This holiday season I’m doing a Holiday Style Series to give you ideas for what to wear to all those holiday gatherings. Today we’re talking cocktail parties or fancier events! I’m doing this on the earlier end of the holidays because whereas you can probably pull together something from your closet for a casual friends gathering, those special occasion events often need the most planning and forethought. Whether it’s an office party, a holiday concert, or Christmas Eve service, hopefully this post will give you ideas for what to wear!
It can be difficult to figure out what to wear to fancy parties, but doing it in the winter can be extra, extra hard since you need to stay warm and layer those pretty dresses! Today I’m partnering again with ModCloth because they have TONS of dresses which gives you lots of options for your layering needs. Also, ModCloth is running 30% off until the end of today, Tuesday 11/28! You can get a gorgeous dress at a steal!
Lace Dress in a Holiday Color
I’ve said before that lace is incredibly versatile and works well in multiple seasons. A lace dress like this is my go-to type of dress especially in the fall and winter, and a darker green color like this lends itself to the holidays in a sophisticated way. This also comes in silver, which is another gorgeous and sophisticated holiday color. The silver one is also only $39.99 HERE! (WHAAAAAT??) I went with my go-to combo for winterizing cocktail dresses, which is black fleece-lined tights with black booties or pumps (pumps in this case, which you can hardly tell!), and a black moto jacket. You could do a black blazer for a sharper look.
There is gorgeous detailing on this dress with a fringe neckline and hem, plus it’s fully lined. Also, it’s reallyyyyy comfortable! I own 4 lace dresses from all different stores (I told you they’re my go-to) and all 3 of my other ones are a little stiffer. They’re not necessarily uncomfortable, but this ModCloth one happens to be extra comfortable. It’s really soft, not stiff at all, and moves so well. With it being 30% off it’s such a good deal for the detail and comfort that you’re getting. But, the silver one is on CRAZY MAJOR SALE! I have no idea why, but holy cow, you need to jump on that if you need a holiday dress!

Dresses with Sparkle, Shine, or Embroidery
A little bit of sheen, shine, or sparkle always feels festive and dressier, and you can do it in a classy way! This dress has beautiful gold embroidery over a navy underlay. I’ll be honest that it’s slightly itchy, especially when compared to how stinking comfortable the green/silver one above is, but this one is really sophisticated and pretty! You could probably double it up for a New Year’s Eve look if you wanted to as well.
I showed this with a cropped cardigan and bare legs and finished off the look with sparkly gold peep toe heels. You could do this look with black tights, navy tights, or just nude ones if you can’t do bare legs where you live. Also, BTW, these heels are surprisingly comfortable! I thought the toe box was going to be stiff, but it turns out it’s soft and flexible. These would also be great for a fancy NYE look after the Christmas season! See them HERE and remember they’re 30% off.
