THE Blanket Scarf

Hope you had a great Christmas weekend!  It was Benson's and my first time staying in San Diego for Christmas in the 13 years we've lived here.  We usually visit our parents in Northern California, but this year my brother became a pastor at our church and had to stay in town for Christmas.  And since we have a new baby it was easiest for our families to come down to us.

I loved being down here!  We got to hang out with family, but during down times we took care of things around the house (the new house we moved into 4 months ago that is still very much in disarray) like installing a system in our closet.  FINALLY.

I wore this outfit to look at Christmas lights in a neighborhood here that has maybe 100 houses lit up for people to walk around.  The last time I wore this scarf was almost a whole year ago!  I asked for it for Christmas but had no idea it was basically a blanket.  Last winter while many of you in the north were freeeeeezing, SoCal pretty much skipped winter so the only time I could wear this was on a work trip to St. Louis.  (Same trip I got to hang out with the hilarious Grace Patton!)

Wellps, turns out these blanket scarves are even more popular this season.  And that means they're everywhere, so there are 6 similar options below.  A few of them are from stores that ship internationally.  I haven't seen these in person, but I *think* options 23, and 4 are the most similar.  I hear option 1 from Target is a little smaller, in case you're not looking for the blankety type.  I also love option 5, and 6 is an infinity scarf.

  7. We chose a Rubbermaid closet kit. I liked the idea of being able to adapt the rods and shelving easily. If we ever want to change the space it'll be really easy to without having to tear down and set up a whole new system!

  11. The Target one really worked for me. It's still big, but its definitely not a blanket. I love the sweater!

  15. This is my new obsession too! I love the idea of a blanket scarf and have yet to pick one up. Love the way you styled it, btw.

  16. I recently ordered a blanket scarf from Amazon that looks identical to yours, and I have been so pleased with how warm and cozy it is. Of course, ever since I received it a few weeks ago we haven't had much truly cold weather so I haven't been able to wear it much, but I imagine we'll get some colder weather soon and I'll get to really break it in.

  17. I am obsessed with the scarf but it's so huge! I'm not sure if I could pull it off but it looks so cute on you. Amazon has a bunch of cheap options but I think they all ship from China with super slow shipping.

  18. And that Target one has been sold out online :(

  19. Oh my gosh, this scarf is EVERYWHERE, haha! And I'm pretty sure I'm the only blogger who doesn't own this scarf or some iteration of it. I really like how you styled and tied yours, though - it doesn't look like it's eating your head/body, like so many times I see it worn, haha. I love the colors but I just can't do the size, I think. I did get a navy/red plaid scarf for Christmas from my in-laws that I love and think will fill the plaid scarf hole in my closet for now :)

  20. I can't believe you only wore it once last year and none this year! I have the Target version and several other Zara blanket scarves and its nice to have big ones and smaller ones. I love this pattern, it matches everything!

  21. Love how you styled your scarf. Can you give us a quick tutorial on how it's done ?

  22. Thanks, Elaine! The scarf tying is pretty simple. Just fold it diagonally into a diamond. Place it on your neck so that the point is hanging centered on your chest. Wrap the ends around your neck underneath the flap on your chest so that the ends meet in the front. I tie them into a knot to keep them in place.

  23. I think any plaid scarf is "cool" right now, not just this particular pattern, so I think your navy/red one will do just fine!
