Lace Skirt Dressed Up and Down

Did I wear a Forever 21 outfit to a wedding?  Yes, yes I did.  #noshame.

It wasn't until I had to worry about babies and nursing at weddings that I started wearing skirts to weddings, but honestly I think they're more practical additions to a wardrobe than a wedding-appropriate dress.  Often dresses that are suited for weddings are hard to wear casually, whereas skirts can be paired with a lot of different tops to be dressed up or down.

I was so glad I found this lace skirt!  We've been to 4 weddings this year already, and when I saw this skirt right before the 3rd wedding it was sold out.  I didn't think it'd actually come back in stock, but to my delight it totally did and I scooped it up just in time for wedding #4!

I showed it a month ago on Instagram dressed up and dressed down.  I'll be able to wear it with other colors for future weddings too.  So much more bang for your buck than a pretty dress!  (Though I'll admit, I'm still a sucker for a new dress, even if it's less practical.)

This skirt is *almost* sold out again, but Option 2 below is super similar and less ornate which is also easier to dress down.  I was contemplating that one as well, but it was also sold out at the time.  However, it is now fully back in stock!  You lucky ducks.

The skirt I'm wearing is super stretchy.  I'm normally size 6, sometimes 8 on bottom and I'm wearing M.

Side note: Often if I buy something new it usually takes me weeks to post it on the blog and it tends to be sold out by that point.  I've been posting them in a more timely manner on Instagram, so follow along there if you want more current info.  :)

Before I read anything, I looked at the pictures and thought to myself, "I could wear that to a wedding!" I'm currently nursing and wearing separates to dressy occasions has been an adjustment for me... I often wore dresses to church and I've had to adjust my style for sure! I think I'm going to wear a dress for Easter and just feed my son before and after church... First time in a dress in 6 months! :) I need to find a skirt like this for weddings, etc... Good find!

  8. Such a pretty outfit, love the cobalt here too. Posting before something is sold out is tough! I used to wait to wear domething until I could blog it, but threw that out the window last year. When I get something new I want to wear it ASAP ๐Ÿ˜Š

  11. Totally agree--separates are almost always more versatile than a dress. But every now and then, it is fun to buy a new party dress :)
I really like this skirt--I never would have thought to dress down a lace skirt, but it looks so cute with the denim jacket!

  13. That is such a lovely lace pencil skirt! I have a blue lace pencil skirt similar to this, it always gets compliments when I wear it and it's easy to wear more formally or more casually :)

  17. Now you've got me thinking! I have a wedding ( plus the shower, bachelorette party ect) to attend this summer and I'm thinking a swingy pink skirt will be perfect! Maybe even the one you recommended a few posts ago? Thanks for the great advice! As always you are right on point!

  22. Such a beautiful skirt, Audrey! Like I mentioned in your post about how to wear lace, I absolutely love the combination of leather and lace - it's such a great contrast! And you look just stunning in that shade of blue, by the way.
