Mix and Match: Polka Dot Top

You guys know I love a good mix and match wardrobe.  And do you wanna know one really easy way to create a mix and match wardrobe?  Shopping from one designer’s collection.  Think about it–they design the whole thing to be cohesive, which means less thinking for you because the items are meant to work together!
To illustrate this I’m partnering with Kohl’s to celebrate the launch of a new capsule collection, Elle Style 360.  I love the everyday wearability that Kohl’s has, and that is definitely true of Elle Style 360.  There is a good mix of closet staples and pieces with a little more personality, which is the perfect recipe for a mix and match wardrobe.  I particularly love the various easy-to-wear tops.   (Shown at the bottom of this post.)
Today I’m mixing and matching a polka dot top from Elle Style 360 with other pieces from the collection to show you how easy it would be to build a wardrobe from it.

Outfit 1 – Casual Cool
I used a tip from last week’s mix and match on color choices about regarding pairing colors in similar color clusters and paired this light pink top with a maroon cardigan.  The cardigan is also from the new Elle collection and comes in a few different colors.  For the bottom half, you can use many other colors like navy, black, regular blue denim, or grey, but since I’m way into olive jeans again this season of course it had to be done.  I love how pinks and maroons look with olive anyway.
Makes for a fun casual fall outfit!

Outfit 2 – Comfy Casual
For a comfy and cozy fall look I took bootcut jeans from the Elle line and topped off the whole thing with a cozy cardigan, which is also from the Elle line and comes in black.  Faux leather ankle boots in cognac help anchor the outfit by providing a sturdy texture and more saturated color against the pale top half.

Outfit 3 – Office
Like I said, the Elle collection has a lot of great closet staples to pair with a top like this, so it’s easy to build a mix and match wardrobe.  I created a work look using a pair of chinos and added a cropped cardigan for a light layer in an office setting.  I used a pointy toed flat, as the pointy toe provides a sleeker finish than a round toe ballet flat.  And then of course, my current favorite tote!

Shop Outfit #3:
Top: Kohl’s
Cardigan: Kohl’s
Pants: Kohl’s
Bag: Nordstrom
Shoes: Old Navy

Outfit 4 – Night Out
Finally, for a night out I kept the pieces streamline using a pair of whiskered skinny jeans.  I then went with a black blazer that has a cute pleated detail which adds some femininity to the outfit and keeps it from looking “too” business-y.  To add some sparkle to the outfit I went with a shiny statement necklace and a pump in a luxe berry.

Top: Kohl’s
Blazer: Kohl’s

All in all shopping from the same collection made it really easy to put together outfits.  At the very least it gives you a place to start if you find the sea of clothing in stores to be overwhelming!
Lastly, here are a few more items from the new Elle Style 360 collection.  Go check it out!
