So San Diego

I have been waiting to recreate this outfit from Kendi, and it was finally cool enough to.  When my mom saw me in this outfit she said, “Oh, you are SO from San Diego in that yellow!  People here usually wear very dark colors this time of year.”  Said by the woman in bright pink.  Yeah, well.  Haven’t you seen how to take a summer outfit into fall, Mom?  I think wearing completely dark colors through out all of fall and winter is a little depressing, but I also feel weird wearing only bright colors.  You’ve gotta mix it up a little, and I think neutralizing the bright yellow with tweed is a great compromise!  Do you stick to only dark colors this time of year, or are you okay with wearing some color here and there?

Way, way back when I first started reading your blog, you made a comment somewhere about how your Mum wished you dressed better – maybe you just thought that, or maybe she had told you (not sure exactly). Anyway, when I read this entry about her commenting on your yellow top, I chuckled. She must be so proud of your blog & all your created outfits so far!! I also always wear colour somehow even with a darker outfit or season. And I like your outfit!

You look great. I love the yellow top. It's a deal maker. I love the shoes too. However, I think they are a bit too wide for you. I can see inside the shoes from the side (if that makes sense) 🙂

I live in South Carolina… we definitely continue to wear bright-ish colors throughout the winter. And I love wearing yellow or lime green to brighten things up on a dismal grey day.

I'm wearing something VERY similar on Friday, except it's a bright green instead of bright yellow with tweed too- guess I saw the Kendi thing, although I don't remember it!). I like the unexpected pop in the fall and winter 🙂

For about a week after Fall gets here, I'm all "Yay! wool and dark knits" and then I am kind of over it and all I want to wear are bright colors. I love your outfit!

Love this outfit – I think I will need to recreate the recreate too 🙂 I do get excited about wearing more dark colors in the fall for the 1st week and I naturally incorporate colors back into my wardrobe because I miss it so much 🙂

Haha…no, my mom didn't ever wish I dressed better. She wished SHE dressed better and always wants me to help her. But, she did often comment that I wore too many dark colors, which is ironic now since she commented on me wearing yellow!

I will wear any color, any time of year. People think I'm crazy for it, too. But why do colors have to match the weather? Bright colors when it's cold make it cheery!

Very cute outfit! I'm so jealous of the thrifted blazer because it's awesome.

Before having kids my closet was 95% pink. I'm not kidding. I didn't even realized it until my niece, in her late teens at the time, mocked my "Barbie closet". I guess I loved pink.

After I had two girls, I felt silly wearing pink when they themselves were all pinked out. Plus I had all that extra pregnancy weight I started to hide in dark, ugly clothes.

Now, three kids later, I have made the decision to build my wardrobe again, like before. I want to accept my new body and size but it's hard. I would like to wear color but I'm finding myself gravitating towards black a lot. Makes me feel safer. We'll see how long it lasts and how ti feels on the long run.

BTW, I live in Orange County, so, it's not like you see people in black here all the time. Maybe I need to consider moving to New York. :p

Oh yes that's it – you mentioned she thought you wore too many dark colours. Please pardon my misquote because I said I wasn't sure 🙂 Well, keep adding the colour because your outfits are always lovely!

Hehehe I love the thought of you in all pink with your girls all pinked out. For me, if clothes fit well then I'm drawn less to the dark colors because well-fitting clothes make me not feel like I have to hide anything. And I know what you mean–where my mom lives, everyone wears dark colors, but not really here in San Diego! In fact, it seems like most people wear exactly the same kinds of clothes in the summer as they do in December.

Toning down the bright colors with neutrals is such a great way to wear color all year round. Much more fun than wearing black all the time!

I live in Hawaii, so it's pretty much summer year round here… but that doesn't keep me from weather fall-like clothing when the temps drop to the 60's. Yeah, we locals get cold anytime it hits 70! hahahaha. I love darker colors in the fall, but since I'm naturally color crazed when it comes to dressing, I usually inject one colored piece into my look. Best of both worlds. 🙂

You look fab, hun! Glad I came across your blog. Totally a new follower now. :))))

I love color. I agree with you: wearing dark colors during the fall and the winter is a little depressing. So a pop of bright doesn't hurt during the cold months!

I love the pop of color from the yellow especially during the dreary winter. I mostly stick to muted colors, but every once in a while I'll spice it up with some fun color.

Just stumbled across your blog! I've been going back through the old posts, it's so good! My mom just saw it and she's loving it too=) I would love to see a post about outfit options for different types of Christmas parties, ie formal, informal, work, school, friends etc.

I could never give up my brights just because winter shows up – my closet's not big enough, and I'd get seasonal depression in like a week! I love how you wore this to make it appropriate for colder weather… but hey, I'm just the girl wearing white jeans in (almost) December, what do I know? 😉

Love how this looks with your blazer! Perfectly toned down for the season. I want to be more about bright colors this time of year, but I'm finding that everything in my closet that's warm enough seems to be a neutral… Hmmm.

This is so pretty! I love the flowy top under the blazer. I lean toward neutrals in fall and winter, but like to add a bit of color here and there.
