How to Style a Sweater in the Winter and Spring

how to wear sweater in winter and spring

Huge thanks to Nordstrom and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post

Hello, hello! I don’t know about you, but we have a mix of weather over here. One day it seems like spring is in full force, and the next day, it’s chilly again. (Chilly for Southern California standards, anyway. 😜) Today I’m partnering with Nordstrom and ShopStyle to share some ideas for how to style a sweater in the winter and then later in the spring, so that you can extend the use of your sweaters as the seasons transition!

Nordstrom is one of my favorite places to shop because I find so many clothes that just feel great there. Plus, Nordstrom’s customer service is fantastic, which makes the shopping experience really easy. Nordstrom offers free shipping and free return shipping on all orders so you can try things risk-free. You can also order online and use the curbside pickup service. And, if you’re a member of The Nordy Club, you get perks like earning points on your orders and receiving store credit for using their alterations services.  Check out The Nordy Club HERE!

Today I’ll share two cooler-weather looks with a sweater and one that you can wear once the weather starts to transition to spring.

SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.

winter outfit: white turtleneck sweater + black jeans + cognac boots + white handbag

First up is an easy winter outfit with a super soft, cozy sweater and tall boots. This sweater is relaxed and easy to wear while still making you look a little dressed up.  The sleeves have a fun, slightly slouchy vibe with long, ribbed cuffs. And, the sweater’s swingy hem gives it some added style. It’s really, really soft! It’s available in limited sizes in this color HERE and is available in more sizes and colors HERE. I wear size S.

I paired the sweater with black jeans, though blue jeans would be great as well.  These black jeans are fairly stretchy and have a cute exposed button fly (that you can’t see in these pics, unfortunately).

Then, I finished the outfit with tall cognac boots.  I LOVE mixing black and cognac!

winter outfit: white turtleneck sweater + gray peacoat + bootcut jeans + neutral boots + white handbagwinter outfit close up: white turtleneck sweater + gray peacoat + blue jeans + white handbagwinter outfit: white turtleneck sweater + blue jeans + white handbag

Here’s a second cooler weather look using bootcut jeans, booties, and a peacoat. These bootcut jeans are super, super stretchy and comfy!  I love how polished they make outfits look while being insanely comfortable. They are stretchy throughout the leg and also have elastic in the waistband for ultimate comfort.  I wear these in size 8 which fits better around my thighs.  When I tried size 6, they hugged my fuller thighs more, which also shortened the length and made the proportions a bit off.  Other PMT readers stick with their usual size, though.  If you’re unsure, order multiple sizes to try and use Nordstrom’s free return shipping to send back the ones that don’t work. Check them out HERE.

These booties are a great, classic style with a decently low heel. The heel is 2″, but it doesn’t feel that high and feels fairly easy to walk in. The toe is pointed, giving your outfits a sharper, crisper look. One note is that the color looks more brownish on the product site and more like a lighter sandy color in my pictures. In person, the color is kind of between the two.  I really, really like the color in person. They’re also available in black leather. Check them out HERE. I wear size 9.

Last, this peacoat is really comfy and easy to wear. And, it’s super affordable! Sizes and colors are limited, but see if you can snag your size in the beautiful camel color or olive green HERE. I wear size S.

As the weather moves into spring, pair your sweaters with jeans in lighter washes and shoes with a lighter vibe, like loafers.

These raw hem crop jeans are VERY comfy. They are really, really soft, fairly lightweight, and very stretchy through out the leg. They also have elastic in the waistband for extra comfort. I wear size 6. Size 4 fit, but I liked the slightly looser feel of size 6. Check them out HERE.

I hope this helps you get more wear out of some of your sweaters!
