For the loooongest time I heard people talk about plain v-neck tees and didn’t understand what the big deal was. I didn’t know what to do with them and thought they were a waste of money. As it turns out you can do a lot with them! Duh. I’m a little slow, mmkay?
There are infinite possibilities for wearing a plain tee, but here are five ways I’ve styled mine. I pulled out general tips from each outfit so that rather than needing to copy an outfit exactly, you can dig through your closet and use the tips to come up with your own unique outfit!
1. Blazer + Jeans + Pumps
This is one of my favorite ways to wear a plain tee, but somehow I don’t do it as often as I’d like to. You can do this formula in so many ways, with all different types/colors of blazers, jeans, and pumps and add different accessories depending on the setting. The look above could work for an office. But I’ve also done this with regular skinny jeans, a black blazer, and pumps for a night out. Just add some blinging bracelets or other jewelry and a clutch and you’re set!
2. Add a pop of color in the shoes
The base of this outfit is again just jeans and the tee, but since that’s pretty plain I wanted to spice it up a little with a nice pop of color in the shoes. I like keeping the jeans neutral like white, blue denim, or black to let the shoes stand out, but you can totally do it with colored jeans AND colored shoes!
3. Accessorize with a patterned scarf
Again, I started with a neutral base–white jeans and a grey tee. Adding a patterned scarf is a very, very, very easy way to pull the outfit together. Adding shoes that had a little more detail helped too, but isn’t necessary.
4. Pair with patterned bottoms
These pants are pretty wild, so a plain tee helped tone them down. However, you don’t have to get SO crazy with the pattern. Pair your plain tee with any patterned bottoms, whether it’s pants, a skirt, or shorts. (The latter two are easier to do patterns with.)
5. Casual with sneakers
You can dress up a plain tee, as described in the first tip, but my inclination was usually to wear them casually. Create a casual look with a plain tee and fresh sneakers!
