Leopard and Leather

Black and leopard much?  Exhibit 1exhibit 2, and this post makes three.

This is my first time wearing this dress without a baby bump.  I bought it during pregnancy (see here) because maternity dresses annoyed me (I'll spare you the rant) and hoped that if I didn't stretch it out permanently during pregnancy I could wear it after.  Winner.

Apparently I'm pretty into black this season.  Before blogging I wore black very, VERY often, but redoing my style pushed me away from so much black.  I think it's because prior to blogging the black pieces I'd chosen looked very business professional and I could never really wear them in my casual work settings.  Now that I have a better handle on my style I'm coming full circle back to black, but I think I'm getting a handle on how to do it in a less business-y way.

What color have you been drawn to lately?

  10. Yes, but I think most shoes are comfy without socks so I'm not sure if that's helpful.

  12. I totally get the black thing. I went WAY into browns and oranges for a while and realized two things, orange looks terrible on me and so does brown. So now I'm back to navy and blue and in ways that I actually like.

  13. How much are you loving those slip on sneakers? I'm debating between the ones you have and the Mossimo ones (here), but I'm worried it might just be an impulse purchase. Also, please do share your rant on maternity dresses some time!

  14. I was debating between the ones I got and the ones you linked to also. I like wearing shoes without socks, and those leathery Mossimo ones with bare feet seemed like a bad recipe. I think they look awesome though!

My maternity dress rant is that besides usually being very plain, many of them are empire waist dresses with a "maternity" label slapped on them and don't do anything for a pregnant woman's figure. You're better off buying a non-maternity empire waist dress, especially because you can find those on SALE whereas most empire waist maternity dresses are totally overpriced. However, there are some non-empire waist maternity dresses that have ruching and hug curves which I think are great. But when shopping maternity dresses I was usually like, "How is this any different than a NORMAL dress that I could find on SALE?!"

  16. I...love black. I bet I wear it at least 5 days a week! I avoided it for awhile because I thought it was boring, but then I realized how much fun it is to mix black with other neutrals, colors, fun accessories...and that I could purchase black items of clothing that have something special about them, like a fun detail or texture! I adore this outfit, and if I had any money at all, I'd snatch up those slip ons in a hot minute!!!

  17. Thank you for sharing your rant. I feel like when I cut through the maternity section at Target, I'm flabbergasted by how much the clothes cost, and how some of them don't look much different than things can you find anywhere else. Oh well, at least you don't have to deal with that these days!

  24. Do you have the same problems I do? I have 3 kids and I'm a size 1. I even have to alter my underwear if I want them to look feminine in front of my husband... All the best clothes that fit me come in whatever the teenage trend is. Metallics, glitters, rhinestones, rainbow unicorns. I need so much help!!
