Holiday Travel Outfit and Coats

I don’t know if you’re traveling anywhere for the holidays, but during this season we travel a ton, both to visit family and due to my job.  Our Thanksgivings are quite eventful as we bounce around between 3 nights of Thanksgiving family dinners plus a birthday celebration for my mom, so for Thanksgiving alone we are on planes and long car rides often.  And eating!  We’re also eating lots and lots very often, because my family’s love language is food.

My favorite travel outfits for this time of year are tightly fitted but stretchy jeans (so that my pants aren’t dragging on the ground in public restrooms–blech!) with looser fitting tops that are easy to move around in.  I need outfits to be fuss-free, especially while traveling.  I always bring a jacket in the car to cover me when I sleep and I especially bring one while flying because I’m usually cold on planes.

A few people have asked me about coats, and while you’d think I wouldn’t own many being in San Diego, I have quite a few.  It can actually get down to the 40s here, plus a chilly ocean breeze!  Also, I travel often to colder places like NorCal, Madison, Chicago, and St. Louis this time of year.

My favorite style is what I refer to as a “Paddington Bear coat,” which in adult terms is really just a toggle coat.  Paddington deserves a shoutout though, you know?  My coats are usually neutral colors like navy and grey, but I absolutely LOVE this deep orange-reddish coat from ModCloth (HERE)!
It totally makes an outfit pop, plus it brightens up the grind that traveling can be sometimes.  The coat itself is sturdy but not stiff.  It comes with a fur-lined hood that is detachable by zipper.  Besides the toggle buttons on the front, the coat has a zipper closure to ensure warmth, plus a few snap buttons to keep the whole coat looking smooth once all is zipped and hooked together.  It has decent sized pockets with cute button details.
I’m normally S/M but have been finding that I’m typically Medium at ModCloth.  For this coat, the Medium was a perfect fit.  And the sides nip in at the waist, giving great definition!
There were a couple of sweaters I wanted to try from ModCloth, and one of them was this beautiful open knit cream sweater (HERE).  On me, the M/L size is a fantastic loose fit.  The loose fit makes it so easy to wear but looks so darn cute!
A few things to be aware of: 1) Reviews commented that it has a weird smell, which is true.  I haven’t washed it yet, so I can’t say how much it’ll go away at the moment.  2) The underlay at the bottom has no stretch.  However, the M/L fits perfectly fine over my larger hips.  3) Because it is an open knit, if you wear this without a long sleeve underneath your arms might feel a slight draft.
Otherwise, this is one of those pieces I’m going to want to wear ALL THE TIME because it’s automatically cute with jeans and boots with a fuss-free loose fit.
It also comes in a pretty pale pink version HERE.

Green Pullover Sweater
There were a couple more pieces I tried which will get full reviews later.  But if you’re searching for pieces and need some info, I LOVE this green sweater (HERE).  I’m normally S/M but am exchanging the Medium for Large.  The Medium fits completely perfectly, but I prefer looser fits which looks much better for layering.  The color is amazing!
Polka Dot Trench Coat
I also tried a polka dot trench coat (HERE) that has great reviews.  Sadly it didn’t work for me!  It was too big in the shoulders and a little too much material in the hips.  I was impressed with the thickness of the coat and was totally hoping it would work out.  Hopefully it might work for some of you!
