5 Early Fall Outfits for Work

5 Early Fall Outfits for Work

Huge thanks to Nordstrom and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post

With summer winding down and shifting into fall, I’m sloooowly getting back into the groove. Whether you’ve been in a groove this whole time or whether you’re trying to get back into one like I am, I wanted to offer some outfit inspiration to help you look forward to heading into work! I have some more VERY comfortable early fall work outfits that I can’t wait to share with you, and today I’m partnering with Nordstrom and ShopStyle to do it!

You know I’m HUGE on clothes feeling comfortable, including work clothes! And, you know Nordstrom is my favorite place to get amazing-feeling, comfortable clothes—for all lifestyles, not just the lounging stuff. Nordstrom has jeans, work clothes, jackets, sweaters, tops, and more that feel FANTASTIC.

In addition to having great clothes, I love shopping at Nordstrom because they have great customer service with free shipping and free return shipping on all orders. And, you can utilize Nordstrom’s in-store or curbside pickup if you don’t want to wait for shipping. LOVE IT! You also earn points on purchases as a Nordy Club member, which is totally free to join. Plus, you get other benefits like free basic alterations and more. Check out the Nordy Club HERE!

Now for the good stuff—comfy outfits for work!

SIZING: I’m 5’6” and usually S/M or 6 in clothes and 8.5 to 9 in shoes.

Outfit #1: Navy Slacks + Printed Top + Flats
This outfit is pretty straightforward in terms of the formula: slacks plus a top. However, the types of pieces you use make all the difference!

These pants are SOOOOOO comfy! They are the Liverpool Kelsey pants, which I’ve talked about before, and they are still as awesome as ever. They are very smooth, very soft, thick, and very, very STRETCHY. Just all around SO DANG COMFY. Like, they feel like yoga pants type of comfy!đŸ€© The waistband also has plenty of stretch and give. This navy pair is HERE, and they also come in black. See them in other colors HERE. And plus sizes HERE and HERE. I wear them in size 4, as they run large.

Pants like these are wardrobe basics, so they can be paired with a lot of things! Here, I went with this pretty printed top which is full of fall colors. I showed this top in a different print back in the spring (along with 4 ways to wear it), and you all liked it so much that I thought you’d enjoy it in the new colors and prints for this season, too! This has cap sleeves and slims down through the torso, so just be mindful of that when you’re thinking of fit and how it’d work on your body shape. It’s currently available in 6 solid colors and 7 prints! Check them out in straight sizes HERE and plus sizes HERE. I wear size M.

Also, this initial pendant necklace is back in stock, and I’ve still been wearing it a ton over the last month. Adding a small necklace like this can make a HUGE different in an outfit. Don’t underestimate it! Check it out HERE.

Outfit #2: Olive Chinos + White Top + Denim Jacket + Flats
Here’s an outfit for a more relaxed work setting, with chinos, a white top, and a denim jacket. If you can’t wear a denim jacket to work, simply swap it out for a cardigan.

I’ve mentioned these chinos before and need to highlight them again because they are SUCH a great comfy option for work! Soft and stretchy, plus a stretchy waistband with the elastic strip sewn in. đŸ™ŒđŸœ (It’s very hard to live without a stretchy waistband. Once you’ve experienced it, you can’t go back. 😆) They come in 9 colors, which you can see HERE. I wear these in size 4. You can also check out the other ways I’ve styled these pants, including dressing them up and down, in my blog post Three Olive Pants Outfits—Dressed Up and Down for Work and Casual Style.

This top is also notable in the comfort department. It’s another one of my favorites, the Vince Camuto Rumpled Satin Blouse which feels soft and satiny and sooooo good against your skin! It also drapes pretty well, allowing you to do a front-tuck pretty easily. And, it’s very lightweight and flowy, making it a great option for warmer weather that still might be lingering this time of year. Last, the white version is not see through at all! It’s available in black and white HERE and 9 other colors HERE. I wear size S.

Outfit #3: Navy Pants + Striped Top + Cardigan + Flats
Next, as the weather cools, wear the navy pants from Outfit #1 and layer it with a long sleeve top and cardigan.

This tee is soooooo soft and stretchy! Note that it is meant to be fitted, so it won’t give you that relaxed drape. Instead, it tucks into pants and skirts nicely and shows off your shape. Find it HERE. I wear size M.

If you want a long sleeve striped tee that is a little looser, try the Caslon one, HERE. But also keep in mind that it is slightly thinner and made of a more casual material. I wear that one in size M.

I threw on the thick Caslon cardigan that I got during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I originally said it was a tad itchy but hoped it would soften up over time. I’m happy to say that after just a couple of wears, I haven’t found it itchy at all! (And yes, that’s with short sleeves, so I’m feeing it on my bare arms.) I love how this one is a bit thicker and holds a tad more structure (as opposed to others that feel flimsy, which can cling to bumps more easily). This comes in 6 colors, which you can see HERE. I wear size XS, and it’s still quite roomy, so make sure to size down.

Outfit #4: Jeans + Striped Top + Cardigan + Flats
If you work in a really relaxed environment where jeans are appropriate, then swap out the navy pants from Outfit #3 for jeans instead!

These straight leg jeans are another one of my Nordstrom Anniversary finds, but I would absolutely have paid full price for them. They are stretchy and comfortable with the stretchy waistband, and the lighter to medium wash really updates your look for this current season. LOVE the wash!

NOTE: Some reviewers gave it poor marks for having a funny smell. My pair doesn’t smell, but I wanted to give you a heads up that other pairs might!

Also, I’m digging these tan flats! They’re quite comfy with a flexible upper and a tiny bit of cushion in the footbed. They are soooo versatile. As you can see, I’m wearing them in every single outfit in this post! 😊 They also come in a beautiful rust orange and fun muted blue suede. Check them out HERE. I wear size 9.

Outfit #5: Olive Chinos + Sweater + Flats
Last, pair the stretchy olive chinos with a comfy, cozy-as-heck sweater as the weather cools!

I told you last month during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that this sweater was one of my favorite purchases. It is SOOOOO soft and SO cozy, and it’s lightweight while still feeling kind of thick and warm. Just all around good! You can also do a front tuck with it, and since the material is so soft, it doesn’t stick out super awkwardly from the side like other thicker sweaters tent to do. This comes in several colors, HERE. I wear size S.

Finally, if you don’t have a good work tote yet, check out THIS one! It feels sturdy and strong, especially given its price. It has some structure, which keeps work looks polished and professional, but not so much structure that it looks stiff and stuffy. Like, you could wear this with casual outfits for sure, too. Find it HERE in tan and HERE in black.
