Business Casual Staple Two Ways

In Part 2 of Building a Remixable Wardrobe, I talk about checking the versatility of new tops by seeing if they’ll go with your staples for casual, work, and dressy outfits.  I wasn’t into khakis, especially because I had really old stigmas about them feeling outdated, but once I found this pair at Old Navy last year they became my casual business casual staple.  (A navy pencil skirt would be my other work staple, but I like these khakis for even more casual work looks.)

These are actually considered tan jeans (Old Navy Mid Rise Rockstar skinnies) but trousers this color would be just as great.  You can see the ways I’ve worn mine in the past HERE.  They’re unavailable now, but I found a trouser option HERE and a more casual chinos option HERE.

*Update: Someone brought it to my attention that these pants are back!  See them HERE.

For today’s look I paired them with the floral top that I loved from the Nordstrom Sale (also seen HERE) for a work meeting at a coffee shop.  I was originally going to pair the floral top + khaki combo with a blazer, but I knew my meeting was going to be super duper casual, and even wearing khaki jeans and a blouse wasn’t necessary, let alone wearing pumps.  Instead, I dressed it down even more with a denim jacket and kept the pumps.  ðŸ˜‰

Here’s my original outfit idea.  Same outfit base, just different shoes and completer pieces.

Not only slightly more “business” but also perhaps more fall-friendly.  ðŸ™‚  Anyway, I don’t think I’ll ever stop being amazed at how much swapping a completer piece can change an outfit!
