Choosing Colors In an Outfit

You know those outfits you have in your head that you cannot wait to wear?  This was one of them for me, and I was so excited to finally wear it to church a couple of Sundays ago.  It doesn’t matter if it’s particularly stylish or not.  Sometimes you just connect with an outfit, and it’s amazing what can happen to your attitude and confidence when you put it on!  With this outfit, it was hard to not feel a little burst of joy whenever I looked down and saw so much color!

Sometimes I get asked about how to choose colors in an outfit.  I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again because this top is a fantastic example (and a top I’d highly recommend!)  When building an outfit, I often start with one piece I want to wear, which was the top in this case.  I’ll pick a color from the top, whether exact or just similar, and use it in other places in the outfit.  There were purple/magenta shades in the top, so I paired the top with a skirt in similar colors.  For shoes and accessories, my tendency is towards tans and browns as a neutral, but in this case, knowing I had purpley-grey pumps, I thought it’d be fun to continue the purple theme with them.  Since there’s red, green, and white in the top, you could just as easily pair this top with items in those color families for a cohesive look!
