Ahhhhh white jeans. They make outfits look SO fresh! I know many women are hesitant to wear them, and for good reason. In case I can alleviate some worry or troubleshoot some common problems with white jeans and knock down a few barriers, I want to talk about how to wear them as well as show 16 outfits with white jeans because I love them sooooo much! 😀
Last spring I wrote almost this same post, but with 15 totally different outfits with white jeans. (That post has 16 outfits, but I repeated one of the outfits in today’s post.) If you combine today’s 16 outfits plus last year’s 15, that’s 31 outfits with white jeans! Check out last year’s post HERE!
Because I’ve used white jeans in two PMT Challenges now, I’ve watched nearly a thousand women search for white jeans and have heard the gamut of concerns about them. Not all of them have solutions, and in some cases/climates/weather/situations white jeans just will not be practical. BUT, at the same time, white jeans don’t need to be as scary or as troublesome as they may initially seem!
WHITE JEANS THAT AREN’T SEE-THROUGH
& MY FAVORITE PAIRS
Like I said, I’ve seen nearly a thousand women on the hunt for white jeans. Common problems women run into are:
- the jeans are see-through
- even if they’re not see through they are not flattering
- they don’t have real pockets
- if they have pockets, you can see the outline of the pockets through the jeans because the jeans are see through
- if they are skinny jeans, they show lumps and bumps in an unflattering way, more than other colored jeans
FAVORITE PAIR #1: LOFT
I can address the first four problems above with my favorite pairs of white jeans!
First is the Modern Skinny or Curvy Skinny from LOFT, found HERE. These are MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE pair of white jeans. Mine are a couple of years old, so I’m not 100% positive if the current pair available is exactly the same. I’ll speak for the couple-year-old-pair I own though.
PROS:
- material is super soft and stretchy!!!
- not see-through (but I still wear underwear that matches my skin tone with them just in case!)
- real pockets that aren’t see through
- material is on the thicker side, so I find them flattering and don’t run into the lumps and bumps problem (of course jeans will fit everyone differently though)
- ankle are skinny enough for me to work with booties
CONS:
- the material is so soft that it absorbs stains more easily than some other pairs might (read about the Old Navy pair below to see what I’m talking about)
Of course, I know one pair of jeans will not universally work for every woman, but MANY women have tried multiple pairs of white jeans and FINALLY tried these and fell in love. So, they’re worth a shot!! They come in regular, petite, and tall sizing HERE.
I wear size 28P. I’m 5’6″ and usually size 6/8 in jeans, but I got Petite to hit my ankles. Measurements of the inseams are on the LOFT’s site, so use that to see which length to get.
I wear the Modern Skinny cut, but there is a Curvy Skinny version for those with curvier hips and rears and smaller waists.
FAVORITE PAIR #2: OLD NAVY
If you’ve been reading PMT for a while you know that I wear a lot of Old Navy Mid-Rise Rockstar jeans in a variety of colors. (Those, and Wit & Wisdoms are my primary pairs of jeans.) Old Navy has several white jeans: mid-rise, high-rise, and a special “Sculpt” line that is stiffer with more structure to help “sculpt” your legs more. See them all HERE.
When compared to the LOFT jeans above, Old Navy covers all the not-see-through + pockets problems. On me, they also fit relatively similarly with skinny ankles.
The major differences between LOFT and Old Navy jeans are:
- LOFT jeans are softer
- Old Navy has a “Clean Slate” technology in them that supposedly helps them resist stains more. I haven’t fully tested them because I’m scared to, but overall I do find they aren’t as prone to absorbing dirt marks as the LOFT pair is.
I own both LOFT and Old Navy jeans. When I’m going to be more active yet want to wear white jeans, I’ll wear my Old Navy pair because they have the “Clean Slate” thing going for them. Otherwise, the LOFT pair is still my favorite for comfort!
I wear size 6 in white (but I wear size 4 in most other Old Navy Mid-Rise Rockstars). PLEASEEEEEE please do the 3-Hour Stretch Test with these jeans! The stretching/sagging/sizing varies between colors. Find the pair I own HERE.
ALTERNATIVE OPTION: BOYFRIEND, STRAIGHT LEGGED, OR BOOTCUT JEANS!
If skinny jeans are frustrating you, try a boyfriend cut instead of skinny jeans to remedy the lumps and bumps problem! Some women in the PMT Challenges had the idea of getting white jeans that are a boyfriend cut, straight legged, or bootcut instead of skinny jeans, and I thought this was genius. Your jeans do not have to be skinny jeans! That’s just what I wear, but white boyfriend jeans are fantastic for spring as well! They will be a looser fit and should make it easier to find a pair that you don’t feel self-conscious in. Old Navy has white boyfriend jeans with the Clean Slate technology HERE!
WHEN WEARING WHITE JEANS
Here are some other things to try to make white jeans work for you–including talking about stains, more issues with fit/lumps/bumps, and further remedies for see-through jeans.
- Use Scotchgard for an extra layer of stain protectant. It’s very easy to apply, and while it may not completely shield you from stains, it should at least help stains not set so that they wash out more easily.
- Carry a Tide To-Go Pen to get out small stains immediately.
- Wear a napkin on your lap when you eat!
- Wear skin-toned (nude colored) underwear to minimize the see-through problems. Even if your white jeans are pretty opaque, I wouldn’t wear brightly colored or patterned underwear just to be on the safe side. You never know what bright sunlight can reveal! Also, I tend not to wear white undergarments (bras, camisoles, or underwear) because, at least on my skin, I find they are more visible through white garments than undergarments that are closer to my skin tone.
White jeans don’t have to be terrifying. There *are* pairs that exist that are thick as well as comfy, like my LOFT pair! And some are more stain-resistant than others, like the Old Navy Clean Slate line! Lastly, if fit or finding a flattering pair has been a headache, go for a different cut that’s NOT skinny jeans!
