5 Casual Spring Outfits to Copy from the 2nd Edition Starter Kit Wardrobe Guide!

Five Effortless Casual Outfits for Spring

Five Effortless Casual Outfits for Spring

If you’re looking for some easy spring outfit inspiration, I’m sharing a few ideas that you can copy, straight from the brand new 2nd Edition Spring Casual Starter Kit Wardrobe Guide® that I told you about a few weeks ago. In case you missed it, I just came out with two brand new guides for spring, one for casual style and one for business casual style. They each have fresh designs, mostly fresh outfits, and fresh shopping guides!

I know life is very busy, and while you want to look good, it might be the last thing on your priority list. I get it! Starter Kit Wardrobe Guides® allow you shortcut the work it takes to feel put together by helping you plan, shop for and build an easy-to-use, mix-and-match starter wardrobe and put together the many outfits you can create from it. You’ll have a short, customizable shopping list, expert style tips to pull outfits together, a shopping guide with links so you can just “add to cart,” and a catalog of the outfits you can make with your starter wardrobe. Whether you’re “style-challenged” or just need to refresh your wardrobe, Starter Kit Wardrobe Guides® make the process QUICK and SIMPLE, and you’ll feel confident in your clothes in no time—without the overwhelm.

If you already own a copy of the original spring Starter Kit Wardrobe Guides® and are wondering if these 2nd editions are right for you, you can think of them like 2nd editions of books. The structure and strategy is the same, and some of the content is the same, but there are quite a few new outfits and new looks. So, if you are ready for a little refresh from the original starter kit wardrobe you created, take a peek at the 2nd editions. You’ll be able to see previews of several of the outfits in the product details to see if they’d be right for you. FWIW, the outfits in the casual guide have more similarities to the original guide, while the business casual guide has significantly different looks. However, I still personally find the 2nd Edition casual outfits refreshing, and I’m showing you some of them right now!

SIZING: I’m 5’6″ and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.

Casual Spring Outfit: black t-shirt + black straight leg raw hem Wit & Wisdom jeans + olive utility jacket + tan suede pointed toe flats + cognac tote shoulder bag + leopard print earrings + gold pendant necklace Casual Spring Outfit: black top + black jeans + olive utility jacket + tan suede flats + cognac tote bag + leopard print leather earrings + gold long pendant necklace

1. Neutral Colored Top + Black Jeans + Utility Jacket (optional) + Flats or Sneakers
Gotta love the ease of this outfit. You can choose whatever cut of jeans you prefer, so while the guide shows skinny jeans, here I’m doing the same formula with straight leg jeans instead.

The keys to pulling this outfit together are 1) well-fitting items (which, if you caught my free style class “6 Common Style Mistakes + 3 Keys to Fix Them,” you will know is of utmost importance!), 2) mixing neutrals, such as adding tan flats here instead of black, and 3) accessorizing to pull it all together.

These jeans are no longer available, as they were a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale item from 2021 that never got restocked. 😭 They, along with the other blue straight leg jeans that didn’t get restocked (shown in the next outfit below), are my two favorite pairs of jeans from that sale. Of course, they’re both from Wit & Wisdom, which is my favorite brand for extremely comfortable jeans! Anyway, hoping they come back again this year.

The tee is the Banana Republic Factory Timeless Roll-Sleeve T-Shirt that I reviewed recently (HERE). This tee is SOOOOO SOFT and COMFORTABLE, and it just looks higher quality and more stylish than a typical tee. Since the fit is more relaxed through the torso, it may appear boxy at first, but the great drape keeps it from looking super boxy once it’s on—plus a front tuck. That always helps define a waist. Note that the length is slightly shorter than average. It comes in 7 colors, including neutrals and fun, bright colors for spring! See them HERE. I wear size S. And BTW you can get free shipping on orders $50+ & free return shipping on all orders at Banana Republic Factory if you’re signed up for that same rewards program that allows you to get free shipping & free return shipping at Old Navy. No need to sign up for anything again. Just login like you would at Old Navy!

2. Solid Colored Top + Jeans + Flats
This is another easy casual spring outfit, with a solid colored top and jeans. Again, you can use any cut of jeans you like, and again I’m wearing straight leg jeans. You can also wear any colored top you want!

I bought this sweater last year, and it’ll be back in my rotation again this spring. It’s not the softest or coziest thing ever. It’s a sweater, but it’s not super thick. So, I like this option as something that is thicker than a t-shirt and slightly dressier but not as dressy as a blouse. It has a decent drape, so it works well in a front tuck, and it comes in 19 colors. Check them all out HERE. I wear size M.

3. Printed Top + Jeans + Cardigan + Flats
Here’s an outfit inspired by one from the guide. The top is not the exact “Printed Top” shown in the guide, but I’ve said before that the shopping list is customizable in the sense that you don’t need to use pieces with the same color, shape, or details as the example pictures. You can choose according to your tastes, instead. In other words, you can go with a lot of other “Printed Tops” and plug it into the outfit formula and have a working outfit. Examples of plugging in other printed tops, all using the same jeans, cardigan, and flats, but plugging in different “Printed Tops”:

Love how easy it is to do this! (Also, you can do the same plug-and-wear thing with the outfit formulas inside the Wardrobe Staples Styler!)

Casual Outfit for Spring: black and white striped tee + black leggings + light wash denim jacket + black sneakers + cognac tan tote + white earrings

4. Leggings + Printed T-Shirt + Denim Jacket (optional) + Black Sneakers
This is a longtime favorite outfit formula, and it’s so easy! BTW, in the Casual Starter Kit Wardrobe Guides®, you learn to build a wardrobe with three levels: Athleisure/Weekend, Everyday Casual (similar to the outfits above), and Dressy Casual (for lunch with friends or dates, etc.). Your starter kit wardrobe will accomplish a LOT of looks with just a few pieces!

This tee is another one of my favorites from last year. I’ve been less into the classic/preppy striped tees, but I still love a striped tee. Nowadays I just prefer one like this with a more vintage vibe. This one is lightweight, soft, and comfy. You can find it HERE (including plus sizes). I wear size S.

This denim jacket is also my favorite super stretchy and lightweight option by KUT From The Kloth. This exact one is no longer available, but THIS other version is identical in feel and just a little lighter of a wash in person. I wear size M.

5. Dress + Denim Jacket (optional) + Flats
Last is a comfy dress! You can pair it with flats for a cute casual look, like the one above. You can also dress it down even more with slip-on sneakers or dress it up with wedges. (Which are both also shown in the Spring Casual Starter Kit Wardrobe Guide®️.) Versatility is great, isn’t it?

This dress is one of my favorite purchases from 2021. It’s comfy, and it’s thicker than other t-shirt-type dresses. It feels more like a thicker slub tee, so it’s not slinky, rather it holds shape better. Plus it actually has some shape thanks to the empire waist and tiers. Also, it has POCKETS! And yes, I STILL get excited about dresses and skirts that have pockets. It just never gets old. 😆 I own this in both black and olive, and it comes in 6 colors and 2 prints. And they’re under $27! Check them out HERE. I’m wearing size S.
