My Go-To Cozy Outfit + How to Wear This Top for Spring

This weekend rain was pouring, and I loved it!  We don't get much rain in SoCal, and growing up in an area where it rained more, I miss falling asleep to rain hitting the rooftop.  One of best.sounds.ever.  Holler if you hear me!

I've worn this outfit a handful of times in the last few months because it's so good for cozying up and for nursing.

I've mentioned this top before, but I think this is the first time I'm actually showing me wearing it.  It doesn't seem like anything special, but I really like it for some reason!  I like the structure because it's not too stiff but not flimsy.  It holds its shape well when worn.  And it goes with everything, the same way a chambray top is basically like a pair of jeans for your top half.  However, I feel like an oxford can be more polished or professional than a chambray top.

The shirt runs huge, IMO.  I'm normally S/M at Old Navy, and I got this in XS...AND it shrinks in the wash, so beware.  But even with shrinking, the XS fits.  I could probably have done S and been quite happy though, especially if I wanted a little bit more room or a slightly looser fit.

I plan to wear this with floral skirts, my striped pencil skirt, the floral shorts I just bought, and pretty much any bottom that has a pattern!

Below I showed how I styled it today and one of many ways you could style it for spring.  In today's outfit, it was nice to use the oxford as part of a neutral base to showcase my cardigan.  For spring, I went colors galore since this top neutralizes the outfit.  If you're not going overboard with colors in the spring, you're not really living.  ;)

  1. I'm coveting that sweater. :-) It's freeeeeezing in Colorado right now so the cozier, the better!

I bought a chambray shirt at Old Navy this past fall when I was getting ready for an extended trip with my hubby and wanted some things I could mix and match so I wouldn't be taking a humongous suitcase. I ended up wearing that shirt a lot! I still do. Like your shirt, this one also runs huge. I'm thinking about taking it to a seamstress and getting it nipped in juuuuust a touch.

  7. I love the looks that Old Navy has these days, but I keep running into a problem with their quality. Almost everything I have bought from them the last couple of years have either torn within a matter of a few days or shrunk like crazy. (But I know that's not 100% with all their pieces.) I don't know if you have posted about this in the past, but do you have advice (maybe a future post?) on how to check the quality of the clothing you're buying?

Much like the other comments on Old navy clothing, I love the styles as of late, but the quality can be hit or miss. Did you find this shirt held up okay (minus the shrinking in the wash)? I feel that too many of their oxfords or professional-styled shirts end up being see-through too, so any feedback on that aspect of this shirt is appreciated!

  9. Love both of these looks! If I hadn't just bought ON's fuschia pumps a few months ago, I would be ordering those sandals right now! I have to agree with some of the previous commenter about some of their shirts being too see-through. They have a really cute pink gingham button-up right now, but when I saw it in store, it was really sheer. This one looks like it's better quality though!

  11. I didn't care for oxfords much until this year. I always thought they were too stiff, but I guess it was about finding the right one.

  12. Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that! I don't usually have the tearing problem, but I am very aware of the shrinking problem. Usually I can guess pretty well if it will shrink or not, and I actually assume that most of their items will shrink on first wash. Otherwise, if it feels flimsy I don't even bother trying it on.

  13. I've only worn it 4 times and washed it twice, air drying. But, so far I haven't noticed any red flags about the quality. As far as things being see-through...gosh, I actually never even think about this because I wear cami's under EVERYTHING. I just looked at it for opaqueness, but it's night time and dark-ish in my house right now so it's hard to tell. I don't think it's fully opaque, but I can't say for certain how see-through it is with the current lighting situation.

  14. I LOVE those pumps! I bought those along with the cobalt ones and decided I should only keep one pair. But ughhhh I might regret that, haha.

  18. I've been stalking your site lately and really trying to clean up my closet! I work from home so I usually dress pretty comfy for work, but that being said I feel out of the loop when I do go out (what the heck do I wear?!). THANK YOU for posting cute/affordable styles and remix able ones, I love it. Our house is tiny so I for sure need pieces that work in multiple ways (just never knew how). Anyways all of this to say please keep blogging forever and ever thanks. :)
