A maroon cardigan has been a staple in my closet for the last couple of years, so today I’m showing you 9 ways you can wear it! I know weather varies wildly right now with my city currently in 80 degree days while some of you are messaging me that you’re in -14 temps. Most of these are styled for colder weather with tall boots and some with scarves to give you inspiration for the rest of the winter ahead. But some of them can also walk you through the transitional period from winter to spring transition, like outfits 4, 5, and 9 with floral prints or lighter tops.
Also, below each outfit, if appropriate, I will give you an idea for how to transition one of the pieces from the outfit into spring. If you’re already thinking about spring, skip to those sections of each outfit!
Generally speaking I like to pair maroon with black, navy, taupe, and white for neutrals. As for color, I really like maroon with mustard yellow! I also like to pair it with similar colors like maroon tops that have prints—the shades of the tops don’t have to match the cardigan exactly, and the prints help break all that up to make it look cohesive. Lastly, I love pairing maroon with blush or light pink. I’ve done it with solid blush tops, but again I find it easier to do with a printed top instead.

The base of this outfit is a black gingham top with black jeans, so I used taupe accessories to “lift” the outfit a little instead of darkening it more with more black. Not that more black would have been “wrong” or “bad,” but you know me–I like to mix neutrals. 🙂

Take this dress from Winter to Spring: This dress is lightweight and long sleeve. In the winter I wear a camisole and HEATTECH layer under it to stay warmer (as described in my post How I Stay Warm in the Winter While Trying to Look Cute) , but not in the spring. In the spring I’d pair this with a denim jacket and white sneakers or a utility vest and booties! Take this top from Winter to Spring: Really, this is a spring top that I happened to style for cooler weather above. It will TOTALLY work for spring! I’ve worn it with jeans + wedges + a mustard yellow cardigan. You can also try white jeans with a denim jacket and nude flats.

This is one of my go-to looks in the fall, and in the winter I add more layers underneath my top and a blanket scarf on top. I love how the white top livens up the maroon cardigan!
