Huge thanks to Nordstrom and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post
Isn’t it crazy how quickly our fall calendars can fill up? Personally, it’s such a busy but fun time for our family. Our kids love fall festivities like going to the pumpkin patch, decorating cookies, family TV time, outdoor dinners with friends, and whatever else our community has to offer. Today I’m sharing five outfits with stylish sweaters for fall that you can wear for all of those fun family activities, and I’m partnering with Nordstrom and ShopStyle to do it!
You know that Nordstrom is one of my favorite places to shop because they have so many clothes that feel really, really, REALLY comfortable. Shopping there over the years has transformed my wardrobe! I also LOVE Nordstrom’s customer service because, for one, they offer free shipping and free return shipping on all orders! It eases the pain of shopping online because you can try items or order multiple sizes to find your best fit, risk free. I also love that you can utilize Nordstrom’s in-store or curbside pickup if you don’t want to wait for shipping. You also earn points on purchases as a Nordy Club member, which is totally free to join. Plus, you get other benefits, like free basic alterations and more! Check out all that the Nordy Club has to offer HERE!
On the note of fun fall activities, from now through December, Nordstrom is hosting lots of fun holiday experiences that you can participate in with your friends and family, both in-store and online! From video calls and video messages from Santa, in-person holiday breakfasts with activities for kids, gift idea events with Nordstrom Gift Card giveaways, to photo booths and more, there are sooo many activities to choose from! This month, you can learn to create beautiful tablescapes, have fun in the photo booth, and learn to make sourdough bread, just to name a few. Head to Nordstrom to check out all the Festive Experiences and RSVP now!
Now let’s talk through a few different types of sweaters you can wear this fall! Also as a heads up, most of these are fairly pricey for sweaters, but I do think they feel better in subtle ways than cheaper alternatives that have the same appearance but not the same feel. Over the years, I have found that those subtleties, like how the material feels, how the garment drapes or hangs on you, or how heavy it is to wear, etc., really make wearing clothes more comfortable and more enjoyable! 😊 Here are some sweaters for fall!
SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.
1. Simple, Relaxed Crewneck or V-Neck w/ Texture
This is an easy outfit for a trip to the pumpkin patch, dinner with friends, or really any semi-casual activity. It’s super versatile and so easy to wear!
I looove this sweater as an alternative to a basic, plain, fitted crewneck pullover sweater. This thermal stitch pullover sweater is a bit pricey, but I love its slightly relaxed fit and a cool texture that provides more visual interest so that your outfit looks more stylish without you having to put in extra effort. (Pieces like that are awesome!) It also feels good and drapes well. Plus, I love this Red Ochre color! It’s available in 4 colors, which you can see HERE. I wear size S.
These jeans are my favorite COMFYYYYYY-as-heck skinny jeans! I’ve owned these for years, and they are sooo soft and stretchy throughout the legs. Plus, they have elastic sewn into the back of the waistband, which creates a VERY STRETCHY waistband for ultimate comfort! Between the soft and stretchy legs and the super stretchy waistband, I often mistake myself for wearing leggings when I’m in these. 😮 (Yeah, I said it!) Check them out HERE! I wear size 4, so size down. If you’re unsure of sizing, remember you can always order multiple sizes to find your best fit and return the one that doesn’t work out for free, thanks to Nordstrom’s free return shipping!
(I bought my jeans a while ago, so hopefully they haven’t changed at all. If they’re not the same, remember you can EASILY return them for free thanks to Nordstrom’s free return shipping!)
2. Simple, Relaxed Crewneck or V-Neck w/ Different Silhouette
This is kind of an alternative to Option 1 above—a simple, seemingly basic sweater that has a slightly different silhouette to give it some visual interest. Instead of having a standard crewneck cut like the previous sweater, this one has an even more relaxed fit and a hi-low hem. I love this sweater so much that I got it in two colors! It is sooo soft and comfy, and it is really lightweight, so it’s easy to wear. This has been my go-to sweater for our random chilly days throughout this earlier part of fall, and I know it’ll continue to be my go-to sweater. It is just so, so comfy and relaxed! It comes in 4 colors, which you can see HERE.
Note: It is super soft, so expect it to fuzz a little and simply plan to use a sweater shaver to make it look new again. Most of my very soft sweaters, sweatshirts, and cardigans fuzz or pill, and a sweater shaver is all you need to take care of it.

3. Cozy Tunic Sweater
Everyone needs a cozy tunic sweater that you can wear with leggings! Having a sweater like this makes it SO easy to put together an easygoing—but stylish—outfit with leggings! Pair them with rain boots for a rainy day, or opt for black suede boots instead. This is a great outfit for any super duper casual activities you have this fall! Wear it to the pumpkin patch, to decorate cookies with kids, or for a low-key gathering with friends.
This sweater is sooo soft, cozy, and lightweight! It has slits down the side to help give it some movement as well as not cling to your hips as much. I have several sweaters like this in my closet that I love to quickly throw on on a dreary day! This comes in 3 colors, HERE. I wear size S which is still pretty oversized on me.
Here, I’m wearing my trusty Zella leggings, which have been a PMT fan favorite for years. They are super flattering with some compression to firm things up and keep them secure. And they have a high, wide waistband that lays flat against you and helps flatten a midsection. If you’re in the market for a pair of leggings, check these out HERE. I wear size M.
P.S. This is another one that will get fuzzy, so again, use a sweater shaver to make it look good again.
4. Sweater with Special Details
For an elevated casual outfit, wear a sweater with special details, which will help upgrade your outfit instantly. This sweater has ribbed texture, a v-neck line, and balloon sleeves which all kick up an outfit several notches. I think this sweater is sooo pretty and makes you look effortlessly stylish! Wear it in a nicer casual outfit to grab coffee or dinner with a friend. It comes in 8 beautiful fall colors, and some of them would be PERFECT for nice Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at home with family! Check out all the colors HERE. I wear size S.
5. Fitted Sweater for Nice Casual Outfits and Work
Last, a fitted sweater is great for nicer casual outfits, and they transition really well to workwear! (Other sweaters we’ve mentioned here can also be worn to work, but I’m just noting that fitted sweaters transition really easily to workwear. 😊) I like that this one is fitted but isn’t too formfitting and you can still do a loose front tuck with it for a nicer casual outfit, but it’s fitted enough that it pairs well with slacks for work and can be tucked into high-waisted trousers. The balloon sleeves are on the slimmer side, adding a nice detail without making a huge statement, and the slightly puffed shoulders is a really cute touch! This is another sweater that is great for elevated casual outfits and would be pretty for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinners, but you can also wear it to work with slacks, statement trousers, and skirts. It’s really versatile! Check it out HERE. I wear size S. (One note is that I find the cuffs a little long, so I actually rolled them up to shorten them.)
