How I Tie My Blanket Scarves [Video Tutorial] + 10 Affordable Blanket Scarf Options

How I Tie My Blanket Scarves

How I Tie My Blanket Scarf

I’ve been asked so many times how I tie my blanket scarves, and while I know there are a million ways to tie a blanket scarf, I only ever do it one way.  Today I’m FINALLY showing you!  You can see how simple it is in this 1-minute video below!

Special Notes:

  • All my blanket scarves are squares, not rectangles.
  • Secure the ends together underneath with a hair tie to keep the scarf in place all day.
  • If blanket scarves are too bulky for you, you can cut square ones into a triangle so that you only have half the fabric.  You would then drape and tie it exactly like I show in the video, just without having to fold it in half first–you’ll be starting with a triangle already.  (I’ve never done this since I buy blanket scarves because I actually want the warmth and bulkiness.  But tons and tons of women in the PMT Challenges group have done it.  Just cut the diagonal–no need to sew up the edge or anything.)

There are a million blanket scarves out there, so here are a few prints and colors I love.  They are all between $9.99-$12.99!  And, if you end up cutting yours in half, you can swap other halves with a friend and double your scarf collection for free!

I own Option 1, a lookalike to Option 5, and a lookalike to Option 9.  The first two are my favorite and most worn scarves, but for a long time I’ve thought about adding Option 3 and Option 10 to my collection someday!

    I have #10 and I LOVE it!
(fair warning, the lighter color is more of a cream than a true white, if that matters to you!)

I bought these as gifts for my mother + SIL last year, and they love them too!

Best. Post. Ever. I am one of THOSE that is just clueless and had no idea how to do it and therefore just left my blanket scarves collecting dust in the closet. I am going to dig them out now! Thank you!

Thanks for doing this! I need to be clever about the way I tie blanket scarves as I’m petite, the hair tie trick is a good one to ensure they stay in place and don’t come undone and swamp me through the day! 🙂

Hope that you are having a good week so far! It’s Australia day today, so a public holiday which is nice, we can get some more family time in!

Well, I will be cutting my way-too-bulky scarf in half as soon as I get home, haha. How come I never would have thought of that??

ohhhhh, tie the ends together with a hair elastic…that’s a great idea! Thank you! I just leave my ends hanging there and they slip off my shoulders and go behind my back a lot. I’ll be trying your technique the next time I wear one of my blanket scarves!

Any tips for styling rectangular scarves? For some reason I only seem to find rectangular ones, not square.
