4 Colored Pants to Mix Up Your Fall and Winter Wardrobes

In the Building a Remixable Wardrobe Series I wrote a post on The Importance of Colored Bottoms.  When I was trying to build a remixable wardrobe and studied others who were great at it, it was a huge epiphany that they all embraced colored jeans or pants beyond regular blue jeans.  I'd never even considered it--not even black jeans, which is not a huge departure from regular blue jeans and is not any sort of "crazy" color by any means.  But, any jeans besides blue jeans weren't on my radar at all!

Since realizing how much colored bottoms could mix up your wardrobe I've worn many different colored jeans over the years.  Many of them have phased out of my closet as the colored jean trend died down from a few years back.  However, there are a few colors that have stayed in regular rotation post the colored jean trend, and at this point I consider them staples in my closet.  Today I'm showing you the colored jeans I regularly wear in the fall and winter months.

As a note, some of these are technically neutrals, so by "colored" I just mean anything besides regular blue jeans.

My main colors are black, grey, maroon and olive .  Sometimes I wear white jeans in the fall/winter, and have no reservations about whether we're "allowed" to wear light jeans in cooler months.  However, I didn't include them here because of a very practical reservation.  When it gets rainy and the ground gets muddy I've had mud splash up on my white jeans.  So once rainy season hits, my white jeans I stray away from them.

There are two resources listed below:
1) All the outfits I've shown with each pair of jeans are linked in the descriptions below.
2) Current options to buy jeans in each color are also listed from various price points.

1.  Black Jeans
These are probably my most worn jeans this time of year besides blue jeans.  They go really well with darker colors I tend to wear in the fall, but they also help to darken really bright colors and make them feel more appropriate for the season.

My favorite pair is extremely expensive (Option 3 below), even being currently on sale.  But they are incredibly soft, stretchy, and feel like jeggings though they're not.  They also never lose their stretch.

2. Grey Jeans
I love these year round, especially with white and cognac.  I'll never tire of grey jeans with cognac riding boots!  There are some fantastic options below, and the highest priced ones are still under $70.  I *think* the pair I'm wearing above is Option 5 below, found HERE.

3. Maroon Jeans
The pair above is a little more purple than red, which has its ups and downs.  I used to wear these jeans a ton, but sadly after giving birth they juuuuust don't fit me quite the same.  Luckily I got a new pair during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale as seen in the collage at the beginning of this post.  They are a little more red, so it'll be interesting to see which of my old combos with the more purple pair don't work anymore, and what new combos work better with a more red pair.  Just stuff to consider as you search for a pair for yourself.  Below are options that are both more purple or more red.

4. Olive Jeans
This pair surprised me, but they are incredibly versatile!  Stacy and Clinton from What Not to Wear consider olive a pseudo-neutral and claiming that it goes with nearly anything.  They are totally right.  There are very, very few things olive doesn't pair well with, and this color brings a totally new dimension to your outfits and fall wardrobe.

Do you have these or any other colors in your closet for fall?  If not, which would you try first?
