Dresses In the Rain

I put to use one of my go-to fall outfit formulas on a kind of rainy day last week.  Dresses and the rain?  Sounds like a bad idea, and I used to think so too, but it’s kind of becoming my secret weapon on rainy days.  I’m not sure why, but on rainy days I’d rather wear a knee-length dress with boots.  (Definitely not a maxi dress, though.)  I think it’s because whether I’m wearing jeans or a dress, I will wear boots, which is already awesome in fearlessly plowing through puddles.  But there’s something about not having to worry about soggy jeans sticking to your legs and taking forever to dry that makes me feel even more carefree.  Somehow it works in my mind!  Would you wear dresses in the rain?

I Love dresses or skirts on rainy days for that exact reason. I hate wet pants! I also think you get that lift from being cute on a crappy day!

I agree – definitely better for staying dry. Boots are a must, and if your knees get wet, tights dry much faster than jeans! Plus you just need something that makes you feel pretty when the weather is crummy.

I would totally wear a dress in the rain and I would style it just like you did, with tights, boots and a cardigan, ensuring that i stay warm.

Dresses and welly boots – or if it's warm enough, shorts – totally work!!! I have a pair of bright yellow wellies for that exact reason!

Completely agree! Why drag your jeans through the mud when you can still look cute and dry?

Yes, I am the same way! I don't have to worry about puddles or anything like that- nothing worse than sitting in wet clothes all day!

I totally agree with you! When it's raining in the morning on a weekday I will put on a pencil skirt and boots for going to work. It's so much better than wet pants!

You look so cute here, I love how you "winterized" such a happy summery dress! It looks great!

I absolutely HATE soggy pants on a rainy day. I love rainy days, but soggy pants are out. My feet are always cold and soggy pant cuffs do not at all help! I love the dress outfit! I might had to work that with some boots next time it rains!

YES! I prefer dresses or caparison for rainy days because there is nothing more miserable than having soggy hems all day. Love your sunshiney dress. 🙂

I would definitely wear (and have worn) dressed in the rain. For the same reason as you are, I feel a little bit more fearless because I'll have boots on and not worry about those awful soggy pants!

    Another great outfit!

Dresses in the rain really does work. You'll stand out in the crowd with your lovely dress colour, and your legs stay warm & dry in your tights and boots. Very fashion sensible. Careful though, your girlfriends will soon catch on and copy your cute outfit!

Years of living in England taught me that skirts/dresses and boots are the only thing to wear in the rain. Feet stay dry, fabric tends to dry more quickly, and you still feel fairly put together, even in a torrential downpour!
