Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale Shopping Reviews

Last Friday I headed to the mall to make some returns and then swooped by Nordstrom to check out the sale pieces in person.  It wasn't buzzing as crazily as I thought it would be, especially compared to the hype the internet makes it to be.  It almost looked like a normal Friday afternoon in terms of traffic.  Not many items were in stores either, which could also explain why there weren't as many people there.

Anyway, I tried on just 3 things, then resolved that shopping online was much, much better.  Especially with free shipping!

Maxi dress.  Last week I showed a maxi dress that came in 4 great solid colors (see HERE), plus several different prints: striped version, blue multi print, and the colorful one I'm wearing above.  I wanted to try them in person.  It's pretty much what you'd expect from the product pictures.  Super soft rayon dress with an elastic waist.  I'm 5'6" and it's rather long on me with a few extra inches with flat sandals.  It's a really easy, great, go-to piece for spring and summer and there are some fun prints.  Ultimately I talked myself out of getting another maxi dress even though I really, really like that blue printed one!

I'm wearing it in Medium above, though Small might have fit better.

Cardigan(s).  I've had a coral cardigan on my wish list for a long time.  I saw the one above online and was glad I could try it in store.  It has mixed reviews online, but it seems that the people who gave it mediocre reviews were comparing it to an old BP cardigan that Nordstrom used to carry.

I can't speak to the old BP cardigans this was compared to, but this one is on the thinner side, which I don't mind.  I'd ear it mostly for spring and summer anyway, and I live in a climate that's mild year round.  At its half-yearly sale price it compares to H&M, Target, and Old Navy cardigans, in both price and quality, which is fine by me!

The color above was too bright for me, so I was REALLY glad that I found the softer coral version online HERE.  It looks exactly like the color I want, so it's currently in my cart.

This cardigan comes in 11 colors total.  Nine of them are HERE, and the other two are HERE.  I'm wearing Large above.  (I'm normally size 6 on top for reference.)

Crochet skirt.  I hadn't seen this online but swooped it up on the way to the dressing room.  It's a stretchy crochet skirt with a pretty scalloped hem.  I thought it fit pretty well, especially considering pencil skirts usually accentuate the wrong places for me by tapering too much at the knees and therefore widening my hips.  This one balanced out my hips pretty well.

Even though you can see the cardigan peeking through where it's tucked into the skirt, I couldn't see nude underwear through the skirt, at least not in the dressing room light.  It's fully lined.

I'm wearing this in Large, as it's junior's sizing.  I was close to getting this, and even though I thought of several ways to wear it I didn't feel like any of them fit my style.  I'd personally would opt for a lace/crochet skirt that is a little simpler, but I think this one is really pretty and would be great for SOMEONE!

Woven pocket tee.  I didn't see this in store, but it's in my shopping cart.  I love simple, solid colored tees that aren't t-shirt material.  They can be a little more dressed up without having to do anymore work than if you just wore a cotton tee.  And they can still be dressed down.

Some examples are my cobalt blouse, white blouse, and green blouse.

After getting rid of a lot of clothes post giving birth I noticed a lack of lighter colored, non-white tops, so I'm trying the pink one above.  Hopefully it works out!

Only a few days left to shop Nordstrom's Half-Yearly Sale.  Anyone else pick up good stuff?

  1. Get the blue printed maxi dress! You wont regret it!! And yes, I would think you could wear it in size small!

  2. Ohh I'm curious to hear what you think about those last tops! I love their simplicity! They're very cute!

  3. I have two of those Lush dresses and I really love them. I'm 5'4" and if I wear with with wedges, it's perfect...too long with flats/sandals :( That one looks FAB on you!!!!

  4. I think those maxis look great, so I'm glad to see one on a "real" person. BUT the pics online of the back look wacky because the prints/stripes don't line up at all on the seam running up the back. Do they look like that in real life? I don't want to spend almost $40 on something that looks shoddy like that...

  5. Haha oh my, wacky indeed! I didn't notice the back in real life, but I can't say I paid much attention either. I was trying it more for fit, with the blue print in mind rather than this one shown. Sorry!

  6. Unfortunately, I live in Oklahoma and we don't have a Nordstrom store, so I'm having to do my shopping online. Thanks for sharing these! I really like the crochet skirt!

  7. Gotta love Nordstrom and their half yearly sales, they generate so much buzz. Cute picks!

  8. I have gottwn half of the items from my sale order! Of the items I've gotten, two were tees from a brand called Stem that were much cheaper looking in person and an AMAZING striped moto cardi from their Caslon brand. I'm absolutely in love with that--got it this morning, packed it on my suitcase for Cali tmrw! I have two pairs of shoes coming tmrw that I'm hoping will work out!

That maxi dress is gorgeous although if it's too long for you, at 5'4 it'll be way too long on me!

I picked up a Lush maxi too and love it! They run a bit big but it is so comfy. I also got a military jacket and a pair of Toms wedges for my teen daughter. She has wanted a pair forever and was so excited! I love the Nordstrom sales! And I love the print of your maxi! Susan

  11. You do look really cute in the maxi, but you should try a size small. Did you find the cardigan fit you best in a large? I could use a lightweight cardigan. I like the woven t-shirts, but I always think rayon items will need ironing, and I don't like having to iron casual clothes. (I'm lazy.) Do you find rayon always needs ironing?

  12. Hi Wendi, thanks for the input on the maxi! I agree with the small. The cardigan fit best in large, especially if I wanted to layer any long sleeve under it. I don't need it fitting skin tight, which a medium would have been. I usually don't need to iron rayon--that's interesting to hear that you do!

  13. Well, it's been a long time since I've bought any woven rayon, so I'm glad to hear I'm wrong about it needing ironing. :-) I think I will get one of those cardigans.

  14. Hi Wendi. Oooooookay, I see what you're saying now about the rayon needing ironing. Usually my rayon dresses don't need ironing for some reason, but the tops? Yeah. Totally getcha!

  15. Yeah, that's what I remembered: that it needs ironing, and it kind of tricky to iron; you keep making new wrinkles if you don't it right. But I do need some tops that are just a step up from knit tees.

  16. If you can wear polyester, I usually go for those instead.
