3 Outfits With a Floppy Hat

Okay you guys, I'm gonna call this a huge success.  I've found not one, but TWO more hats that actually look decent on me.

I've envied people who can wear any kind of hat.  For a long time I've loved how much hats can determine the feel of an outfit, but my large head hasn't been accommodating, particularly for floppy hats and fedoras.  Whomp whomp.  When Nordstrom recently asked if I'd be down to feature some hats, I was honestly pretty tempted to say no.  But then I thought about how, by some miracle, I was able to find ONE hat about 1.5 years ago that actually worked (HERE) and that maybe not all hope was lost.  More importantly, I then thought back to the post I'd written called, "When You Think You Can't Wear Something, Try, Try Again" and thought that maybe I should apply that encouragement to hats.

Well, because Nordstrom has about a gazillion hats to choose from, I now have a new hat to play with!  I found it both helpful and daunting that there were so many hats, but because of my "When You Think You Can't Wear Something..." post I was determined that I'd find something.  I searched through all of the hats (HERE), and for the ones that caught my eye I checked the circumference for each hat straight from the site to make sure they'd fit my big ole head.  I ordered 8 hats which felt crazy but was easier than going in store because shipping is free both ways with Nordstrom.  While I have yet to find a fedora that I like on me, I found the black floppy hat that's featured today and a grey floppy hat (HERE--and is 40% off) that I like even better!

Both of the hats I ended up with seem like they'll last a while.  I've felt hats from other stores that were cheaper but you could definitely feel it.  However, both of these Nordstrom hats have a bit of structure yet are flexible, being floppy but not flimsy.  Addie has already given the black hat a good beating, but it's bounced back perfectly without any creasing so far.  (Whew!)

And now, three looks with a floppy hat!

When I think floppy hats, boho immediately comes to mind.  I showed this outfit yesterday, but it was actually the hat that inspired me to change up my new favorite top.  I knew I wanted to pair the top with my maroon cardigan, so I kept everything else black to streamline the look with the hat.

Note: I forgot to mention in the last post about this top--it shrank in the wash, and while it stretched back out afterwards, overall it shrank like maybe 1/2".  If you are between sizes or have a longer torso, go for the bigger one and try to shrink it.  My apologies for forgetting to add that crucial piece of info!

The hat was nice on the day I wore Outfit #1 because it was raining and the hat protected my hair somewhat.  However, hats are not so helpful when it's windy, like it was while we took pics for Outfit #2!  Maybe a baseball hat would be helpful, but definitely not a wide brimmed floppy hat.  All it does is catch the wind!

I've shown this tunic and the white version with skinny jeans before (HERE), but I finished both of those looks off leopard pumps.  This time, black booties and the floppy hat create less of an office-worthy vibe and more of a cute look for lunch with friends.

Lastly, I stayed with the black denim and threw the hat on top of one of my go-to bases, jeans and a striped tee.  I love how the hat provides a little twist to an otherwise standard go-to formula.

This black hat is also available in camel (HERE) and mauve (HERE).  The brim is 4" wide, but the grey one I got is about 1/2" shorter albeit the site saying they're both 4".  Both have a small ribbon around the crown which give the hats a little more dimension and finish.
