I spent this weekend in New York state at a friend’s
wedding, and as I write this I’m on a plane heading back from New York to a
work retreat. The wedding was in a cute
town 20 minutes outside of Ithaca, and it was a beautiful outdoor wedding by a
lake, despite the 46 degree weather. So,
came the age old question: What do you wear to an outdoor fall wedding?

Truth be told, I had no idea. Even though I’ve been to a bajillion weddings
most of them were in California with very different weather and a more
laid-back style overall. Fall wedding on
the east coast? Errrr…?

That’s how I ended up writing that post on fall dresses last week–I was looking for ideas for types of dresses one could wear to a fall
wedding. A REAL fall wedding. Not the “it’s November and 70 degrees” kinda
fall weddings we do here in SoCal. I was
looking for darker colors like maroon, forest green, or jewel tones, and
dresses in a thicker material with more structure. Somehow I struck gold at Target when a ¾
sleeve maroon lace dress caught my eye!

The first look is how I wanted to wear it because I’m
partial to tan accessories, but 46 degrees is a little cold for this California
girl to brave bare legs. The second look
with fleece lined tights and a coat is what I ended up wearing. I couldn’t believe that I was actually warm
enough, and I was so glad that I could focus on the ceremony instead of
focusing on trying to stay warm!
