My 5 Favorite Pieces to Travel In & Travel Outfit

I don't know about you, but I take a ton of trips.  Some are personal, and some are for work, but even for work, more often than not the trips are to a retreat site.  That means I'm usually in casual attire, dressing for an airplane or for mountainy or dirt-filled terrain.

There are a few tried and true pieces I've come to love while traveling, and you're looking at a lot of them rolled up into this outfit.

1.  Striped tee.  I'm a broken record--it's the comfort of your favorite plain lounge-around-the-house tee but provides more visual interest because it has a pattern.  And plus, stripes.  Heart eyes all day.  ALL DAY.  Also, it's one of my most versatile pieces so it can be worn later in other outfits.  THIS ONE looks extremely similar to the one I'm wearing and is under $10!  THIS is also pretty close.

2.  Comfortable jeans.  I usually wear skinny jeans, but since I scored these boyfriend jeans they're the new hotness in my wardrobe.

3.  Catch-all bag.  I usually go neutral and large enough to carry travel essentials, but not so large that it'd be overkill for day-to-day activities during the trip.  I usually take my reversible tote (in black/cognac, but there's a cute cognac/aqua one too!) or the Lily Jade bag in these pics since it doubles as a diaper bag.  You can also wear it as a crossbody or backpack (like I wore HERE) which means I can baby carry on the front and wear the diaper bag on the back to be completely hands free.  The best!

4.  TOMS.  Fact: I hate wearing socks and avoid those little suffocating monsters whenever possible.  Sadly, often on these kinds of trips I need closed toed shoes.  That's where TOMS come in.  If I can get away with it weather-wise I will opt for TOMS over other sneakers every time.

5.  Cargo jacket.  I used to always travel with a cardigan, but lately the cargo jacket has been my perfect completer piece for traveling--especially with a tiny human in tow.  A cargo jacket is lightweight but durable for a certain slobbery fingered, grabby hands cutie pie, and the pockets are key for easy to grab necessities.  See a bunch of options below!

That said, I'll be breathing fresh mountain air for the next few days on another trip.  See ya!

  4. Love this outfit and totally agree - it looks so comfy to fly in. I fly often for work but all my flights are red eyes so I tend to travel in yoga pants lol.

Ps- I just started a new blog. It's called Mildly Moody and its aimed towards female entrepreneurs and career IT girls. Perhaps you can take a look when you get a chance?
    Now following you!

  5. This has been my basic spring (not yet warm enough for shorts) outfit recently. And LOVE having available pockets when traveling, especially flying. So helpful when grabbing boarding pass and ID after security and all.

  6. Too cute! :)

  9. Hi Audrey. My husband saw me looking at this post and commented how your outfit looks like something I would wear. I explained that yours is the blog that has tought me how to dress. He said, wistfully, "I wish there was a blog like that for me." Do you know if there is a men's version of your blog? Thanks!

  10. He should try looking to reddit! /r/malefashionadvice is a great resource for men looking to dress themselves. I'm not a man, but I love browsing that subreddit.

  11. This outfit is so cute and comfy. It looks like something I would wear. I've been looking for a cute cargo jacket. These suggestions are awesome!

  12. I completely agree with this! how do you get on with toms barefoot though? They always look to me as if they would rub, but they don't?

  13. That looks like such a cute and comfortable travel outfit! :) It's the kind of thing I'd happily wear on the weekends :) And I completely agree with you on the stripes - I have so many stripes in my wardrobe!

I think travel is all about comfort - and wearing pieces you know you love and that are tried-and true. Less uncomfortable-ness if something you wanted to try doesn't work out.

  18. Thank you for posting such a "realistic" outfit to wear for travel. It's amazing to me what some people wear when they travel. Not me. I want to be as comfortable as possible whether I'm traveling by car or plane. I want comfortable, comfortable, and more comfortable. Not to mention that your pieces are affordable and accessible. You're awesome!
