Three Types of Spring Workwear Tops to Add Variety to Your Outfits

Tops to Wear to Work in the Spring

Huge thanks to Nordstrom and ShopStyle Collective for sponsoring this post

Let’s spruce up your spring work wardrobe! Today I’m partnering with Nordstrom and ShopStyle Collective to share some spring workwear tops that will help you add variety to your work outfits. Here’s a reality: having a lot of clothes can still leave you feeling bored with your outfits if you don’t have enough variety. Making sure you have different types of tops will help diversify your wardrobe—without buying loads of clothes. So, I want to talk through three types of tops that will help your spring work wardrobe feel fresh and add variety to work outfits! At the bottom of this post, I’ll round up more options, too!

And, bonus—not only can you create a lot of workwear looks with them, you can also wear them in casual and date outfits! 👏🏽

Nordstrom has a lot of great, versatile pieces that can be dressed up and down, and I’ll talk through of some of the ways you can do that with the pieces today. Nordstrom also has fantastic customer service! They offer free shipping and free return shipping on all orders which means you can order things and try them with peace of mind. You can also order online and utilize their in-store and curbside pickup. You can also earn points on your purchases towards Nordstrom Notes, get access to free alterations, and more if you’re part of the Nordy Club. It’s totally free to sign up! Learn all about it HERE.

Now let’s talk through three types of tops to have in your spring workwear wardrobe!

SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.

1. Striped Tee or Any Neutral Printed Top
First up is a striped tee or any top with neutral prints. In particular, I’ve shared this striped tee with you plenty of times. It’s so versatile that it can be worn through multiple seasons, and it’s a great workwear workhorse for spring! The stripes provide visual interest so that your outfits look more interesting without you having to put in more effort. 👏🏽 (It’s the best when clothes do all the work for you!) But, since the colors are neutral with just black and white, the top is still super versatile and can go with a ton of colors.

This top is SOOOO SOFT and COMFY! It’s very, very stretchy but never loses shape. I like this one for work because it is fitted, so it creates neat, tailored looks. I prefer it fully tucked into high waisted bottoms or just slightly pulled out over jeans. I love that this helps you look polished while being incredibly comfortable! This comes in 11 solid colors and this black and white striped print, which you can see HERE. I wear size M.

Another fitted striped tee option is this pretty Modal Elbow Sleeve Tee. If you’re looking for striped tee options that are a tad looser, you can try this Long Sleeve Scoop Neck Cotton Tee or this Navy and White Stripe Scoop Neck Cotton Tee. I size up to M in the latter two for a looser fit that works well in a relaxed front-tuck.

Pair it with a blazer for a sharp, polished work outfit! If you’re looking for a comfier and slightly more relaxed option, check out the PMT favorite Drape Collar Knit Blazer by Caslon. It’s a HUGE PMT community favorite! It’s soooooo COMFY and feels like a sweatshirt, but it’s fit for work! Find it in black and navy HERE. I wear size S but could also size down to XS. This runs very large.

2. Printed Blouse
Add a printed blouse to mix things up! Just like the striped tee, a printed blouse adds visual interest to outfits without you having to try harder. Other characteristics that differentiate this top from the striped tee are the texture and cut. This top’s texture is smooth and silky, and the cut isn’t as fitted and it has a little more volume at the shoulders. Those things add variety to your wardrobe.

I own this top in several prints because it’s so great for workwear! The silhouette is really versatile, as you can wear any type of necklace with it, you can wear any type of completer piece with it, and you can do a front tuck with it easily, or you can fully tuck it into bottoms. So many options! This one is satin, so it’s silkier than other versions of this top that I own, and the silkiness really kicks it up another level in terms of polish. It looks sharp in work outfits and looks really classy and elevated for a date outfit with jeans. Unfortunately, the exact print I’m wearing above is no longer available, but it comes in several other colors and prints HERE, including plus size options. Also, if you’re looking for a polished basic, I recommend checking out the black satin one, HERE! I wear size S. (If you have followed me for a while and bought this top in other prints, I found the sizing to be a bit different. I wear size M in the non-satin ones but size S in these.)

Other great options for printed workwear tops are this Floral Long Sleeve Blouse, this Yoke Front Popover, this All Over Floral Print Short Sleeve Button Up, and this cute Flutter Sleeve Top. Add some prints to liven up your workwear!

3. Solid Blouse with Special Details
Another great option for work is a top with special details like eyelet, puff shoulders, special sleeves, or interesting necklines, like this grey puff shoulder top. This is very different than the other two types of tops we talked about, and it will really help diversify your outfits! This top is really soft and stretchy, so you’re basically wearing a comfy tee except it looks a lot more dressed up! It can also be dressed down with jeans or dressed up for work. Tops like this are a great, versatile pieces to have in your wardrobe! This one comes in 3 colors. Unfortunately, sizes are limited now, but you can try to snag yours HERE. I wear size S.

I paired it with the STRETCHY, casual work pants that I have shared before with the COMFY elastic waistband! They are now BACK IN STOCK in this color! These pants are great for more casual work settings. Again, you can find them in several colors, HERE.

This CUTE eyelet top is another example of a solid blouse with special details. Its texture and puff shoulders make it more visually interesting than a plain, basic top, so your outfit looks elevate without you having to try harder!

This top is VERY comfy, BTW! It’s is really, really stretchy, so it’s easy to move in. It’s fully lined through the torso, so you don’t need to worry about it being see-through. You can wear this with slacks or chinos to create cute work looks (this would look great with the pants I’m wearing above in the grey version), and you can pair it with jeans for Casual Fridays or to grab lunch with your friends. So versatile! It comes in green as well as black, HERE. I wear size S.

I’m pairing it with dark wash bootcut jeans for a polished outfit that you can wear on a casual day to work, and these jeans are sooooooooooo comfortable! The material is super duper soft and stretchy. Plus, the waistband is elastic, so they are EXTRA comfortable, and that’s why I love them so much! Check them out HERE. I size up to 8 in these for a looser fit around my fuller thighs. If I didn’t have fuller thighs, I think size 6 would be good.

Other examples of tops that fit this description are this cute Lace Inset Puff Sleeve Blouse, this Pintuck Yoke Top, this Mock Neck Long Sleeve Lace Top, and this Thermal Mock Neck Top. These would all step up your outfits without you having to put in more effort! 👏🏽
