Four Ways to Wear a Top for Spring – Work and Casual Activities

Four Ways to Wear a Top for Springtime

4 Ways to Wear a Top for Spring

Huge thanks to Nordstrom and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post

Ready to get more use out of your wardrobe? Today, I’m partnering with Nordstrom and ShopStyle to show you four ways to wear a top for spring and how to style it for work, out to lunch, and casual activities. Gotta love a versatile piece!

Also, all of today’s combos work with lots of different tops, but the top I’m showing today is super versatile thanks to its simple silhouette. It can be paired with a variety of bottoms, as it can be partially tucked into pants or fully tucked into pants and skirts. It comes in 8 prints and 5 solid colors HERE. One note is that it narrows a bit down the torso and especially around the hips. If you have wider hips, try sizing up. I wear size M.

In case you’re new around here, I love shopping at Nordstrom because I find so many super comfortable clothes there. (Yes, including jeans and work pants and jackets!) I also love that it is VERY easy to shop there thanks to Nordstrom offering free shipping and free return shipping on all orders. Ordering online can be tricky, so I appreciate that I can always order multiple sizes with Nordstrom to find my best fit and return for free the ones that don’t work. You can also order online and use the curbside pickup service. And, if you’re a member of The Nordy Club, you get perks, like earning points on your orders and receiving store credit for using their alterations services. Check out The Nordy Club HERE!

SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.

1. Work — Pants + Simple Flats
We’ll start with a work look that I showed recently with these stretchy olive pants. Olive works really well with most colors, so it’s no surprise that it works well with the blue and green in this top. Polish off the outfit with a metallic statement necklace and nude flats.

These pants are super comfy with lots of stretch and a bit of shaping. Plus, they have an elastic strip in the waistband for an extra comfy fit! These pants are GREAT for comfy work looks, and they come in 8 colors. Check them out HERE. I wear size 4—size down; they run large.

2. Work — Statement Pants
You could pair this top with standard black slacks for a sharp work look, or you could switch it up and go for pants in a different silhouette. Here, I’m wearing wide leg pants, which are totally having a moment this season! They are really fun to wear, and they are a refreshing change from standard black pants.

This pair by Open Edit is VERY stretchy and comfy! There is stretch throughout the entire thing, including in the waist. These pants have an extremely high waist, with a 14″ rise. Personally, that is a little too high for me and my shorter torso, but I know that rise is GREAT for many of you. If so, be sure to check out this pair! I really like that the belt is detachable, which allows you to tuck in your top completely and finish it off with a cute bow detail, or you can opt for no belt and wear a top that lays over the waistband instead. These are a tad long on me, so I would get them hemmed to hit a bit above my ankles. (BTW, if you’re part of The Nordy Club, Nordstrom offers free basic alterations for items purchased full-price from Nordstrom!) Add a tailored-looking pair of stretchy pants to your wardrobe! Check out these pants HERE. I wear size S.

Also, if you need an affordable work tote, check out this one! It’s has 4.7 stars and 79 reviews. It’s roomy with a classic style and comes with a removable pouch. It also zips fully closed to keep items secure. It comes in black (HERE) and cognac (HERE).

3. Elevated Casual Jeans + Flats + (Denim Jacket)
Of course, you can pair this top with jeans for a nicer casual outfit. This top would look great with standard dark blue jeans, or you can go for fresh white jeans like I did here. Again, this top is super versatile!

If you need another layer, try a navy or green cardigan, or throw on a denim jacket. If you’ve been around PMT for a while, you know I always talk about the KUT from the Kloth Helena jacket in the color Sweet. It is SO comfy, stretchy, and lightweight. The jacket I’m wearing above is a slightly different jacket by KUT from the Kloth, the Amelia jacket. I really, really like this wash. Some of you found the Helena jacket in Sweet to be a little too faded, and this Amelia jacket is slightly darker with a little more blue, but it is still a light wash. And, it is just as stretchy, comfy, and easy to wear! Check it out HERE. I wear size M.

4. Casual Linen Pants + Sneakers or Sandals + (Denim Jacket)
Last, try pairing a top like this with linen pants! This combo is a great option for a nicer casual look, and it’s great for working from home. It is super similar to the first outfit with olive pants, and you could definitely just wear that. But, I know a lot of you want to wear super casual pants on the bottom and look nice on top at the same time. This type of outfit with a blouse on top and linen pants on the bottom is PERFECT for that!

This pair of Caslon linen joggers became a PMT favorite last summer because they are super comfy! They are lightweight and breathable for warmer weather, and they have a cute jogger style leg. What I also love is that, unlike many other linen joggers, these are NOT scratchy at all! They come in olive, black, navy, grey, and pink. Check them out HERE.
