An Honest Thank You

Can I just tell you that I’m so grateful for all of you?  I know how much time it takes to comment on blogs and I seriously appreciate it every time any of you takes the time to say a quick encouraging thing.  And I’ll be honest, I needed them badly yesterday.  I discovered some people on another site basically saying my style is not chic enough and rather dowdy, like in a kind of emphatic and unnecessary way, as if I had offended them with my style or something.  And whether or not it’s true (because those are opinions that are relative) and though it comes with the territory, it still hurts to see it.  On good days I can shake it off easily because I know that I’m not trying to be super chic.  I just want to look put together in a normal way.  But when you have a style blog people’s expectations get different and they are quicker to judge you for not looking like you belong in a magazine.  On days when it’s harder for me to shake it off (read: hormonal days) I go back to your guys’ emails and comments and things you wrote on that survey to help me continue being me and to keep putting myself out there.  And one of the best things you can do for a person is to help them feel good about themselves, so thank you guys, really.  Really really.
This outfit will probably not help those people’s opinions about my style not being chic enough, but I wore it and I was comfortable.  So whatever.  ๐Ÿ™‚

No, thank you! A friend recently complimented me on my style and my ability to "put things together". I told her that I owed it all to you and your blog- you have taught me so much about layering pieces and accessorizing. You are practical and an inspiration to put a little more effort in for a great result! Keep it up!

The reason I follow your style blog as opposed to others is because I would actually wear most of the outfits you create. High fashion is just not my gig as a stay-at-home mother of 2. I like that your style is modest and totally translates into the real world without looking sort of out of place ๐Ÿ™‚

It saddens me to think that anyone would speak ill of you or your style; the whole point of having a style is that it's subjective and relevant to each individual's life and personality. I really appreciate that you post casual and work appropriate outfits that are inspiring and easy to put together with staples that every girl has in her closet. Your style is much more approachable than many style blogs which pander to retailers to get free clothes, or are so edgy and right off the runway that they don't connect with me and are usually completely unaffordable. Not to mention you take the time to not only post where you bought your items, but where I can get similar ones, in different price ranges. Haters to the left, Audrey; I think you're amazing. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have found your blog enormously helpful, as I'm sure many, many others have too. Yours is the only style blog I pay any real attention to because you are put together and stylish but also dress in a way that is realistic for most "normal" ladies. Blogs that routinely feature super tight/uncomfortable/expensive/trendy pieces can be interesting to read, but yours is the only one that actually adds real value to my life because it shows me how to dress in a practical, stylish, flattering way. So thank you, I am a big fan ๐Ÿ™‚

Audrey, you have great style and one thing we as bloggers will never be able to do is – Please Everyone! Impossible!
I have accidentally come across a site too that just basically is a hater site for bloggers (and I'm guessing youtubers too). I was shocked and down at first, but then I realized all I can do is feel sorry for those women. Their lives must be sad and miserable. Jealousy makes people nasty. If they were not jealous of your style and success as a blogger, why would they take time out of their day to write mean things? What other explanation is there!?!
Ignore the haters! If they're hating than you must be doing something right ๐Ÿ™‚ Keep up the great outfits coming!

I'm so sorry, that's super lame. Generally when others feel like they need to put someone else down, they are struggling with jealousy or other personal negative issues. Its too bad that they felt like they needed to be so public about it. Blogs are all about opinions, for the writer and readers. If you don't like someone's blog, why read it? YOU are appreciated for your style and what you do, by many people! So thank YOU!

Your style blog is the first one I have followed. I don't feel the need right now to follow any others for a few reasons. 1. I am a sahm so I don't have lots of money, time or need to be super stylish. 2. I feel your style is achievable. I could afford pieces like you wear and have places to wear them. Lastly you seem like a good person who would never turn her nose up at me if you saw me on the street with my unwashed hair and sweat pants just trying to grocery shop before my kid has a melt down. It's amazing how easy it is to be mean/snarky/offensive behind the anonymity of the internet. We style bloggers range far and wide in complexity/fashion forwardness/style/preferences that there really is no room to put down anyone's style. We're all as different as our DNA. Whoever it was, don't listen. I have a handful of bloggers in my "MUST READ DAILY" section of my RSS reader and your blog is one of them. I find that your style is approachable and when I'm inspired by an outfit you've worn it's accessible – I can recreate something similar because you wear items and styles that many of us probably own. What I love about your blog is that it's clothes that normal people would actually wear, and you take the time to research alternatives that are similar, and you discuss how to put REAL outfits together. Yesterday one of the blogs I read featured this women in a pink and orange checked shirt with a bright flowered skirt and a giant belt and boots and various accessories. And I thought, OK, interesting, and I guess stylish, but I would never ever dress like that. I appreciate your honesty and your advice about how to make the wardrobes we have work for us in real-life settings.

One of the things I love about your style, and why I subscribe to your blog (in Feedly, which is why I don't always comment) is that it's wearable for regular people. You show us how to put "trendy" things in a more wearable perspective, especially for those of us who may not really want to look like the proverbial trend salad.

I appreciate it, and I know lots of others do too. (And I especially love that your climate is warmer, because so many of your things are wearable nearly year-round in Houston. I cannot with the tights and coats and stuff ninety percent of the time.)

I love your blog because the stuff you post is completely wearable. It is the only style blog that comes SO close to my usual style. You just give me ideas for how to use what I have! I have been following your blog for awhile (I'm also in San Diego) but have not commented before. I blog, too, and although my blog is not a style blog per se, I do post photos of myself at times. I also found some negative comments about me on a web forum and found it quite hurtful. I had to remind myself that no matter who you are or how you dress, there will be people out there who won't like it.

Also, a lot of people in other parts of the country and world don't understand the way people in San Diego dress. The way you dress (and the way I dress for that matter) is pretty dressy for this area, although people in other parts of the world will consider it too casual. I actually love the way you dress and I've saved some of your photos to my folder of looks I want to copy. I'm probably 20 years older than you, but I would still wear many of your looks.

You're beautiful and very stylish and I love your blog! Keep up the great work you do and try to forget about the naysayers. Another blogger pointed something out when I had my issues a month or so back. She said that I would likely get new readers as a result of the negative comments. While the naysayers are criticizing, others will click over to my site and love what I have to say (and maybe even my outfits, too). I'm sure the same is true for you! Focus on the positive and all of us who love your blog and push the "negative Nancys" aside!

Audrey-don't concern yourself with a few negative comments. I feel if you only reach one person in a positive way then you are a success. I check your blog everyday and I can honestly say that your blog has taught me more about how to "put myself together" with a reasonable budget and realistic pieces than any other site I've visited. High fashion with through the roof price tags is not where I am at this point in my life. I appreciate the comfortable, friendly environment that you and other readers provide and the positive, dignified way people conduct themselves here. Keep up the awesome job you do!

I have always LOVED your style. It's practical and down-to-earth, but still pretty, colorful, and always stylish. I would never ever describe your style as dowdy, and the only reason why I can think anyone would say such a thing is that you aren't constantly done up in mini-skirts, pencil skirts, short dresses, bandeau tops, sky-high platform heels, and other, perhaps more "edgy", things I have seen other fashion bloggers wear. Not to knock on their style, because they also look fantastic, but that certainly doesn't make you dowdy! You are my favorite style blog because the things you wear are the things I see myself wearing in real life and still being completely stylish. You rock! Don't let the opinions of the few get you down. You can just see from the vast, vast majority of comments about you that we love your style!

I've never commented on your blog before, but after this post, I just needed to.
First, I think your style IS chic.
Second, I can't tell you how much I appreciate that you wear clothes that normal people can actually wear. I love that you don't wear unrealistically expensive and unusual clothes, because almost no one truly feels comfortable in those OR can afford them. You always look gorgeous and stylish but still completely real and never, ever dowdy.

Thank you for taking the time to maintain this blog to help others out even though some people are obnoxious. (And, dare I say, jealous?) Go eat some ice cream and tell them to suck it.

I appreciate the style ideas and it takes a lot for anyone to put themselves out there to be judged. Please ignore the negativity you receive from a few people. Oh honey, I am so sorry. Them saying your style is not their style is one thing, but saying it emphatically as if you've offended them was just plain mean. Just know that you have a readership that actually likes the fact that you aren't trying to look like you belong in a magazine! Yours is the first style blog I ever actually started following, because your style is so attainable for "normal people" to look put-together and you have had a huge impact on my style. I love looking through magazines for style ideas, but the truth is that super chic stuff is always crazy expensive and not always crazy comfortable. I've bought things that are pretty yet uncomfortable, and I end up feeling awkward and self conscious wearing it so I only wear it a couple of times. What a waste! Trendy yet comfortable is what I look for and I think you do it well. ๐Ÿ™‚

I am soooSOSOOSOsoooooooo!! sorry you took the bullet for "us". I am new to these blogs as I've been a stay at home Mom forEVER and literally owned NOTHING to wear under 2 dozen items counting tee shirts, 1 pair of jeans, two skirts and 3 pair of shorts). I hated going out because I didn't have anything to wear.

I have stopped following those blogs (even though they are how I found yours) because I was overindulging and trying to assimilate to their lifestyles.

They may be louder (the snooty totties) but they are NOT the majority. (If they were how do you think Target, Kohls, Sears and Penneys would still be in business?)

You go Girl, you are it for me (other than GCOGH) which you also led me to. I finally feel good about myself because I have a wardrobe I can look forward to getting up in the morning. I went out and bought a light for my closet after 3 1/2 years of not having one (why bother is there's nothing in there worth seeing. . . besides I always wore the same items together – never ever mixed them and thus the reason I HATED SHOPPING!! (Amazing how much more focused my shopping has been as I started the first wardrobe capsule with what I thought was a good idea and no idea how to do it and returned virtually everything as a result). I have made not one but am working on the second (for a cruise) wardrobe capsule because of your site.

Don't leave us!! Thanks for sticking in there for the soft voice of the majority.

Audrey, your blog was the first style blog I started to read. I then started reading more and more (most of which I found through you). If it wasn't for your style I would never have found the world of fashion blogging. I would still be pouring through fashion magazines that don't reflect my lifestyle and we all know how those magz can make one feel really bad about oneself and ones lifestyle. Thanks to you I now see women and fashion I can relate to on a daily basis. Now, more or less a year later, I have my own little blog. If my style can help just one person half as much as your has helped me I'd consider it to be super chic!

Screw them. I'm not the most chic when it comes to fashion (should've seen what I wore in college) but there's a difference between trendy and timeless. Some stuff they put in fashion magazines looks like a hungover New York designer threw up on them. You are adventurous with your style, yet accessible, and you put it all together from stores that are affordable. I like knowing that if you're wearing it, I can probably find it (or something like it) only miles away from home.

This is not even including the fact that you are abso-freaking-lutely adorable.

Reading negative stuff about yourself online always sucks, and um… you have like tons and tons of readers and your pictures are all over Pinterest so with widespread exposure comes more people with opinions. I think your blog is great, and you have such a warm personality that shows through your writing. Sure, your style isn't like, high fashion chic with Celine bags and Valentino pumps, but it's very everyday woman chic, and a style that a lot of people (myself included) can use to draw inspiration and ideas from.

I know we chatted before re: internet criticism and so sorry if this is a repeat of what I said before, but these people are drawing conclusions based on glancing at your blog or their personal notions of what a "fashion blog" should be, and it's not an attack on YOU or your character. Things they said are probably just a passing observation and you shouldn't let someone's offhand comment affect you too much!

Just so you know – I have always been considered a generally stylish person by my friends, but your blog has helped me figure out how to achieve that super-put-together look that turns an every -day fun, matching outfit into an every-day, coordinated, stylish ensemble, rather than just looking stylish for certain events and then looking like a "mom" the rest of the time. I think the reason your blog is so popular and helpful is because you are able to analyze style and fashion at any level and translate into an every-day, "normal", but chic look, NOT a fashion magazine-slash-totally-impractical look. Your advice is really practical, and as a mom of two little boys, my style HAS to be practical. Sooooo THANK YOU! No other fashion blog has ever helped me like yours, and I feel so put together now with just a little extra accessorizing with belts and necklaces and the idea of working with a wardrobe color palette. Seriously, you have made sense of WHY things work, and I feel like I have a new understanding of my old (existing) wardrobe. All because of you!!!! Thank you! Keep being you! ๐Ÿ™‚

Same thing with tops over dresses, tying shirts, partial tucking, belting tops, how tops should fit (I'm short and had totally been wearing them too long but I didn't realize it was unflattering), etc. etc. etc. So yeah, clearly I LOVE your blog and you have taught me so much! I'm so glad your voice is out here! I read a few fashion blogs (you turned me on to Kendi Everyday, so thank you!) but you are one of my favorites because your style is the closest to mine. I feel super encouraged by you showing what you are wearing, how you style different pieces in your closet, and the fact that most of your clothes are in my price range. Plus I LOVE your recommendations (it won't be long until I make my first Conversation Pieces purchase, I promise you). You are doing GREAT, Audrey. Thanks so much for sharing your life, your heart, and your ideas with us!

Your blog is the only one that I can take seriously because it is realistic. I want to look put together too, not overstyled. Your clothes fit my budget, there's nothing worse than looking at a blog and falling in love with a top only to find out it costs $90! Other blogs are fun to look at, but I would never actually dress like that because I would look ridiculous. You have done so much for my confidence, keep up the good work!

I'm another long time follower of your blog and a first time commenter. Your blog is my favorite on the web because you are real! You keep life in perspective — shopping and fashion are both fun, but there is so much more to life than the clothes that you wear. You inspire me to experiment with my closet and remind me that I don't need to drop gobs of money on expensive clothing — target and forever 21 sell plenty of staples that you can dress up and still look polished. I love your blog and admire your attitude. Keep on smiling, Audrey! Sending you a big hug.

First time commenter because I have to let you know that I follow your blog because you give the best content for how to create a wardrobe (and as a bonus with clothing that I would actually wear!). I've only been following for about a year or so but I have you to thank for helping me to find my fantastic striped shirt from Shade Clothing, two of my favorite skirts and adorable yellow flats from Target, and that I even tried (and loved!) wearing a mustard colored cardigan. Your series on fit and clothing alterations was extremely helpful and so well done! I also love when you pick a piece of clothing and show all the different ways it can be worn. I've been following fashion blogs for years but yours is my favorite and the one I always recommend to friends.

I appreciate that there are women out there who stick with the real and the normal. It's not atlantic pacific but it's not supposed to be. You are helping show real women how to look put together in their real lives, whether they are just starting their jobs, transitioning, being a stay at home mom, whatever. that, and on a real budget. if people expect something other than that from a blog such as yours, there are many fake fashion blogs we can point them to.

    Hi Audrey!
I don't usually comment on anything because I figure who cares what I have to say, but I just read this post and felt compelled to write. I've just recently discovered style blogs and things like Bloglovin. I have a 2 yr old and since the birth I've struggled with some really difficult health issues that include severe chronic pain and fatigue. I barely have the strength to care for my child how I'd envisioned. When I was pregnant I had these utopian dreams of running & playing in the park with my baby, going to carnivals, farmers markets, museums, etc. all while looking fabulous. My reality turned out to be something quite different and I am barely able to be active which has caused weight gain and feeling quite down on myself. Ultimately, I've let myself go big time. I can't even remember the last time I went shopping or felt excited about outfits and getting dressed up. That's what led me to search for outfits online and, long story short, I found style blogs. I've browsed a lot of blogs and believe me when I tell you that yours is one of my favorites. You're style is pretty, colorful and modern without being too complicated. You're a working mom so I feel like you're in tune to the challenges of young modern moms (time, money, a balance of youthful sexiness and modest motherhood). I really appreciate your blog because it's obviously done out of passion. Let's get real…after work, wifehood and motherhood nothing extracurricular really gets done unless it's driven by passion and dedication. So I just wanted to say that because people are so judgemental and it's dissapointing. Just wanted to let you know that your one of my fave style inspirations. I haven't actually felt well enough or had the strength or motivation to put together outfits how I wishI I could. But if someday this illness goes away and I finally feel ready to get back in the stylish life, you're the girl I'll be turning to for inspiration.

I'm not a big commenter on blogs anymore, but I wanted to comment on this entry that the main reason I read your blog is because you dress like a normal person with a normal job (like most of us). Not to knock any bigger blogs but some of the style is just so out there that I can't relate and have no interest in following anymore; unfortunately, not everyone can afford a super extensive closet with all of the latest trends. Your blog is relatable, and you're not shilling products and sponsored posts every day, which is also another why I follow. I'm assuming the site you read is GOMI, which I do read; however, I wouldn't take anything to heart. A lot of the criticism on the site is constructive, but, unfortunately, a lot of it is just catty. Just because you choose to dress a certain way as apposed to $500 dresses and "hooker heels" doesn't mean you're not fashionable.

So one of my very best friends from youth group days texted me recently and said "hey, I saw on your instagram that you're kind of friends with this girl Aubrey and I finally put two and two together and realized she's the one with the blog I've been drooling over. OK, I have now spent an entire 30 seconds on your blog, and can already say with certainty that you are fabulous. Are you fabulous in that super artificial, "looks like barbie and won't check her mail without a full face of makeup, and jogs in high heels" kind of way? Nope. And thank goodness – the internet has enough of that silliness. Instead, you're most definitely like that girl we all want to be friends with because even though she's a total knock-out, she's still willing to get all dusty walking through the fairgrounds with you in the summer. Or eat melty ice cream in a white shirt. So I'll definitely be coming back to see more of you. ๐Ÿ™‚

Audrey, Thank you for taking the time out to "put yourself together" in a way that inspires and encourages those that read your blog to put themselves together. For me, this blog is more than just effortless and attainable cute outfits. Your blog represents that it is important to be grateful for what we have, be good stewards of what we are given, and take the time and effort to look polished and our best, because these things make us feel our best. Your thoughtful conversation inspires me. I think you are super chic, and, more importantly, a super chick!

Audrey – you are doing a great job out here in the blogging world and don't let those haters bring you down! It's too bad there are a few bad apples out there making this blogging community negative. I have only been blogging for a year and do not have the exposure as you do so I have not had any backlash yet but I know it would hurt even though it shouldn't matter. We need to keep this blogging community positive and supportive! Keep doing what you are doing!

Audrey, I don't comment on blogs very often, but I wanted to drop in and give YOU a thank you! I'm returning from the mission field in a few months, and I've been trying to figure out how to update my America wardrobe on a budget to account for all the changes I'll be facing when I return: new fashions (from 2 years ago and totally different from the clothes that I wear where I currently live), new jobs, new mom (when I left America, I had no kids; I'll have 2 when I return!), new city, etc. Your blog has been super helpful to me as I consider how to look put together and how to be a good steward of my resources. I think your style is very cute and very doable! Thanks for sharing.

Audrey, what I love about you is you are so realistic when it comes to fashion. Yes, high fashion is wonderful and unique and artistic, but you make it fun for us 'normal' people, and you do it with just as much creativity and effort. I would never ever wear some of the things some 'fashion bloggers' wear.. sometimes it's like they think "let me find everything that does not match and put it together to be fashionable'. What I like about you is I can really see myself wearing what you wear.

Like this skirt for instance. I was poised and ready to email you today about a skirt almost exactly like this (mine is solid black) for inspiration.. I just couldn't find anything that I liked to go with it even though I was so in love with the piece. & then here I am, on your blog, looking at a unique, fun, and trendy outfit that isn't just a basic tee with a long flowy skirt. I would have never thought to pair that belt with it, but omg it looks so good! Don't let them get you down at all because you're truly an inspiration to people like me.

& I love that you always show your smile in your pictures too. Keep doing what you're doing!

    Lots of love,
    Stephanie

On the other hand, thank you for being practical. Some things that are being blogged about (on other blog sites) are so far out of my pocketbook limits that it is rather impractical to read about. BTW, could you give a general wrap up of what people liked, what people did not like, what people want to see more of or less of from your survey?

Your blog feels real (at least more my world real) and welcoming. I'm so glad you are exactly who you are. That's what makes coming here so great. I'm glad you've gotten so much feedback on this post! I discovered your blog in its early days and I've been reading ever since because I really relate to your style and writing personality. Your look is clean-lined and fresh (give me white pants any day), relatable, often casual and totally you. I'm a busy person living in a small town, and I shop at places like Target. I follow a variety of blogs for different reasons but when it comes to actual inspiration for my own wardrobe, yours tops the list.

I also appreciate how much time you take to write big posts showing all the ways you can style a particular item, or mix and match colors, etc. Your blog isn't just an endless showcase of new pieces.

People write so many things on the internet that they'd never say to someone's face. That's gotta hurt. I hope all these comments far outweigh any negatives! Thanks for continuing to put yourself out there!

I love that you're honest, and open about your struggles to put outfits together some days, because that happens to real people! I think your style is absolutely adorable and best of all attainable for average people. It's awesome that I have some of the same pieces in my closet rather than everything being Prada and 7 for all mankind. Sure, those blogs are fun to read for inspiration once in a while, but yours is great for ideas! As well as down to earth advice. So thank you for blogging exactly the way you do! =)

I guess I am not chic enough but I love, love, love just about every outfit you put together. You are an every day woman. You can "live" in your clothes. You aren't a circus act of megaphones shouting out, "Hey look at my chic style." But you look pulled together, fun and super excellent every time I come to your blog. I have lost 90 pounds in the last 8 months. I have been morbidly obese for 15 years and only worn stretchy pants and clothes my mother (72 years old) handed down to me (46 years old). I am coming out of my coccon now and dipping my toes into the fun fashion pool and you have given me so many wonderful ideas. I was actually afraid, was I dressing too young, was I being too trendy, not trendy enough, what goes good together, etcetera it was overwhelming but you have really helped me come up with a strategy of how to pull together a wardrobe that makes me feel GREAT! So thank you to your "not chic enough" style for all you have done to help me enjoy my hard work and transition from stretchy pants grandma to who I really am, a rockin' mom who can't wait to get dressed in the morning!

Your outfits are always practical and realistic, and I never find them dowdy or boring because you accessorize well and mix colors together in an interesting way. THAT'S what makes your style great – you take pieces that are attainable and remix them in a way that's fun to look at. You're constantly making me think, "Oh, I could definitely pair those together! I shop at Target (we have some of the same pieces actually) and I love that you show me new ways to wear those items. I like that you don't wear high fashion–that's not what most American women wear–and you always look so cute and put together. If I could make one request, I know that you have a more laid back work environment, but mine is pretty formal (lots of suits, skirts, blouses, etc.). I love how you dress because the outfits are affordable, cute, and most of all REALISTIC. So many "fashion" blogs show $300 pairs of shoes that most normal people cannot afford and things that are so trendy, they are not comfortable nor practical to wear to work or running errands, etc. I would bet money those kind of fashion bloggers put on the pieces to take the pictures and immediately change into something else afterwards. Pay them no mind. Keep doing what you're doing. I love seeing how you style pieces.

I'm a little late to this party, but feel it necessary to comment as well. I'm not really *part* of the fashion blogger world, but I follow your blog and a couple others fairly regularly. Your posts ALWAYS put a smile on my face and help me feel confident when I'm lost in my closet/on shopping trips. To echo others, you are both accessible and reasonable – THESE are the things that matter to most of us looking for some realistic inspiration to help boost our confidence and style. In addition, and perhaps most importantly, I value the character that shines through your posts. You seem genuinely invested in your life, your career, and the world around you, and that enthusiasm is so, SO evident when you take the time to write detailed posts. You are wonderful. Please keep sharing!

I have to speak up, too, love your style because it's wearable and god forbid, practical. A lot of fashion bloggers look ridiculous, to be quite honest, they're over-accessorized and trying too hard. Restraint is chic and you know how to dress for your body, your environment, etc. Keep doing what you're doing!!

Don't want to sound creepster here, but I probably look at your blog EVERY morning on my ipad…( random thought…i think of it as my revolving closet totally like in the old silly movie "clueless")….ANYWAY….some of your stuff I straight up COPYEEEE….and some of it, I am looking for inspiration because I just don't get it yet…but I am getting it…

And you know what happens when I leave my house with an Audrey inspired outfit? Compliments…starting with my children and husband…on to my coworkers…and even strangers at the grocery store…

As a matter of FACT….I had a woman at daycare drop off tell me I always look so…ahem…

    PUT TOGETHER ๐Ÿ™‚

What the heck is "chic" anyway? Weirdo's….

Keep doin whatcha do, keep looking put together easy and affordable and lighthearted fun ๐Ÿ™‚

Audrey, when my 13yo daughter and I decided we needed some fashion help and started looking at blogs, we were seriously intimidated. Then we found yours. We studied your tutorials and analyzed your outfits. Yes! Here was something REAL we could learn from! Most bloggers come across as having a need to be admired, while you have a teaching spirit. You are honest and authentic in your posts. And your style translates into the real world.

Both my daughter and I have taken your lessons and tweaked them to fit our stages of life and our body types (a lanky teenager and a hourglass-shaped 40 something.). You've made a difference in our lives. And if that is not success, I don't know what is!

Don't change! I love your blog, my favorite of all the fashion blogs I've ever seen or constantly read. You've helped me update my wardrobe over the past year. I'm a stay at home mom, so most of the other fashion blogs seem unrealistic. And just ignore mean people on the Internet, people think they can say anything when hidden behind a computer.

So I'm two days late to the Audrey-appreciation party, but oh well. I shouldn't assume anything, but I first guess is that you are talking about people on Style Up. I found the site through you, and I think it's a pretty great site, but some of the people on it just seem so rude! I see a lot of people saying things like "I can't look as good as a celebrity, where are the real women", but then they turn around and say, "why do they look so unprofessional?" or "why didn't they iron this?"
When I saw a comment on one of your outfits on there that I didn't think was very nice, all I wanted to do was defend you. But what could I have said, "Don't be so harsh, I read her blog and she's awesome" ? I never really know what to say in those kind of conversations. But then again, that person's comments don't mean much when you have such a loving community of women who read your blog and love what you do/wear/write. So keep on shining, girl. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love your blog. You are my go-to blog. i am not out to be a model or fashionista so I appreciate how you demonstrate how to put together an outfit with the clothes you already own or that are easy to find and still look great. I love your style but also how you show us how to make any outfit our own that fits us which is really what it is all about not meeting someone else's standards! Thanks for putting yourself out there and sharing your insights.

Audrey, I do not walk out of my door every day wanting to look "chic". I want to be comfortable and look put together. Yours is the ONLY blog that I return to regularly because of your common sense approach to fashion. On top of that, you exude a sense of calm and inner-peace that is unlike many others. The beauty of the internet is that there is something out there for every one. I for one, am thankful for you and your approach to fashion. Thank you for sharing your heart and your gift with us.

I think I know which site you are talking about. That is really disappointing. I LOVE your site and I have learned so much and found gochicorgohome as a result. I am sorry that people feel the need to put you down. Clearly they have lost site of what is important in life and lost sight of the what it means to express yourself every day with the clothes you put on your body. We have different bodies, different clothes, and different expressions and there is nothing wrong with that. Take heart–these are just voices in a crowd. Ya know, people will always have opinions. But here's the thing…a blog is a space to write whatever you want! So what if you're not wearing Prada or Gucci every day…that doesn't mean you don't have a personal style that you want to share with the world. If they don't like it, they don't have to follow you. I enjoy your looks…especially this maxi skirt!

I like your โ€žreal lifeโ€ž style and I really love to see repeating clothes from your wardrobe. I cannot afford different fancy clothes every day and would not be realistic for my lifestyle. I learned very much from you about how to use what I have and what are the basics I might need.

Thank you and keep on with the wonderful things you are doing.

As you said, style is personal preference (and lifestyle). There may be people who want to be extra fancy everyday, but for the rest of us, we need you and your blog! I live in California and am a mom, so I need laid-back yet fashionable ideas, and that's what you provide. If I dressed like I was on the runway, people would think I was crazy. Yours is the first fashion blog that I started reading, and I love it! Finally fashion to which I can relate. Cute and non-fussy. Also we are two days apart in age. ๐Ÿ™‚

I found your blog a couple of weeks ago and love it! My sister is into fashion and is always trying to get me interested but I really don't care about super fashion. Anyway, I found your blog and felt like I could really relate (I like your comment about always carrying a sweater – black or brown – that is so me!!). I started reworking my closet and finding great outfits! (Now my sister, feels like she has to dress super cute when she comes to see me.)
Anyway, I just wanted to say keep up the good work; this world is filled with normal people, not models, and I like to see what normal (cutely dressed) people should wear!!

Others just aren't realistic because they are spending way too much money, and the outfits just don't seem "real" to me. I mean, where would i wear some of that stuff? Anyway, keep your chin up, you're the best. And keep shining the light of Jesus, it shows on your blog, and that's a rare thing on the internet these days.

Your blog is the only one that I consistently get inspiration from. Your style is so cute, chic and most of all REAL! I get so many great ideas from your blog that I can actually use with my own wardrobe. I love how you wear things from stores that people on a budget can actually afford. I love how you incorporate trends, but in a classic way that is doable. I love everything about your style, so please don't change a thing!!!

I personally love your blog because things are so wearable! After finding your blog I looked at other bloggers who were posting 30 x 30s and they all involved so many pieces that were not affordable or outfits that in my opinion did not look wearable for a modern, young woman. Your blog has given me so much inspiration and confidence to try colorful bottoms (a huge step for me) and to stop filling my closet with junk but versatile pieces instead. You are smart, beautiful and economical. Something I think most women aspire to be! Even though I'm the 296th person to say it, keep doing what you're doing! We love you <3

I LOVE your outfits, with a capital L. Many blogs are too trendy, or you have to buy 34786 different pieces, or they are too showy (for me), so I just don't read them. To each their own, but no need for them to bash your style from being different from their own. Please know you have a loyal following that you inspire and that are so glad you take the time to post! ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, I'm not sure I can say anything that is unique from what the other 299 commenters write, but I wanted you to know that you are absolutely one of my favorite bloggers. You're down to earth, personable, genuinely caring about your readers…and that doesn't even touch on your style. Your style is accessible and although it's simple, that's exactly what I love about it. I don't do a whole lot of pattern mixing or wearing trendy things, and I appreciate that you show how the average woman dresses for a normal day. That's exactly what I love about blogs like yours! Keep it up, my dear, I love you and always have your back!

I know I'm late to this conversation, but I wanted to chime in because the same thing happened to me, so I know exactly how you feel (and I probably know which site you're talking about, too). Here's what I realized: the whole point of a personal style blog is that it's about your *personal* style. It's not about dressing to impress other people.

And the readers who find you and follow you are the women who like *your* particular style and want to dress that way, too. Anyone who wants to dress a different way can choose from among the hundreds, even thousands, of other personal style blogs out there with wildly varying styles.

Keep on being you. Your aesthetic is cute, classic, affordable and accessible.

Hey Audrey, I'm way late to this post, but I wanted to chime in as well. I love the guts out of your blog. My wardrobe (pre discovery of this blog, that is) was jeans, tee, flats, rinse and repeat. Every day. After reading your blog, and taking a serious look at my junior high esque wardrobe, I made a list of your suggested staples, and started building a grown woman's closet. Like some of the other readers, I straight up copy some of your outfits. I love your clothes and I love your laid back, friendly way writing. I love your style because it is relatable and yet it still slowly nudges me out of my comfort zone. You help me so much, that I am slowly reading through your blog from the beginning. Pleased don't be discouraged by the comments of those who are in a different mindset, and maybe they just don't get what you are doing or how much it helps others!
