Spring Outfits with Neutral Clothing Pieces

Huge thanks to Gap and ShopStyle Collective for sponsoring this post

Let’s talk about updating your outfits for this spring! Quite a number of you have asked how to incorporate trends, especially when you don’t feel like the current spring colors or styles suit you. There are several ways you can create stylish outfits with neutrals for spring, so today I’m partnering with Gap and ShopStyle to talk through some of them!

One thing I love about Gap is that they carry classics that are updated and elevated with modern characteristics. It’s a perfect mix! Also, Gap offers a variety of sizing, including straight, petite, tall, and plus options. They also have programs towards sustainability efforts, such as making products responsibly with their Washwell program which reduces water usage and waste, making garments with 100% organically grown cotton or 100% recycled polyester which reduces waste.

And right now, Gap has some great pieces to check out, AND you can get up to 60% off + an extra 10% off regular price styles with code GOSHOP until 4/22! Now let’s talk about a few trends you can incorporate this spring!

First of all, outfits full of neutral colored pieces can look great! The key is all about adding visual interest or modern characteristics in other forms besides color, and there are plenty of ways you can do that. Here are a few!

SIZING INFO: I’m 5’6″ and usually wear size S/M or 6.

1. Create a modern look through the silhouettes you choose.
Jeans and a white tank is an awesome, classic combo, but if you want to incorporate some of this season’s trends, swap in jeans that have a modern silhouette, like this pair of kick fit denim. I’ve gotta tell you, I’m digging these jeans!

I like how they add a little more movement and flair than straight leg jeans. The kick fit on this pair isn’t dramatic, rather it’s just enough to add some fun personality to the outfit. Plus, they are comfortable! The denim is fairly soft and they have a good amount of stretch that moves with you. But, the material is thick enough to make you feel secure and held-in. I really like these jeans, so if you’re in the market to try some kick flares, check these out! They come in sizes 23 to 35 and regular, petite, and tall lengths, HERE. I’m wearing size 28/6.

Another example is this classic combo of olive pants and a white tee. This is one of my go-to color combos, but the straight leg pants here provide a fresher silhouette to update the combo.

If you’re looking for a pair of really comfortable, lightweight casual pants for spring and summer, this is definitely one to check out! The material is super soft, and the waistband is fully elastic. Some of you asked for a lighter-weight alternative to the Cloud Light Pants that I’ve shared before, and this is a great option for that! One thing I would note is the pleats. I don’t love them with my curvy hips, but they’re worth trying, especially if you have straighter and/or narrower hips. These come in 5 colors and in sizes 00 to 20. Check them out HERE! I wear size 6. For another straight leg option, you could go for the Straight Up Khakis. Or for a similar pair in a jogger style, try the Ribbed Pull-On Joggers instead.

2. Smocked details (or other springy characteristics).
It’s all in the details, and in the spring, there are lots of characteristics that give pieces a fresh feel, like ruffles, gathered waistlines and necklines, and puff shoulders, and more.

This dress is a great example of a classic piece that is updated with modern details with its smocked bodice, tiered skirt, and slightly ruffled straps. All of those characteristics add up to help this black dress go from boring to adorable! Plus, it’s comfortable, works with a regular bra, and has POCKETS! It comes in sizes XXS to XXL, regular, petite, and tall lengths, and 3 colors, HERE. It is also available in a chambray version HERE. I wear size S.

3. Brown.
Brown has been in the spotlight lately, which is a very easy trend to incorporate if you’re a neutral lover!

This relaxed tank is so simple and classic, but since brown is having a moment, your outfit will subtly look modern and fresh. This tank is a linen blend and is breathable with an easygoing fit. It comes in 6 colors and in sizes XXS to XXL, HERE. I’m wearing size S here but think sizing down to XS would be better as size S is roomy around the bust and torso on me.

As for the jeans, I’ve shown them before, and they have quickly earned their spot in my go-to denim rotation. They are really soft and have a good amount of stretch to them, but they feel supportive and shape up your backside in a flattering way. It’s hard to not love a pair of denim like that! Plus, the wash is great for spring! These come in sizes 24 to 35 and regular, petite, and tall lengths, and they’re available HERE. I wear size 28/6.
