
Unfortunately this skirt is sold out in most sizes, though still available in a couple sizes.  (This is why you’ve gotta follow on Facebook or Instagram!  🙂  Stuff sells out by the time I post them here.)
I absolutely love the simplicity of this look and wore this to lead worship at church a couple Sundays ago.  I usually can’t wear dresses because there is no place to hook the monitor pack without a belt or pockets.  But skirts work every time, as I can hook the pack onto the back waistband.

black maxi dress + cognac and gold accessories
This is an old favorite that’s totally back in stock in this color!  I don’t always love maxi dresses for very hot days, but sometimes I’m doing stuff where it’s better to have my legs covered, but I don’t want to wear any kind of jeans.  One example is times I’ll be out for long periods when it goes from very hot during the day to much cooler at night–this dress is great for accommodating both temps.  It’s also good for days I’ll be bending over or bending down a lot with multiple little kids (friends’ kids or whatever) but don’t want to wear shorts or it’s too hot for jeans.  Maxi skirts and dresses are my go-to for those occasions.
You do have to wear a strapless bra with this.  I wear THIS one.  It’s my first expensive strapless bra that’s not from Target (haha!) and also maybe the first one that doesn’t bother me all day.

white lace top + olive green utility shorts + tan accessories
I wear this outfit to the zoo pretty often.  My utility shorts are soooo old, but I keep coming back to them every summer.  They are very lightweight, which I prefer to denim shorts on hotter days.  I found a similar pair HERE from Target, though I don’t know how lightweight they are.
My top is sold out in many sizes at the moment, but I also found a similar one HERE that also comes in a cute pink!  A lace tee like this is one of my closet staples and must have items!

navy pleated skirt + striped tee + yellow accessories
The striped tee and pleated navy skirts are two classic pieces, and I tried to bring them to life a little more by bookending the outfit with mustard yellow accessories!

This skirt was a gift from Everlane and can be found HERE.  I found a shorter and cheaper version, but it’s sold out in most regular sizing.  However, it’s available in plus sizes!  See it HERE.

This was an outfit I wore before our heatwave.  I loooove grey with blush!

black jumpsuit + turquoise accessories
On Instagram and Facebook I said I was SHOCKED that I was in a jumpsuit!  I was even more shocked that I actually loved it!!!
I would never, ever have tried this on my own.  An online boutique sent it to me as a surprise.  When I pulled it out of the box, I immediately tried to think of which of my friends I could give it to because I honestly didn’t think I’d wear it.  But for some reason, I tried it on–just to try it on and see.  And then I kinda fell in love with it, haha!
It’s super soft and stretchy, made of the same material as the pajama dresses that I adore.  The ruffle neckline is adorable, and this jumpsuit has pockets!  I mean, I really couldn’t ask for much more, haha.  The neckline is all elastic, so it’s very easy to take off.  (Also good for nursing mamas, actually!)  And yes, it is TOTALLY awkward to use the restroom because you are basically half naked.  😛
I wore this to my friend’s birthday party for beer, pizza, and donuts earlier this week!
SIZING & MEASUREMENTS: This has a 29″ inseam.  I’m 5’6″, and I’m wearing it above with flats and it’s not quite touching the ground.  I’m wearing this in M.  The top is a little roomy with my smaller bust, but I haven’t had a problem with it falling down or anything.

Jumpsuit: c/o Eloges (exact–wearing M in black)
Necklace: Nordstrom
Shoes: Old Navy (exact)
Earrings: c/o Nickel & Suede (exact–size L)

I’m relieved to say that I actually don’t hate summer style at the moment.  However, our summer lasts until about November so I’ve got a looooong way to go.  We’ll see what tune I’m singing come mid-August.  😛
What are some of YOUR summer go-to outfits or pieces lately?
