Navy, Khaki, and Red for Work

I've decided this is my new work outfit.  It's simple, not terribly boring, but overall decently put together.  (Maybe minus the wrinkles.  Bah.)  And it's comfortable and nursing friendly.  So, bam.  Three birds with one stone!

I always forget that I love navy and tan together.  Like, a whole lot.  You could also do this look with black shoes, which I quickly snapped a pic of and will show a side-by-side of some other day.  However, I'm partial to a pop of color.  Red shoes?  Yes, please!

Lastly, I've been wearing this watch any chance I can get.  When I was a kid I wore a watch so much that I got a crazy, like crazy, strong watch tan.  If I wasn't wearing a watch, you would have thought I had a white watch on.  What can I say?  I tan easily.  Let's not even start with how bad my sock tan was!

Anyway!  I haven't had a watch for a while, but this Daniel Wellington one is perfect.  It's sleek and streamline, but by no means boring.  It's faced with crystals which adds a great feminine detail, though I can never capture that in pics because of the light outside.  (You can see them on the DW site.)  If you're in the market for a watch, you can get 15% off any DW watch with code puttingmetogether until April 30th!

  3. I love these type of posts--you and I are the same size and same height, so they're very informative :)
I actually just bought those exact modern skinny jeans in the regular. They're a smidge too long, but I thought the fit was pretty great, and I usually wear heels anyway.

  4. Audrey, I really think that you need to think about your involvement in the fast fashion epidemic with this blog, especially coming from InterVarsity, who prides itself being relevant in issues of social justice. For your education: a piece by Jon Oliver https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdLf4fihP78 and the book Overdressed by Elizabeth Cline.

  5. Hi. I would have liked to have dialogued with you about this, but no valid email address or name was provided. Please email me or provide some way to contact you if you'd actually like to discuss this.

  7. Nicely done - I might just copy you on this.

  8. I have the opposite problem in that I'm only 5'4" but sometimes I have to buy pants and jeans in tall! My inseam is like 30" because I'm all legs and no torso.

I have bought designer jeans in the past and my first pair of white jeans is from AG Adriano Goldschmeid which is definitely designer. I've also owned Joe's Jeans and my favorite pair of all time was from the now defunct Chip and Pepper designer line. However, I also clearly own non-designer jeans. I think it's just all about finding the style and brand that fits you the best!

  9. It suits you very well, and goes right to the top 3 of your outfits that I prefer :)

  10. I actually enjoy that you buy affordable clothes and wear in realistic manner (no huge heels, tiny skirts or absence of outerwear). I actually copied a couple of your looks, with big success :)

  11. Hi Audrey! I LOVE you blog and the fact that unlike other fashion blogs you buy stuff at affordable clothing stores! However I am not a big fan of the pants you are wearing... The color is not pretty and it "uglyfy" outfits that otherwise would be so cute... I am sorry it is just my opinion...

  12. So ... you're 5'6 and you ordered Petite jeans from LOFT? I'm 5'0 and normally I can get away with their petite jeans, but those would be ridiculously long on me.

These jeans look better than last year's, too. I tried their white ones last summer and they were definitely see through on me. So I opted not to buy. I do appreciate knowing how they fit! Now I know not to bother.

  14. I have read your blog for quite a while but have not commented...but wanted to respond to the comment about you being part of the "fast fashion epidemic".
What I have seen of this, is that fast fashion refers to buying items from affordable clothing stores, only using the items a few times, and then getting rid of them. From what I have seen of you on your blog, this isn't what you do! I have learned a lot from you about re-using my clothes, making them work for more than one outfit, using older tops in a new way to make it continue be in style, etc. I think it's fairly obvious that you wear your clothes for several months or years, which I see as a good thing. Yes you do buy new items as you need them, but we have also seen throughout the blog that you are super careful in choosing what to buy, making sure it's what you want so that you will use it longer!
So thank-you for teaching the rest of us to do the same! I enjoy your style.

  15. Haha, it's okay--I actually love the color of these pants! I guess to each her own, right? :) I'm glad you still love the blog and and am grateful for your kind words about it, even if we have differing tastes sometimes!

  16. I'm really encouraged to hear that, Cheval. Thank you!

  17. Loft's site says the petite inseam on these jeans is 28.5" if that helps you know for certain if they'll work for you or not.

  18. Jeans are a pain.
I have jeans from Zara that are marvellous and also some from NYDJ… can't complaint.

  19. Found out how they fit. For what it's worth -

Quite stretchy, despite only 1% spandex. Size 6 has 30" waist, about 35.5" hip, 20" thigh, and 31" inseam. Very tapered leg. Too much waist, not enough hip, not enough thigh for me. Stretch denim feels yucky to me, and I don't have that elusive thigh gap that is all the rage these days (insert eye roll), so skinnies - especially stretchy ones - look kind of icky on me. I'm sending them back. The denim did seem relatively sturdy for stretch.

  20. yeah! good to know. the .5 extra of length would make them a little long on me. :/ I do appreciate the info though!

  21. You look lovely! Love the pop of red in your flats.

  23. Thank you, that is very kind and encouraging. I'm doing my best and trying to not be wasteful, though I still make shopping mistakes sometimes. I'm trying to learn from them and I know there's still room for me to grow! I really appreciate you taking the time to write and chime in. Thank you again!

  24. I read a tip for keeping black jeans from fading as much as possible to wash them inside out and hang them to dry. See if that helps!

  25. Oooh, I just bought pair of Hudson Nico's. They were recommended for my fitcode. If those fit you well, keep an eye out for Citizen's of Humanity, Mother Denim and J Brand (although I find the pockets on these too small and too high up for my booty)

  26. So, not jean related, but where are your tops from? Thanks!

  27. Ugh, jeans. I don't know if I've ever had a pair of jeans that I've loved. I'm not aware of any designers that make jeans in my size (I'm like a 16 tall, and most designers that I've seen cut off with a 12 or 14 - dumb!), which is a total bummer. [Also, this is a reason we need more bloggers who wear my size, so I can learn about where else I can purchase good quality jeans, haha.] I like the petite cut of jeans on you, by the way - the ankle length is perfect. :D

  28. I like the color of your pants here a lot - I feel like they'd go with so much! They're a bit darker than the standard khaki I typically think of, which I like a lot. I may need to keep my eye out for a similar pair! :) And YES to navy and tan/khaki together - I love that combo.
