One of the most important things for me in learning to "work my closet" has been to learn how to wear the pieces in my closet in many different ways. Figuring out how to do that helps me get more use out of my closet without having to buy more clothes. Before style blogging, I tended to wear an item of clothing only one or two ways, so being able to imagine a piece being worn four, five, or even ten different ways was mind-blowing--and fun!
In hopes to help you find more versatility in your closets, here are some posts that feature one item worn multiple ways. Good luck discovering the hidden treasures in your own closet!

Tonight is the first time I've come across your blog, and I LOVE it! It's seriously SO helpful. One of the problems I have is that I don't know how to choose colors for "pop"... I normally grab things that are neutral like black or grey. How do you know what colors to pick? (Ex: cardigan, scarf, belt?)
ReplyDeleteHi Kara! I've been asked that question a lot lately, so I think I need to write a post on it! For now I can say it's easy if there's a print in your shirt--just pull out any of the colors from the print and use it in your either cardigan/scarf/shoes/belt, etc! Otherwise, I tend to do colors that are opposites or are further from each other on the color wheel (http://pinterest.com/pin/23151385554048374/) to make something pop.
DeleteFirst time reader here and I love this blog!!!

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI really love your ideas. On wearing belts, what width should you get if you are a little "thick" in the waist?
Thanks!
Hi! Here's a post about that: http://www.puttingmetogether.com/2012/05/guest-post-belting-your-curves.html
DeleteCan I just say how much I love your blog? I keep finding new ways to wear my clothes! I see a piece and think "I'll check her blog for ideas." Thank you for posting all of this and being awesome!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! I'm a tshirt and jeans girl and I've been stuck in that kind of outfit for ages. Living in a tropical country doesn't really encourage layering and I don't know if I can pool off wearing a skirt or dress. Reading your blog has given me ideas on how I can embrace my curves and be aware of clothing pieces that could work. I'm still wary about using belt though but I'll get there. LoL.
ReplyDeleteHi! I just found your blog through Pinterest! I have been going through it for hours...You have so many great ideas! I'm originally from Florida so I'm used to shorts and a t-shirt...several years ago I moved to Pennsylvania but I recently got married and now live in Monterey, CA. The fashion / seasons / weather is totally different in all of those areas. Your blog is helping me put together outfits I can wear in Monterey (since the climate is so temperate but a little on the colder side for a Floridan). I just wanted to say thank you for the help and inspiration. Keep it coming!! :)
ReplyDeleteI found your blog in a post on Money Saving Mom and am soooo glad. I'm always trying to save more money, but lately have been wanting to spice up my wardrobe w/out buying a new one. I went through my closet after only reading 2 of your posts and found some great things that I can start pairing together. I think I will start taking pics for my outfit options to keep it going:) You are a blessing through this blog. Thank you! I look forward to upcoming posts:)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear you were able to come up with a couple new outfits already! If you wanna take pics of your outfits, one really cool site to do that with is Go Chic or Go Home (http://gochicorgohome.com/pub/welcome-putting-me-together-readers). Helps you virtually remix your closet, load outfit posts, and keep track of outfit ideas that you can save for later!
DeleteHi! i was wondering if you could do a post about a black blazer in all different ways! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Audrey, I found your blog through pinterest and I am so happy I did! I love your blog! I'm from Kingston Jamaica and the tips you have here will be a big help for me to maximize my style. Thanks! Blessings
ReplyDeleteAwesome site! I have a pretty ivory chiffon skirt with ruffles/pleats on the waistband. It's the strangest thing. It also comes with a braided brown belt, so I know brown boots would be cute, but I have not clue what top to wear! :(
ReplyDeleteI found you through Pinterest and I am sooo loving your blog! I have always been a mix and match shopper, but more ideas is never a bad thing! I'm in my 30's and have been dreaming about creating a new look that captures where I'm at in my life. Your blog is really giving me some great inspiration and ideas on what kind of looks fit me. Keep up the good work!
