Plaid Blanket Scarf Outfits + 9 Other Awesome Options

In a post last week I said was only able to wear this scarf ONE time after receiving it a year ago because it wasn’t cold enough here.  Since this year winter San Diego actually feels like winter (though it was 74 degrees yesterday…) I’m having fun brainstorming outfits to wear this scarf with.  Gotta get its use while I can!
You can really pair a blanket scarf with nearly any outfit made of solids, and some with simple patterns if you want to pattern mix.  It makes a great focal point for an outfit, and it keeps you nice and toasty.
Whether you have this exact scarf or another plaid scarf made of other colors, here are just a few of many, many outfits you can wear a plaid scarf with!
There are cool ways to tie this scarf that I didn’t do, like as simple as leaving the ends hanging out or as innovative as wearing it open like a shawl over your shoulders and belting it.
For some reason when I leave the ends hanging out, it falls off me.  When I have my hands full with a baby or all of the stuff that travels with a baby (ugh, so much stuff!) it’s annoying to fix my scarf every so often.  If I were baby free I don’t think I’d mind so much, but these days I knot it to keep it in place.
All I did was fold the scarf into a triangle and centered it on my stomach.  I wrapped the ends around my neck, crossing in the back and meeting again at the front, tucked underneath.  I knotted the ends together so that the scarf stayed in place.
Here’s a closer look at the outfits:
1. Plain White Tee
Wear it over a plain white tee, jeans, and any completer piece you want.  I chose a blazer this time, but it’d also look cute with a cargo jacket or a thicker sweater cardigan.

2.  Spruce Up a Dress
A plain dress is begging to be accessorized, so a blanket scarf would be a perfect focal point for one!

3.  With Colors In the Scarf
I wore this exact outfit nearly a year ago in St. Louis–the ONE time last year I was in weather cold enough to wear a blanket around your neck!  I don’t know if it’s just because I love navy and olive together, but I loved the colors in this outfit and how the scarf tied them together since there are some greens and hints of blue.  Reds/maroon and browns/tans would work nicely too.  Whether you have this exact scarf or one with different colors, try incorporating colors from the scarf and use the scarf to tie the outfit together.

4.  Pattern Mix
Mix it up by pairing it with some pattern.  One of the easiest pattern mixes is a neutral palette of stripes.

Like I said, you can wear it with pretty much any solids in your closet.  It doesn’t need to be a blanket scarf, nor does it need to be this pattern or color.  Any plaid scarf will be a cute addition to any outfit with solids or basics!
