5 Outfits With a Grey Cardigan

Outfits With a Grey Cardigan

While I’ve always been into cardigans, over the last year or so I have unconsciously moved from the thinner and more fitted cardigans to these thicker oversized cardigans.  On Instagram I’ve worn both the maroon and grey versions of this cardigan a ton, and I’ve already blogged a remix with the maroon version HERE.  Why not time for a grey cardigan remix?  😀

Usually for remix posts I try to create distinct outfits by not using the same pieces over and varying them instead, or by creating outfits for different activities (dressy, casual, work, etc.)  In case it wasn’t obvious, sometimes that means I haven’t personally worn every outfit if they haven’t worked yet for my lifestyle (usually the dressy or work looks), but I show them as ideas to give you a wider range of how to remix a piece.
ANYWAY, that might have been nonessential info, haha.  It’s just to contrast that to today’s remix, which are all outfits I’ve actually worn!  That’s why they’re all in the casual realm, repeat a lot of other pieces, and aren’t super distinct from each other.  A grey cardigan has been the perfect finish to a lot of my softer color palettes, but it would also work with something bolder like my red plaid shirt (THIS one).
Here are all the outfit details!
1. Blush + Black Jeans
I almost did black booties here, but I liked the mix of neutrals with taupe booties thrown in better!  I’ve been loving blush this year, and I really, really, really love it with grey.

2. Green/Navy Plaid + Mustard Yellow
Gotta love green with mustard yellow.  The grey cardigan is a perfect neutral to complement the two colorful pieces and complete the look.

3. Tunic + Leggings + Printed Scarf
I already talked about how awesome these leggings are HERE, and I was finally in cold enough weather to wear a huge blanket scarf when we visited Northern California during Thanksgiving week.  I still love this outfit so much!

4. Neutrals + Pop of Mustard
I’m pretty in love with this simple look full of basics.  I love all these neutrals mixed together, but to me, the addition of the mustard scarf makes the whole outfit!
Shop for the Look:
Top: H&M (similar, similar)

5. Olive + White
Olive is another pseudo-neutral, like blush, that helps make a softer palette with the grey cardigan.

Jeans: LOFT (similar)
Boots: Target (similarsimilar)

Overall, I’ve done a lot of neutral looks, but that’s because I’ve been pretty into neutrals lately.  Perhaps I’ll need to do an updated grey cardigan remix to show some outfits with more color, but for now hopefully this gives you some ideas for how to use your grey cardigan!

What about with a skirt? What shape of skirt might work best? I have a very similar cardigan in dark gray and although I have a few pants I like it with, I’m not sure how to put it with a skirt for a similar look 🙂

Hi Diana! I haven’t tried it with a skirt yet, but my guess is it’d look best with a fitted skirt, like a pencil skirt. Belting the skirt at the waist (whether under or over the cardigan) would probably be helpful also. It’d probably also depend on your shape. An a-line skirt could work depending on how it all works together with your hips.

Hi Audrey, I have a similar cardi but in darker grey. Can I style it the same ways as your light grey cardi. Thanks. Angie.

Probably yeah! No harm in trying the outfits with a darker cardigan and adjusting whatever doesn’t seem to work, right? 🙂

That’s a great cardi! I have a similar one and miss it a little, haha! Wore it a lot over winter, don’t know how I coped without it before! Will you be doing the style challenge at other times of year? My weather is the opposite now but spring/autumn would be similar.

Hope you are having a wonderful week 🙂

I’m not sure about style challenges during other times of the year. Depends on if there’s a demand for it, but I hope so! You should be able to purchase the challenges when they’re not “live” at a discounted rate too, so if you wanted to go through all the outfits on your own when our seasons are opposite, that’s another option!

This was perfect timing because you posted this the same day my back ordered similar cardigan arrived. Which then turned out to be too big but now I want one even more! I’ll have to keep looking!

I absolutely love this gray cardigan. I have one that’s 4 years old and it’s getting too worn out to wear. I finally went to buy one of the lush roll tap tops and the gray cardigan and of course they are out of stock! There isn’t much similar in a large right now. It’s possible I could size down, but wanted to start there.

Do you have good luck in the retail store? I can’t remember the last time I’ve been to Nordstrom, but always like the stuff you post.

Hi Lauren! I mostly shop online with Nordstrom because I find it easier to navigate the site than in-store, and the stock is better online like you experienced. I do go into the store once in a while because there are many products I would not have bought if I hadn’t felt them in store first. They look so different online sometimes, or you can’t tell something is super stretchy and thick fabric from online like you can in store.
