One of my favorite closet staples is a relaxed, long cardigan. They’re really versatile and can be worn in super casual outfits with t-shirts and dressed up a little with blouses. They work in a variety of seasons, too, so as we transition from winter to spring, you’ll be able to get lots of use out of these types of cardigans. Today I’m sharing 6 outfits with long cardigans that you can copy, to give you some ideas!
SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.
Jeans + T-Shirt + Sneakers
This is such an easy combo for running errands, hanging out with kids, or low-key days working from home. I’ll often do this with a utility jacket as well, but when I’m at home, I find it easier—and cozier—to wear a cardigan instead.
You can do this with any type of t-shirt, whether it’s a basic white tee like this one, or whether it’s a graphic tee or printed tee.

A big scarf like this is great with leggings, as it’s long enough to provide some coverage in the back. It also has a great, relaxed vibe that goes well with leggings. You can make the outfit pop by bundling up with a printed scarf and let the scarf serve as your focal point. Personally, I have not worn a big scarf in a very long time—it’s seldom cold enough here for one, regardless of whether I cut it in half to reduce the bulk or not. But, I know it’s super cold where a lot of you live, and this is a nice, comfy outfit for staying warm!
With all the bulk on top, make sure to anchor the outfit with tall boots to keep it balanced.

Gotta love an outfit full of good old classics. You can do this outfit with slip-on sneakers or kick it up a tad with booties. It’s a comfy outfit that looks put-together!

Long cardigans work well with blouses, too! Pair one with a blouse, jeans, and flats, wedges, or booties for an elevated casual look.

Here’s another version of the previous outfit formula, just using a different cut of jeans and flats instead of booties. This is a great look for early spring with cropped raw hem jeans and light colored loafers.
These jeans are VERY comfortable! They are super duper stretchy throughout the legs, and they have an elastic strip in the waistband for extra comfort! Find them HERE. I wear size 4, but size 6 also works for a slightly more relaxed fit.

Dress + Cardigan
A long cardigan works great over a dress as well. You can bundle it up for cooler weather with tights and tall boots, or you can wear it with bare legs and ankle boots or flats as the weather warms up.
