The Extras

First off, THANK YOU for the kind words in response to the news about my dad.  My family and I have gotten to spend good time together looking through old pictures of our dad as we prepare for his memorial service.  Thank you again for your support during this time.

My dad and mom live 500 miles from me, and I decided only a couple of hours prior to leaving that I would drive the 500 miles with my brother, departing at 9pm.  As nuts as that felt, I am SO glad I did it because it allowed me to see my dad for the last day that he was coherent and responsive.  (Then for nearly two days after that, his body very slowly faded until he passed.)

Anyway, I've been living out of a suitcase for the last week and will continue to for a little longer.  A suitcase that I only had an hour to pack with none of my usual planning.  That's definitely one way to stress me out!  Even though I was able to use a summer packing capsule that I had started (but hadn't quite finished) I way overpacked.  Little time to pack and lack of planning will do that to me.  Plus, I didn't know how long I'd be gone because we didn't know if my dad would pass away on this trip or not.  At least it all still fit into a carry-on!

All that said, none of these items are in my summer packing capsule and they were some of the "extras."  The only reason I brought leopard pumps was to go with my black dress in case my dad passed away.  And this was my brand new tee from H&M that I couldn't wait to wear because even though it looks basic, I love this color!  And it drapes so nicely and is so comfy!  Anyway, turns out when you work on building a mix and match wardrobe you can grab random pieces and be confident they'll work with something else you've got--even if you didn't plan well.

I couldn't find this top online, but I think it's HERE in 8 other colors (and only $9.95).  THIS is another similar H&M one but slightly different cut.  And THIS beautiful one from Nordstrom is on sale (2 for $60) and one of those "dressy tees" I talk about that's not cotton so it can be dressed up or down.
